Deaths in videogames can conjure up so many emotions. Sometimes they’re satisfying, other times cringe-worthy. Occasionally, they’re just about enough to have us sobbing like pre-teen girls watching Titanic for the first time (Ooooh, Leeoo!) Nice list, I felt sad when Bigfoot died (I killed him) in Red Dead Redemption

Also, um, without giving too much of a WALKING DEAD SPOILER away, um, "if you've played it you'll know what i'm going on about" - I almost got upset at the end of the game

Im glad Im not the only one that felt horrible about Bigfoot... then a year or so later i decided to restart the game on another profile and i wanted the achievement so i did it again with knowing exactly what i was doing... Im a monster, Broke my own heart a second time.

Ah jeez, I'll always remember Mordin and Thane, and of course Shepard from Mass Effect. They were such awesome and believable characters... can't wait for more of the universe.

And R.I.P Lee, you wonderful son of a bitch. That has to be the most heartwrenching death I've ever seen in any media thus far. I hope Season 2 can one-up that... or not. I'm not sure my heart can take it.

Actually at first I was like..."Where's Aerith?", but then I realized...sometimes it's better to move on.

Great article! On this topic, there is a game that recently came out on iOS called Continue?9876543210 - it's about a fallen game hero who revisits the worlds he used to adventure through to find out about his mistakes from those he came across, trying to work out why he died. It's an interesting experience about video game character death.

Isaac never died in Dead Space 3, and Meryl never officially died in Metal Gear Solid Series, unless you did the non-canon ending in Metal Gear Solid 1, which never counted towards the other sequels.

Isaac's death is still up for debate. Maybe we'll know more when Dead Space 4 comes out. Either way.. You can't argue that it was a brutal way to go if he did indeed "go"

Meryl's death had a hell of an impact, cannon or not.
