Persona 5 Could Be Atlus' Deepest Game Yet

Matt Randisi writes, Liberation. Apathy. Red. Forward.

These are some keywords used by Persona director Katsura Hashino in his last interview to describe what Persona 5 will be all about. We didn’t get very much in terms of details, but there is practically a 4-course feast of reading between the lines. We gamers are pretty good at that, for better or worse. The proverbial gears have been turning quite some time now in the craniums of faithful Persona followers worldwide to make sense of it all. We’ve grown in number quite exponentially over the years, so believe me when I tell you that’s a lot of grinding. So what could these words possibly be spelling out for what has arguably become the most anticipated JRPG of the last few years? The possibilities are just teeming with potential.

Well, of course it will be deep, if you played previous games in the series you'd know too.
This is the biggest reason I still keep my PS3 btw.

ZodTheRipper3715d ago

Man they should have announced this before the PS4 launch, I would have kept mine if I knew this -.-
Now I need to hope for PSNow to play this ...or get a ´cheap PS3 >.<

djplonker3715d ago

You knew about the southpark rpg before the ps4 came out and how its ps3 did that not temp you to keep it?

Baka-akaB3715d ago

Well it was strongly hinted before the reveal that the game would come on at least the ps3 or handhelds rather than on ps4 .

ZodTheRipper3715d ago

@djplonker: South Park comes to PC fortunately, got it preordered already :D

AaronPS3715d ago

Pissed I had to get rid of my PS3. I know I'm an idiot. Hopefully it will come to PS4 or more likely Vita. But yeah Persona games do have a really deep meaning behind them. It's just part of what makes them one of my favourite series of games

Otoshigamisama3714d ago

Chances of it being ported to vita is very likely considering how good P4G turned out to be :)

DigitalRaptor3715d ago (Edited 3715d ago )

If you had to get rid of your PS3 to get a PS4 (bad choice IMO), this will be the game to haunt your dreams. The PS3 is a JRPG monster right about now.

I'm liking the darker tone that harks back to earlier Persona games.

The comparison between Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne in subject matter has me very excited.

DCfan3715d ago

Oh god, this is gonna get ugly. Nocturne is like really scary.

VileAndVicious3715d ago (Edited 3715d ago )

Noturne was epic! I think it is probably ATLUS' best game to date. I like persona too, but the most recent felt so light hearted.

Off topic I really wish ATLUS would put the digital devil saga series on PSN or VITA. Another underrated gem

ManyFishToFry3715d ago

My PS3 will be getting lots of use. Haven't played any Persona games before but I have heard great things.

Hicken3715d ago

Go buy a Vita. Get P4G and P3P. Persona 3 Portable loses a bit of P3:FES by not having The Answer, though. Fortunately, FES (short for festival) is available on PSN. But I'd highly recommend The Golden over standard Persona 4.

Also, you just missed out on a sale that ended Tuesday, where all the Persona games were half off on the PlayStation Store.

ManyFishToFry3715d ago (Edited 3715d ago )

Thanks for the suggestions but I don't have Vita and i'm not much into handheld devices. I hardly ever used my PSP. Is Persona 4: Arena the only game available on the PS3? I also want to get into the Disgaea games.

styferion,

thanks as well.

vergilxx33715d ago

You forgot to mention that this sale was for NA only.
Another reason to buy a vita is that Persona games are one way or another ported to the handheld so Persona 5 probably also see a port one day

styferion3715d ago

you should definitely play it, especially persona 3 and persona 4.
I still listen to both game's soundtracks to this day..

Hicken3715d ago

Looking at the PlayStation Store, Persona 4 Arena, Persona 3: FES, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment are available (and playable) on PS3. But only Arena is a physical retail game.

I understand the not into handheld thing. It took me a long time to get into them, even when I got my PSP back in like 2005 or so. But the Vita is certainly worth it, in my opinion. More than my PSP or even my DS. The good thing is that, outside of the yet-to-be-released Persona 5, you can play some version of EVERY Persona game on the Vita.

Four of the five Disgaea games are also on Vita, and I think Disgaea 4 is also coming soon, as per a recent statement by NIS. Of course, they're all also on the PS3, as well.

DonDon3715d ago

Persona 3 FES is available on ps3 as a ps2 classic on the psn store. In fact, I believe it's on sale for only $5 this week (in North American Store). Get it! It's worth it even at full price and the game is about 150 hours of deep story and great characters.

Sea of stars while seeming pretty good so far doesn't belong in the top rpg discussion. There's way better ones. I'd tell them to play star ocean 2. One of the best non turn based rpgs ever. It has everything.

raWfodog121d ago

And if the list is limited to just turn-based RPGs, I can think of better ones to add to this list. You have the Dragon Quest series, the Trails series…Persona 5 Royale is on the list but why limit it to just that one? P3 and P4 were great as well.

Zenzuu122d ago (Edited 122d ago )

The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, or the Shadow Hearts games has decent enjoyable turn based combat system.

Persona 3 Director Says The Game Saved Atlus From Collapsing

The studio was on the verge of collapse when Persona 3 came out, and things were looking quite grim for Atlus. Regardless, many decisions made in the game paid off and became a staggering success.

SDuck230d ago

Years ago, I was emulating the game on my laptop and the old thing died when I was about to get to the final boss. I'm more than happy to buy this remake when it comes out so I can finish it!

TheColbertinator230d ago (Edited 230d ago )

At the time I was immersed in SMT Nocturne and later DDS. I did not realize at all how important Persona would become for me years later.

raWfodog230d ago

Persona 3 FES was the first one that I played in the series. Looking forward to the remake.
