Evolve Xbox One gameplay video - Left 4 Dead meets Predator

Edwin from Official Xbox Magazine has played Evolve, the new co-op shooter from Turtle Rock for Xbox One, and he is excited about it. Here's why.

I never heard of this game or at least never paid attention to it but damn that looks fun. I just went from oblivious to interested in one video.

I really wasn't interested in many other multiplatorm titles, glad there's another good looking game coming to both consoles.

It definitely capture that "next gen intensity". The lush of the plantation, rustling in the bushes and trees.

Spotting the monster at random. L4D seem to do similar things but seems like on next gen its more real time and random than L4D.

Looks like L4D without pouncing/grabbing, which I'm not sure how to feel about (because pouncing/grabbing was an effective method of balancing the game).

Well, anyway, cautious optimism.

They had me at "creators of left 4 dead" when they announced the game.
Now, after seeing the gameplay videos, pre-order locked down.

Me too, but the 4 v 1, makes this looks like Survivors vs. a Tank.

And Tanks are easily dispatched with no other infected around (especially a w/o boomer) or no cars / etc...

The monster has more attack options, but the hunters have more maneuverability as well. I would have liked it more if it were 4 v 4, but we'll have to see.

Long arms, Haymakers, and curve rocks that's all you need to wreck shit with a Tank on l4d who needs support.

OT: The Goliath is only one of the player controlled monsters you can choose from so can't wait to see the other options.

A tank on L4D gets murdered without support, or cars. Which often results in the tank finding something to climb up on and toss rocks, eventually lose control, or the survivors running back to an open field where the Tank gets murdered.

Pro-tip:

The first thing you do is kill the medic.

Also, the "tank" isn't alone in this game. There are other creatures seen that could attack the humans with you.

Den if survivors. LOS the curve rock always come in handy also the number of times I've seen a tank go in and wipe on confogl is a ton.

Well, evolve does have pre-order bonuses, I am a huge, huge fan of the original left 4 dead, and I love the idea behind evolve, so yeah...I pre-ordered.
If I see something I like, I'll pre-order it. I can always just cancel it if I end up seeing the game becoming something I don't like.

Looks interesting, love the beasts scarring the birds away to give the humans a understanding where the monsters are, looks cool hopefully not repetitive though

Sounds as though that repetitiveness relies on you and your teammates. You can come up with different sorts of strategies and take the monster down a different way each time.

At least, that's my understanding of where the real fun is when it comes to this tactical game.

Actually Turtle Rock only made l4d(1) the reason l4d2 came out a year after was because l4d2 was Valve's way of saying this is Valve making the l4d they wanted and not the one they paid for In l4d(1). It's the reason they released the l4d(1) maps on l4d2 to make people forget about l4d(1).

I don't think they can price a single-mode, multiplayer-only game at $60.
If it's $40 though, I'd probably get it.

The environments look pretty awesome but how many? Do you get weapon upgrades? Looks like it will be a brilliant online experience for all.

The action, the general concept, and the art design are all top notch, but there's something bothersome about the lighting of the game. I guess it doesn't have anything to do with the Cryengine 4's limitations, seeing as how amazing visuals Ryse had. Maybe the developers have been a bit lazy with applying different gloss and refelection mapping settings? Somehow everything from the vegetation to humans to monsters seem too uniform in how light behaves on their surfaces. Also, where is the radiosity?

I liked the subtle detail of the birds giving away the monsters position. I like the class-based co-op gameplay, the addition of a medic class (My preferred) is good news for me. I'm curious about the other types of monsters, both in variety and amount.

Have a few concerns about it. Mainly technical. Because the game solely focuses on one enemy controller by a player. What happens if that player of AFK or disconnected? Does someone else instantly fill the spot from the 'marines' side of things?
