After More Than 10 Years, Hideo Kojima Reveals MGS 2 Easter Egg

Hideo Kojima is known for his sneaky surprises. This time on Twitter he reveals a special melody that is played in the kitchen tanker from MGS 2.

SpiralTear3725d ago

I've seen videos of people playing songs like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" on those things. Hell, that old G4 show Cinematech showed a video of someone doing that. Did Kojima really think people wouldn't discover that?

sobekflakmonkey3725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

yeah, pretty sure me and my older brothers figured that out as well...didn't realize it was a easter egg

pedrof933725d ago

What? I knew they had different tones, I just never considered that an easter egg.

Razmossis3725d ago

I wish he would release the full cutscene for Arsenal crashing into Manhattan. It was cut because of 9/11

Enigma_20993725d ago

Yeah, because everyone that played that game specifically sought out those pans to shoot. Hell, that was the most important part of the demo![/sarcasm]

SpiralTear3725d ago

That's not the point. The point is that it's hard to consider that an "easter egg" when it's so easy to find, especially one worth "revealing" 10 years later.

Braid3724d ago

Razmossis,

I think it was cut at the writing level, where Kojima originally intended to direct such a scene, but never had the chance to do so due to the incident. I don't think there's a footage somewhere containing that said scene, as it never happened.

Ratty3724d ago

Yeah, you're right. There's no actual footage except for that video of Karen Hojo reporting about the statue of liberty having been hit or something. And that one video contained real-world footage too.

My_precious3725d ago

holy cow, i still need 2 playthrough to collect all dog tags efore get the platium, put this game in backlog for too long, maybe i'll try it and finish the plat of this game before MGSV come out

still having a nightmare with MGS4 credit roll after i plated this game and have to watch it 8 times without option to skip, damn you kojima

Akuma073725d ago (Edited 3725d ago )

EDIT: Never mind me. Thought you were talking about MGS4 for some reason.

ZombieKiller3725d ago

Yeah they did have a different tone for each pan. I didn't consider this to be an easter egg though. I just thought it was cool and unintentional! This is REALLY cool to find out years later.

gigoran3725d ago

Seems you also like being racist. Good for you.

incredibleMULK3725d ago

Interesting observation. My wife is asian.

CrowbaitBob3725d ago

Do you also consider the word Gojirra to be racist?

I really wish idiots would stop throwing around the word racist as if it means "said something I don't like."

gigoran3724d ago

He made fun of an Asian stereotype. That is classified as racist. Defend him all you want cause all you are defending is a racist. Good for you all.

You are making fun of an Asian stereotype. That is classified as racist. Moan and defend yourself as much as you want, doesn't change the fact that what you said was 100% racist.

CrowbaitBob3724d ago

By that definition every comedian that has ever existed is 100% racist.

Read a dictionary.

rac·ism (rā′sĭz′əm)
n.
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

You can make fun of a stereotype without being racist. In fact, he may actually like the way some people prounce their "l"s and is merely providing a gentle ribbing. Equating this kind of silliness to the autrocities of true racism is ignorant. But go ahead, keep pounding your chest in defiance against the evils of weak jokes.

ObiWanaTokie3723d ago

well put crowbaitbob, well put. people like gigoran are the "radicals" that cast people off if the majority does as well. follow those sheep gigoran, you are a joke

I'd put Street Fighter 2 over 3. 2 and all its different versions dominated the arcade scene back in the day in a way that 3 never did.

Abear21170d ago

Agreed, Same with Metal Gear Solid imo. Came for Bioshock and was not disappointed. Would easily put Burger Time or Space Taxi over tempest. Also, OG Sim City and Oregon Trail. Mario 64 as well. Just too many!

Abear21170d ago

Never played it I gotta get on this one

Double_O_Revan170d ago

Me too. I didn't have a GC until way later and never played it. I've been waiting on Nintendo to release the HD edition on the Switch for forever, but they just won't!

FinalFantasyFanatic169d ago

I never bought a Gamecube, I've always had an urge to play this game, maybe it'll get a remaster in the future.

LoveSpuds169d ago

I played it on WiiU for the first time and it remains my fave Zelda game to date. So much character and a real sense of exploration without the open world bloat.

Petebloodyonion170d ago

Ms Pacman?
Robotron?
SSF2 Turbo over 3 simply by the 10000000000's ports of the game we're still having
Castlevania SOTN?
Zelda Link to the Past over Wind Waker
Super Mario Bros 3?
Chrono Trigger?
Resident evil4?
COD MW2 (the original)?
Uncharted 2
Metal Gear Solid?

Here's my reasoning for all of them versus the list proposed in the article.
They are still quite enjoyable from start to finish on their original platform, unlike some Wind Waker or Okami that are fun when you play the remastered version (unless you call: forced to watch a 20-minute cutscene or have to blow for wind chance constantly fun).
Some of them are the pinnacle of what the console could do (MGS, Chrono, MGS)
Lots of them are still considered the go-to-go game for their genre.

Said it before but Heart of Darkness is truly a timeless gem.
