Is it fair to charge £40 for a product that’s only a small fraction of the ‘complete game experience’?

Well I think that takes the cake.

What about Halo OSDT, or whatever it was called....

OpieWinston3723d ago

@b163o1
ODST was A full SP experience with Halo 3 MP including all Maps.
All these fuckers who bitch about it being a cash grab need to be thankful Bungie tried to give us a DIFFERENT experience.

LAWSON723723d ago

@Opie I agree with you 100%

And I found all DLC to be on multiplayer Halo 3 disc to be a savior for my 20GB HDD

firs time when I find out that Infamous and MGS5 is coming out almost in same day.. I was thinking.. hey, easy choice MGS5 is the one to pick up... but then the news about 2 hour long game play.. damn.. thats a 100% deal breaker for me! I cant afford to buy Highly priced DLC's or Prologues... I want to enjoy a game for a month at least.. online is almost like a must these days also.. (except Last of us, I did skip it at start, but then buyed it used and realized if I would have known how much this game is well made, I would buy it 1st day, it was long and fun all the way, now I buyed max payne 3 used.. also tons of fun and cheap.. might do like that with MGS5 after a year or more.. Seems like Infamous is a better choice (at least for that value while new!)

Holy! Only EA could pull crap like that off.

SolidStoner3723d ago (Edited 3723d ago )

you can get ALL cars by PLAYING the game!!!

also that 120 £ car of yours is only in case if you do NOT play the game, only turn it on and if you are stupid enough, buy in game credits INSTANTLY, and then heading into most EXPENSIVE car section! ;) at least there is a fast way for rich people to get into action, who dosn't have time to play the game, all they do is work, to get money.. so they can buy all stuff the world has to offer.. lol..

and with new log in bonus (200% + to credits) and seasonal events with insane prize money, you can buy ANY car in GT6 easy..

hay3722d ago

I spend three digit hour play time with GT6 and it had actually a better credit curve that GT5. It was much easier to obtain money.
Micros are PURELY optional here.

MysticStrummer3723d ago

lol Here I was about to make a Call of Duty joke. That's insane.

Not happy with all I'm hearing about Ground Zeroes, I'm a MGS fan to the bitter end, but even so I'm not blind or dumb, I know when I'm being f'cked one way or another, I didn't expect this from Hideo of all people.

I'll get it, I can't pass the urge to get into the story again, but £40 for what sounds to be a hour or less video-game is pretty shocking, PS4 or not, it shouldn't be that price.

admiralvic3723d ago

"Not happy with all I'm hearing about Ground Zeroes,"

See, I'm the opposite, though I don't think what I want to happen will. For a while we've had a LOT of short games with high prices, but a lot of people have defended those games as quality > quantity. To a degree this is true, but in other ways I felt cheated out of my money too. However, I am worried that people will get up in arms against MGS, but won't get up in arms about other series and fight for change.

hkgamer3723d ago

Anyone know what the prices are for ground zeroes in UK?

Amazon PS3retail for £22
Amazon PS4retail for £28
GAME PS3 retail for £23
GAME PS4 retail for £40

£40 is kinda ridiculous, Amazon selling for £28 is more reasonable but I really want to know how much it will cost digitally..

colonel1793723d ago

This should have been $15 at most.

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante3723d ago

Should've been FREE at most. It's a demo.

fenome3723d ago

That's exactly what it is, it's a tech/engine/game demo. They played this up to be almost a full-fledged game untill just recently. They should've just squashed that right off the bat instead of getting people hyped.

Snookies123723d ago (Edited 3723d ago )

Nah, I agree that it's definitely not worth $40, $30, or maybe even $20 dollars... I think the game should have been a digital download that only cost about $15 max. That seems like a proper price point for what we're getting.

hkgamer3723d ago

Some well known UK retailers are selling it for £40. Not really comparable but that would be around US$65.

dcj05243723d ago

Its $20 on ps3. Oh no a extra $5

KillerPwned3723d ago

How is it DLC? Did a metal gear game come out I didn't know about?

caseh3723d ago

I think it's being considered as a mini add-on prequel of sorts for Phantom Pain. So kinda like DLC

fenome3723d ago

I know right? WTF, so now they're gonna release DLC before a game even comes out? They should've said it wasn't a full game from the get-go. Why'd they send off the hype train and let people think this was pretty much a regular game?

This gen it seems like they all just wanna find new ways to charge us for stupid shit and see what they can get away with. I think they're just testing the waters, so we need to be careful and VOCAL.

Pretty soon they're gonna be having the beginning, middle and ending hidden under DLC while you're paying a subscription for the game with microtransactions too, if you want those good weapons..

ExPresident3723d ago

We as consumers determine what's fair. Don't pay for this.

When they make nothing initially they will start dropping the price. Everyone likes to bitch on this site about developers and incomplete, broken, over priced content, but they need to follow it up with real action.

Developers and publishers like to tout how financially difficult it is to break even, then they better make sure their product is with it. We aren't their piggy bank. We are consumers who demand quality product for our money.

fenome3723d ago

I just posted this in reply to somebody else, but it totally goes with what you're saying too:

"I know right? WTF, so now they're gonna release DLC before a game even comes out? They should've said it wasn't a full game from the get-go. Why'd they send off the hype train and let people think this was pretty much a regular game?

Snookies123723d ago

As much as I agree with you, unfortunately people are still going to buy this right up. I'm personally waiting until price drops before I think about it. Sorry, I adore the Metal Gear franchise, but I'm not paying this price.

inmusicutrust3723d ago

I think this should also raise the question of why are digital releases usually the same price as retail copies? In this case its cheaper but its generally more if you consider the fact that shortly after release you can save a few bucks on a used copy! Time has come for change in the industry with pricing models. We cannot accept this microtransaction b.s. nor paying 40 for a fifth of a game(assuming w the side ops its around 4 hours and the entirety of mgsV will be around 20 hours) dlc is awesome but only when it adds to the product. Dont deliver a part of the whole as dlc.

fenome3723d ago

@inmusicutrust

Digital prices have always bugged me too. For the reasons you mentioned as well as just the simple fact that it saves them money too. They don't have to go down the production line to manufacture anything. They don't have to print and burn disks, they don't have to make disk-case and covers, there are no shipping fees. Plus it takes up space on your harddrive. Day one digital should be like $40 on a $60 physical release, that's the real way to do it.

Gamingcapacity3723d ago

This game is not the enemy. If you want to start a campaign about something you should look elsewhere. Battlefield 4 and COD having premium ad ons for £40. Free to play games with stipid amount of prices to get add ons to be competitive. In game credit that can be bought is becoming a popular theme. Game by EA are the main culprits. Games that ship with less so they can sell you the DLC to get the full game. Some cases the DLC is already on the disc.

As an whole we support this. MGSV is far from the evil side of gaming. I expect a campaign that will take a few hours to complete with hours of replaybility and other things to explore and do besides the main story. If the retail price is around £20/£25 then it will be worth your money. Amzon are selling it for £23 so that's ok. Might have to wait a few weeks to get it to drop from £28 on for the PS4/X1 versions

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan168d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara168d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Minute Man 721168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Nyxus168d ago

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga184d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19184d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19184d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq184d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger184d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder184d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils184d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder184d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85184d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

1nsomniac184d ago

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420184d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim184d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo184d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
