Activision believes Destiny will be the biggest game in history.

And this is the problem with Bungie signing up with Activision...Activision puts unrealistic pressure on Bungie which better not result into a repeat of what happened to Infinity Ward...The last thing we need is Bungies talent leaving and disappearing for 4 years.

Thank god Activision isn't making any bold claims for Blizzard games.

We all know Destiny will sell well, but we don't know how well. It does have a 10 year plan behind it so if it sells well enough they might suck the game dry.

Soldierone3724d ago

Sales is not what made IW leave. What made them leave was the inability to create something new. They wanted to make something other than COD and Activision said no, so the two head guys left and the studio followed. All the money issues didn't arise until the two sides got all mad about the split.

Bungie is signed with Activision to create at least 3 Destiny titles, with expansions in between, and another studio is signed to do the same. (the 10 year plan) So there is really no worry, if Bungie decides to leave they can, Activision only has rights to Destiny, not Bungie.

However there is no denying Destiny is going to be a success, at least the first title. If you have Halo and Destiny under your belt, why would you be denied another IP?

Akuma073724d ago

Where did you read this? I have never heard anything about Activision owning the rights to Destiny. Who is the other developer?

Soldierone3724d ago

Activision has rights to anything Destiny related for 10 years. Anything Bungie makes for Destiny within that timeframe needs to be published through Activision.

jamestewart3724d ago

So a full fledged unpacked game.. right now that is Mario Kart Wii at 35 mil. I think it's gonna have a hard time even coming close to Black Ops sales at 25 mil.

Magicite3724d ago

Its pretty much impossible to make FPS game become best selling game in history.
I might agree if they call it best selling in its own genre, but not among all games.

Rainstorm813724d ago

GTA 5 sold 35+ mil in less than a year.....I seriously doubt Destiny lifetime numbers will catch that game let alone be the "best selling game ever"

But with that said I got mine preordered and can't wait for the beta

cellfluid3724d ago

Records are made to be broken my friend!!!!!!!

badz1493724d ago

Seriously, Activision?? why the hell do you wanna put this kind of pressure on Bungie? I hate it when publishers think that just selling really really well alone is not enough if a game is not the best selling! Activision do know how much Destiny have to sell to become the best selling in history, right?

Destiny is one of the few next/this games that I "HAVE" to play.

It just seems to have that certain appeal, at least for me personally.

Same with The Order 1886.

I spent a lot of this gen on Xbox 360 playing a ton of games that in the end aren't that memorable. A lot of filler and "ok" games that were "just enough".

I'm ready for games to make that next level jump.

WoW me like Mario 64 did back in the day...

OpieWinston3724d ago

You didn't play a lot of memorable games on your 360(Last gen)?
Ever give Alan Wake / Farcry 3 / Darksiders 2 / Halo 3 / Gears of War 3 / Forza Horizon / Injustice: Gods Among Us / Dishonored / Elder Scrolls V / Fallout 3 / Kameo / Mass Effect / Max Payne 3 / Fable 3 / Etc...
I had plenty of "Memorable" experiences on my X360/Wii and even some amazing games on my PS3. (More of a PS1/PS2 fan)
Alan Wake is still one of THE BEST games I've played to date...It's a full experience and I can't wait to see how Quantum Break plays.

danny8183724d ago

All the talk about is money instead of the type of quality and the new experience it will give gamers.

Palitera3724d ago

If the game doesnt sell well, nothing to worry. The microtransactions will multiply the revenue.
Yay!

iiorestesii3724d ago

Too bad Halo 2 didn't have a ten year plan. I wish I was still playing that. Other than visuals I feel not many improvements have been made since in the FPS department. I miss the simple, old, 1-50 ranking system of the good old days when matchmaking was based on skill level. Bungie started everything. This will be a historical release.

To me this game show way better first impressions than Titanfall it actually seems next gen and the gameplay i seen seems way more tackle for greatness not to mention the imense open enviroment and the setting.

Brazz3724d ago

agree...
Destiny >> titanfall

Globox20123724d ago

Destiny will not be the best selling game of the year nevermind history. Call of Duty and Fifa will still top it this year. Although I have no doubt Destiny will be great.

SamPao3724d ago

I dunno about that, we have to wait and see.
Who would have thought WoW would outsell every other MMORPG when it launched?

Brazz3724d ago

destiny will be a very strong IP... but hell there is no way to surpass things like GTA or Mario, they are way too big!

-Foxtrot3724d ago

Yeah they would say that....typical

The only thing they care about is money

I hope Bungie don't get b***** around by them as the game grows more successful.

Honestly don't know why they went with Activison in the first place

Sam Fisher3724d ago (Edited 3724d ago )

I wonder too, i mean it looks like ea written all over it, since im so used to activision rehashing so much i thought that since ea(both still shitty companies) is more versitale hence i see bungie more towards ea, or i guess since bungie is using cod money i guess its unlimited resources lmao

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter325d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell325d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig325d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast325d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername325d ago (Edited 325d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g325d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka325d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai476d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface475d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
