You Can Jump Right Into inFamous: Second Son's Story Without Playing The Previous Games

GearNuke: "inFamous: Second Son is the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive from Sucker Punch, the creators of Sly Cooper series. inFamous series started on the PlayStation 3 and got about 2 full fledged games on the system and one short side-story. In case you were wondering if you need to play the previous games in order to enjoy the new one, you should be glad to know that there is no need to do so."

I hate when devs say things like this, deep down you really do have to play the other games to understand whats going on. The world thats changed in this game is because of what Cole did in inFAMOUS 2 so really if you actually want to understand the story you do need to play the first two games.

I also have a gut feeling that Cole will be mentioned or maybe seen at the very end hinting at his return. Did he come back alive when the lightning bolt struck at the end of inFAMOUS 2? Did the Government experiment on him and keep him locked up? Was he revived and because of how the Government responded to conduits he and Zeke went into hiding? There's so many explanations of why he could be alie still, hell you might revive him at the end of this game who knows.

I know they've said Cole is over and done with but I don't believe them, they wouldn't throw away a much loved character. They talked about how they wanted to tell other stories with new conduits as spin offs when inFAMOUS 2 came out and because this is called Second Son instead of inFAMOUS 3 I think thats what they are doing....giving Cole a break so when they do bring him back they've used other conduits as a means to make the world different next time we play as Cole.

No Foxtrot,

I think they just said that because it's explained to you, in a short story probably...

This is what the limited says - which you get just for Pre-ordering

-
Uncover what happened between the devastating events of inFAMOUS 2 and inFAMOUS Second Son in Cole’s Legacy.

Cole MacGrath’s actions in New Marias set in motion a chain of events leading to the now forceful occupation of Seattle by the oppressive Department of Unified Protection. Cole’s Legacy bridges the gap in time with a series of missions Delsin Rowe must complete that reveal unique insights into how the world of inFAMOUS Second Son came to be.

----

so I think they just meant you will understand what happened before and then go into the new story, without being lost on anything.

Yeah...but what if you don't pre order, what if you don't have the money and miss out on it, it's not really your fault is it.

If it was in the game for everyone they could say this but when it's a pre order DLC which not everyone will get it's not correct in what they are saying

Anyway what I make from this is that they are trying to say if your a new player to the inFAMOUS franchise you won't need to play on the two games....which I think is wrong because you should, theres so much to learn especially with the whole Kessler/Cole thing, thats a mind f*** on it's own. Don't think they'll explain all that in a short pre order DLC.

Gamba113729d ago (Edited 3729d ago )

@foxtrot... Im glad you seem to know more then you know the people who created the game. If they say you dont need to, why would you think you do? Im just curious since you know you didnt make the game.

-Foxtrot3729d ago (Edited 3729d ago )

...That makes no sense

They created the game...I played their game. The only thing I don't know from their games is the knowledge of making it. What I do know is the story BECAUSE I've played their game which tells me it, thats one of the things you'll learn when you play it since thats what the game is revolved around. With all the story elements that are found in the first two games and the fact they are continuing these story plot points in Second Son I think you do need to play it to fully grasp the story....it's not opinion it's fact.

It's like saying

"Oh your don't need to watch the first two Harry Potter films to understand the rest of them"...because you do.

At the end of the day they are only saying this to not put new players off, who they are targeting.

dcj05243729d ago

@foxtrot i think its like killzone shadow fall. You don't NEED to play the other killzones to enjoy becauseit's not a direct sequal.

My_precious3729d ago

i want it like, Delsin find cole's body or grave and absord his lightning ability

that lightning ability will be freaking awesome with PS4's power, it's just waste to not do this in this game

DigitalRaptor3729d ago (Edited 3729d ago )

Damn, I hope they do include lightning powers. It does seem like it would be a waste not to. I'm hoping they'll introduce it about halfway through the game - that would be a great surprise.

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx3729d ago (Edited 3729d ago )

From what I understand, you'll be able to understand Delsin's story an this "new world" (time has changed alot since inFAMOUS 2) without having played inFAMOUS 1 & 2. There will probably be a mention of how it all went to shite directly after the events of inFAMOUS 2.

Think of it like Dead Rising & Dead Rising 2. DR2 is a story in itself. Little bits are explained here & there to tell you what you NEED to know or remember from the past but Chuck's story was easy to follow and understand without DR.

ALTHOUGH I agree completely. InFAMOUS 1 & 2 are gems, and shouldn't be missed by anyone.
InFAMOUS Second Son. Day 1.

Sleebs3729d ago

Technically, you don't have to play it just to understand the story. That's what Wikipedia is for.

Jovanian 3729d ago

thats the sign of a shallow game

you shouldn't be able to jump right into a game series at the 3rd installment. That is just ridiculous PR marketing talk

dcj05243729d ago

I can jump right into tales of xillia or killzone shadow fall no problem. I played sonic adventure 2 first then 1. You're jumping to conclusions too quickly.

PersonMan3729d ago

It's not the third installment. Do you see a number 3 at the end of the title? No.

It's a whole new game with a new protagonist and a new story.

jukins3729d ago

Eh just because its not labeled 3 doesn't mean its not the third installment. If you think about it second son takes place after infamous 1 and 2. And I'm sure the ending if infamous 2 somehow plays into the games story ( won't put spoilers).

As for it being a whole new game with a new story and protagonist... That's a stretch gameplay looks the same, swap out the rebels (or whatever they were called) from infamous 2 with the new antagonists and its not much different. The main character also seems like a blend of characteristics from good and evil Cole.

That said I'm still looking forward to the game because they're good games and fun to play.

jukins3729d ago

Hopefully there will still be references to the other infamous games.

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM98d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck97d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati97d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos97d ago (Edited 97d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88129d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183128d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie128d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
