Mobile games can be “legitimate” games as well

Save/Continue writes: There is an all-too-common trend of dismissing mobile games as “not real games” among gamers. The arguments are usually along the lines of “touch screen controls are bad”, “mobile games are quick cash-ins” and “mobile games can’t offer the depth that real games do”. Which are all fair arguments if we look at cynical corporate cash grabs such as Final Fantasy: All The Bravest. However, dismissing an entire platform because of the worst examples on it is unfair.

Of course they can be. The problem is that the general mobile audience rarely ever wants "legitimate games." They want bite-size distractions that you can pick up and play on a brief bus ride or in a waiting room. That's why these smaller games thrive on smartphones and tablets.

Putting these "legitimate games" on a mobile device is like putting a game like Angry Birds on PS4; the audiences are incompatible with the game's placement.

Deus Ex: The Fall is a an excellent game on Android platforms. Well, that's the version I've played and it's good.

Yeah, I'm about to purchase Deus Ex: The Fall on my Samsung Galaxy Light. How are the controls?

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

What other games were inspired by this game?

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
