GTA Online Microtransactions Worth $100 Million Per Year?

Grand Theft Auto V already set numerous sales records last fall but its true earning potential has yet to be tapped, according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia. He believes that the game's multiplayer, GTA Online, could earn Take-Two Interactive over $100 million per year.

In this case, destroying a game is more lucrative than making one with proper progression.

So nothing new here...

EvilCackle3740d ago

The only positive thing I can say about the microtransactions is that they're (probably) helping fund new content.

-Foxtrot3740d ago

Doubt it

The Ballad of Gay Tony never came from micro transactions, neither did Oblivions Shivering Isles or Borderlands DLC.

Everything they earn from the GTA Online micro transactions they'll keep for themselves.

EvilCackle3740d ago

Ballad, Shivering Isles and the Borderlands DLC weren't free, though. The updates to GTA Online are. Instead of selling us new content for GTA Online, they decided to give us free content to make us spend more money on microtransactions. Not saying that it's a better approach but it's their approach.

"Ballad, Shivering Isles and the Borderlands DLC weren't free, though. The updates to GTA Online are"

Yeah because nothing in the online they've gave us is worth paying for, it probably takes them no time to make...

Your really comparing a the beach bum DLC to the Ballad of Gay Tony or Shivering Isles I mean really.

"Not saying that it's a better approach but it's their approach."

...and their approach is greedy and bad.

I would of preferred a longer ending for the single player end where each character has one final, long mission tying up their own personal loose end and then killing the last guy toegther, not a "bang bang your dead" which is over in a flash.

Hell even if they had more people working on the single player DLC to get it out quicker.

yayyyyyy to sucking your fanbase dry :)

Sucks though you've been a fan purchased every title to show them you believe in their product and as a show of gratitude they ask you to pony up even more money -_-

Double_O_Revan3740d ago

Somehow I doubt that. With all the rampant cheating and hacks, there isn't a whole lot of need or incentive for people to actually buy them.

Shane Kim3740d ago

So this game made all this money, and set all of these records, yet they are going with micro transaction? Now that's a greedy company.

Audiggity3740d ago

Yet Apple, the most cash rich company in the world, brainwashing the masses with barely usable devices and churning out easy-to-break and hard-to-repair hardware using slave labor gets off the hook?

Hahahaha... how about Blizzard's WoW (12 million players paying $15/month in 2010 after buying the game for full price)? Or any pay to play subscription model? Or any micro-transaction game for that matter?

Hilarious.

GTA V may have set sales records initially - but, look at the long term revenues of some of these other companies. Besides, Rockstar invested more in the development of GTA V than any other entertainment budget in history.

You mistake greed for capitalism and turn a blind eye to other companies that take more for producing far less.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing691d 23h ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos1d 21h ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius1d 10h ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy851d 20h ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius1d 10h ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
