Was the PS4 a wise purchase at launch

It’s hard to believe we’re already a couple weeks into 2014 and with that we leave behind Christmas, our drunken New Year’s Eve shenanigans and the debut of two next generation consoles – the PS4 and Xbox One. Now we’ve had a good month or so to digest each system’s launch and its offering of games, I figured what better time than to reflect on the pair and just how successful their respective launches were. I’m not talking sales figures here because let’s face it, both have had an excellent start. I’m talking the games, the systems themselves, the features – the things that gamers care about. So let’s kick off with Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Same here. I have played games on my PS4 everyday since I purchased it. One of the main games I keep coming back to is Warframe, a F2P game. I use to play Warframe a lot on my laptop, but it ran slow because my laptop wasn't so hot. I had to turn down all of the settings, but thanks to my PS4 I can play Warframe with all of the bells and whistles.

On top of that PS+ has given me Resogun (which I love and platinumed), Contrast (which is okay), and now Don't Starve (which is really fun).

I have not regretted my purchase since Day 1 and seeing how popular PS4 is I am glad I grabbed it on Day 1, instead of waiting around hoping to find it at a store.

No regrets what so ever. Awesome console. The more I play and the more that I read the comparisons I'm more and more certain that I made the right decision. Can't wait to see what the future holds for PS4. Hopefully devs will finally stop worrying about parity and push the consoles to individual maximums so owners of BOTH next gen platforms will get the best experience possible offered by them. One not being held back by the other.

The games out now aren't exactly my cup of tea but I enjoyed most of them. I just can't wait for all the greatness Sony's first party will bury me with. InFamous (and maybe Driveclub) will be just the beginning.

I'm loving my Ps4 as well. Got a lot of games on launch, CoD Ghosts, BF4, NFS, Lego MARVEL, Injustice, AC4, FIFA 14 plus the free ps plus games. So I'm set. Will be picking up TR DE next week.

There are plenty of games to play and so far I had a blast.

i didn't really buy my ps4 for what was available at lunch more for what was to come, i had a feeling it would be sold out everywhere and rather than wait and have to deal with searching furiously online for a retailer to have it and its being sold out the next minute i bought one. the games will come with time and i am glad i bought one no regrets here

I would be lying if I said its launch lineup had any influence on my PS4 purchase, however Infamous: SS and MGSV aren't too far off. I suspected the PS4 would be scarce after launch, so picking it up launch day saved me the problem of trying to track down restocks.

More quality and diversity. In a way it's the worst launch lineup for a Ps console yet. However multiplats(from last gen too) saved it.

Either way I don't see why he'd regret getting it, Infamous is out soon along with a bunch of worthy games. I think this gen has the quickest release of high quality games yet. Despite **** launch lineups

I got Killzone and AC4 thats it no other game interested me. I got it mostly on hype and I wanted to see if it would be my main console but for now it wont.

Killzone was ok I think. I still didn't finish the story. Still stuck on the level where you have to kidnap some scientist from a space station.

But AC4 was amazing in my opinion. I got 40+ hours in the single player alone.

You should pick up BF4. Now that it's fixed it's amazing to play. 64 player conquest is a blast. Next week we will get Tomb Raider DE. if you like action/adventure and haven't played it yet, I highly recommend it. Also, it's better on PS4 than on Xbox One according to the developers.

I dont buy EA games anymore with their immaturity towards Nintendo, this just show how they really are and Im not going to support that. Tomb Raider I already finish it on the PS3 and got it on steam for like $3.

Even though I have no regrets on my purchase and I absolutely love the console, I have been playing my XBONE a lot more. I love Resogun and Battlefield and Need 4 Speed rivals that I bought for it and all of the other PS+ games so no complaints. I just personally have played the XBONE much more lately. No hate for either console though, both are fantastic!!

Zero regret here, though I was a month late to the party (Christmas gift). I've got plenty to play to tide me over until the next few games I want hit and the monthly PS+ game freebies don't hurt either.

PS4 is a wise choice at any time. But, it can't hurt you to hold off purchasing any new console until the games library increases and any issues are ironed out.

I haven't purchased one yet for this very reason...soon my pretty, soon :)

so far no, but thats only because I got games for Wii U bit of a backlog, plus the 3ds and then I got ps3 games too.....ps4 is cool and all, but its only bragging rights to own it early theres just not much content yet, well let me be specific theres not much stuff I want to play on it yet, so i have to wait a few months....I know everyone going to bring up infamous is coming out soon, but I do not like infamous thats why I said I have to wait a few more months....only game I am interested from here to may is Bravely Default, and Mario Kart, but I will wait for a few trailers to change my mind

If you're a fan, and you wanted to see better graphics last year without a high-end PC, the value of it is how happy it made you, really. And that's totally subjective, but at least the PS4's pretty impressive, with a user interface that at least works, in comparison to that other one that depends on voice search... ahem... to do anything.

But long ago, when I got into console gaming (think PS2 Era) the main reason that drove me to console gaming, was on the couch with friends gaming. As of right now, the only "on the couch" games on ps4 that I know of, are Knack, COD-G, and Lego Marvel. I am personally not interested in these games, and I am still VERY interested in seeing the future of couch coop/ multiplayer.

Until the ps4 brings something unique in this manner, I am still mainly glued to my ps3. I spend most of my console time playing with friends/ room mates and I hate to leave them behind.

It sounds like you need a Wii U to go along with your PS4. That's one of the bigger reason why I bought my Wii U.

My PS4 was a great purchase with no regrets. It has the best version of AC IV Black Flag. Also, it makes me want to upgrade my TV.

I should start off saying I don't have a console preference. However, I have really enjoyed having my ps4 and given the fact that they are so hard for other people to find right now, I have no regrets.

Well I do want both, my only real thought about the Xbox One is that my smart tv can handle all of the other media stuff that I want.
So I'd rather that the console is fully optimised for games with very little compromise for other media.
But as I say I will eventually get both as they both have some great exclusive titles coming out.
So with that in mind it really comes down to the games that are available right now.
PS4 first at the moment.

For me there was never a console generation with a perfekt start lineup. But for me it is very important to support the new generation from the first second so it will be a incentive for the developers when the console sells very good at start. I think its a way to get faster better software.

Get it in a year and save maybe £20 ($35) and miss out on a years worth of current gen and 1/8th of the consoles lifespan (assuming next gen is 8 years away) and it doesn't seem worth the wait to me :/

I got one and launch and not regretted it for a second although if I had to of waited a few months I don't think it would of bothered me in the greater scheme of things. There's no must have title yet and the functionality still has a way to go.

I have KZ and Assassin's Creed. I really haven't gotten much use out of my PS4. I have PS Plus with Resogun, Contrast, and I will get Don't Starve, however I really don't see the point of owning the console right now.

There are a few guys in my clan who purchased a PS4 but then as they are big race fans bought GT6 when it was released. Even though they loved GT6 going back to the PS3 was a real issue for them, as once you've moved up to PS4 going back to PS3 is painfull (talking about download and install times and the general UI) so I've no regrettes at all. (Killzone multiplayer will keep me busy for ages regardless of anything else)

right now there really isnt much to play that i havent played on my pc over the last year. if the kz mp community wasnt on life support already, i would play far more of my ps4. resogun is awesome, but there is only so much i can play of the same 5 stages. hopefully more will come.

i have no doubt that more great games are in the pipeline though. infamous in march is a good start.

i had my ps3 stolen in july. so for me i really wanted a new console instead of buying a ps3 again right at the end of its cycle. even though the ps3 has had some good games this year. im hoping most of them make it to ps now and that i can buy them cheaper then i can buy a ps3.

i enjoyed my ps4 alot since i got it. im loving dont starve and really enjoyed resougun and contrast. and ac4, but with the delay in drive club and watchdogs i could of waited till march when infamous comes out. if i still had a ps3.

I'm a little regretful, just because I feel the OS and stuff definitely isn't in a complete state yet, which is part of all the problems happening with hardware/software at the moment. I just don't want it to break on me and have to go through all the troubles of replacing it. I'd rather have waited until the next version or 2 of internals, but that could take a year or so before they start doing that, so it's hard to say.

I haven't had any hardware issues like some have, but I got mine Dec 19th, and I was able to install 1.52 right away. I have noticed that the share function is not flawless at the moment. It sometimes records video of like an hour earlier or so, sometimes no video at all, or a snapshot with a video. It's very inconsistent in its current form. They really need to hurry with the next patch. Other than that, and the fear of hardware failure, I'm happy with it and glad to have it now, even with so little to actually play on it.

I regret buying Ghosts, only got it cuz my nephew is the only other PS4 owner I personally know at the moment, but yeah, the game is pretty much trash. I'm waiting for Outlast and some exclusives to come out already. I've only played a small amount of Infamous, but Second Son looks like one of the 1st truly nextgen games visually, so I think I'm getting it.

The only real complaint that I have about the PS4 is the lack of 3D BluRay support. I'm sorry but removing that feature was ass backwards for Sony. Fortunately I didn't sell my PS3 so at least I can use it still for this.
