PS4 Exclusives To Get Excited About In 2014

Sony's new console has enjoyed one of the most successful launches ever. Having already shifted more than four million units, the company will have to keep plying the fledgling system with quality titles to carry the momentum well into 2014 and beyond, and exclusive games are key to this. Luckily, there's a number of promising AAA titles that you can only play on Sony's next-gen console in 2014.

MysticStrummer3745d ago

"in light of inevitable pressure from Sony, it's very likely we'll see Uncharted 4 before the year's out."

That would be amazing, but I doubt it. Much more likely to release mid to late 2015. Hope I'm wrong, but if I am I hope it's not because the game was rushed. I trust Naughty Dog though.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

I think it'll come out in November. It's definitely a title that should release during holiday season. November 2015 is too far away. And with the decrease of development time it could certainly release this year.

Plus they teased it last year. So pre production is already done. Production is only 12 months tops.

admiralvic3745d ago

"Plus they teased it last year. So pre production is already done. Production is only 12 months tops."

Indeed! Every game that gets teased (even though this was just some talking and a map...) gets released within 12 months. I know that I am enjoying my copy of The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, Drive Club, Watch Dogs, Deep Down, inFAMOUS Second Son and The Phantom Pain. / S

Right now we don't know enough about "Uncharted" to speculate when it is going to release. I mean, we don't even have confirmation it will follow Drake, but people act like the game 100% will release in 2014. While it is entirely possible and I hope it does (provided it meets the usual ND standard), every sign points to this being an EARLY reveal, which are pretty common. Not like a game being revealed has much / any indication how far along they're in the process. For instance, Nintendo will announce some games that we know next to nothing about ( X ) and other games that release shortly after the announcement (3d World was announced at E3 if I recall and released 4 or so months later).

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3745d ago

All those games you mentioned are special cases. The last gaurdian and ffxv were delayed because of technical issues and being moved to new hardware. Driveclub and infamous were teased less than 12 months ago and will be out by march. Just a 1 month difference. Deep down is an rpg and they take longer to develop. I dont know anything about watchdogs delay other than i saw it coming.

HebrewHammer3745d ago

Uncharted will be 2015.

I'm still not convinced the Order will be 2014 either.

danny8183745d ago

I do think the order will be out this year. They showed a great demo last year in E3. You will see a playable demo this year at E3 and the game to be slated for this year

DigitalRaptor3745d ago

Why would The Order not be 2014?

It's been in production since around the time GOW: Ghost of Sparta went gold (late 2010). That's plenty of production time (almost 4 years) for a story-based third-person action/shooter/fantasy game.

Here are some reasons of WHY I believe that Uncharted 4 will be released the upcoming holiday season (November 2014):

For you guys who don't know. Naughty Dog was splitted into 2 teams for several years and I don't know if it is the case today since we don't know if TLoU will have a sequel nor if ND will start a new IP. The developement of TLoU began already in 2009 (link posted).

http://www.vg247.com/2011/1...

*The Last of Us-team developed TLoU after the release of Uncharted 2 (in 2009). With that logic/working progress I bet that the Uncharted-team began development of Uncharted 4 after Uncharted 3 was released on the PS3 in November 2011.

*Naughty Dog is a 1st-party-studio and got their hands on the PS4-devkit in early stages (Sony owns ND). They got their hands on the devkit probably during 2012 when the PS4-concept was in the final stages at Sony headquarters to be prepared for global announcement (February 20th, 2013).

*To tease a game almost 24 months wouldn't make any sense as someone here pointed out and it's extremely rare. Uncharted is a franchise that'll always be released for the holiday-season (around November every year as in previous installments).

*Note: if Uncharted 4 releases this November it will mean that the gap will be 3 years since the last installment. A 4-year gap feels unrealistic since we all know that Naughty Dog has developed AAA-games and released them with a 2-year gap constantly. With two teams they might release a game every year nowadays. Example:

2007 Uncharted
2009 Uncharted 2
2011 Uncharted 3 [splits into 2 teams]
2013 The Last of Us
2014 Uncharted 4
2015 The Last of Us 2 / New IP
2016 Uncharted 5
2017 The Last of Us 3 / New IP 2
2018 Uncharted 6

etcetera

3-4-53745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Year 2-4 is when things start to get good.

2015 will be much better for XB1 + PS4.

PSP took 2-4 years to start getting a ton of games.

Same with 3DS.

Same with DS

as well with almost every other console or handheld in existence.

2014 will be a GREAT year for handhelds, and an ok year for consoles.

2015 is the year to look out for though.

Irishguy953745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

360s best years where its first 3 years, where it's quality dominated Ps3 in exclusive content or early releases(Oblivion 1 year, Bioshock 1 year etc) and a much better online experience, and better multiplats until devs learned CELL. And they had their best games released during those years. Gears 1, Forza 2, Mass effect, fable 2, Halo 3 etc. The Xbox didn't get those fanboys for no reason

Ps3's best were 2009 - Still going, where total domination of the 360 started at about 2010 due to taking over exclusive content wise and the online becoming very close to the 360s, only rally missing chat. During 2008, Demons souls, Valkria Chronicles and MGS4 were release, before that there wasn't much, Resistance 1 was ok, Uncharted 1 was ok, Warhawk was very good etc, but none of them were masterpieces like Gears 1 and ME, and Ps3 didn't have its Racing sim out yet. Only a few exclusives and none of them reached the quality the later games did. MGS4 was even disappointing to me compared to the rest of the series. Regardless Demons souls was really the start of Ps3's leading for me. I imported. 2009 onwards was infamous 2(first got repetitive), Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 etc, and they took some exclusives from MS. Multiplats start being better on Ps3 etc

This time, it seems they are going to be equal for year 1. With someone of an equal amount of quality content coming out in Year 1. I wonder what will happen this time around. I don't expect Sony to stop going with what they've been doing since 2009. However MS almost completely ditched hardcore games for the 360 when Kinect was revealed. So i'm curious as to what they'll do this time around

JohnnyTower3745d ago

I clock more hours on my 3DS than any other console or PC. I don't know if I could handle it if 2014 is better than 2013. Last year was a great one for 3DS games.

AngelicIceDiamond3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

@Irish E3 2009 is when MS greater E3's. I remember when they specifically dropped the sales charts and everything none gaming for everything gaming. But of course revealing new features for 360 it had great pacing.

John Schhappert was specifically responsible for that. And showcased brand new games at the time and the early upbringing of Xbox 360 as the "All in one" console. https://www.youtube.com/wat... skip to 7:34

I missed this guy he knew how to do E3's until Don Mattrick hosted and after 2009 everything went downhill the next several years at MS E3. But luckily Sony was was picking up steam and all there showcases were finally seeing the light. 2010, 11, 12 they were on fire and winning E3's. And even won last years.

Though I think last years was a bit of a blunder considering DRM was the omega elephant in the room. I blame MS but I mostly blame DRM in generally it took over E3 and people lost track on what was really important. It went from a competition of games to a competition of who supports DRM. And rightfully so DRM had to be adressed.

E3 2014 I'm sure gamers will be back on track this time. Looking forward to MS, Sony and Nintendo this year. Btw Nintendo showing off its rumored system at this years Expo possibly? Naaah.

danny8183745d ago

Sony wont pressure ND trust me. They'll pressure them to have a playable demo or gameplay for E3. I predict that they'll have gameplay by E3 and have the goume out by june 2015. it was the same process with the last of us.

Eonjay3745d ago

"in light of inevitable pressure from Sony, it's very likely we'll see Uncharted 4 before the year's out."

Not really. Naughty Dog has bad it clear that Sony is very hands-off when it comes to input. All Sony does is pay the bills. Remember the Last of Us was delayed until it was ready.

jacksjus3745d ago

I read a report about two weeks before the PS4 launch with some ex-intern from ND that stated that she knew that UC4 would be announced at the Spike TV Sony release party because she saw the game and felt that it was well into development. Based on her comments becoming true I imagine the game will release this year.

NumOnePS3FanBoy3745d ago

I would definitely be ok with uncharted 4 releasing next year.

I highly doubt Sony would put pressure on Naughty Dog to a degree where a game is rushed.

Naughty Dog is their top developer.

snookiegamer3745d ago

I'm more interested in what Sony haven't announced. I'm totally excited for this years E3 and Gamescom :)))

JohnnyTower3745d ago

This years E3 will be massive. All eyes will be watching what Nintendo will do to turn around the Wii U, what Steam OS and the Steambox is all about, and all the new PS4 and Xbox releases. I will be watching with a vested interest, to be sure.

SKYVVLKR3745d ago

I'm gonna buy stock in the casket industry when U4 comes out because of how hard it's going to turn heads.

supraking9513745d ago

I hope Rime and Everyone's Gone to the Rapture come out in 2014. Both games debuted last year at Gamescom

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg6h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos5h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

I think if used correctly it could work well

Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.

just_looken20d ago

The new temp boss is the sony cfo bean counter so i can see this being a thing get every penny.

Cacabunga20d ago

PlayStation officially losing it.. fans will never support gaas games

just_looken20d ago

@car

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6420d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long20d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197220d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic20d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

DivineHand12520d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91320d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer20d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91319d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit19d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

Christopher20d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6919d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit19d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher20d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken20d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197220d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic20d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2320d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218320d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder20d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.

Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
