Shuhei Yoshida Comments On Dimming The DualShock 4 LED

GearNuke: "When the DualShock 4 was originally unveiled, complaints were thrown around on how its Light bar can reflect in the TV screen and how it glows in the dark. The Light bar was also blamed to result in a rather short DualShock 4 battery life. This annoyed some of the people and a set of complaints started. Sony outright slammed the possibility of disabling Light bar but seems like dimming it might be a better alternative solution."

TimeSkipLuffy3737d ago

Turn off if not used is the best solution unless you give us a really trustworthy and logical reason why it has to be turned on all the time.
I wouldn't care because I do not have that problem but a friend of mine is really pissed and things start to sum up. Her PS4 is very very loud, game crashes, etc... and now she is gone to X1 camp and will stay there because she thinks its the better system overall despite of the non user friendly UI. One friend less to play with...

MRMagoo1233737d ago

Maybe your "friend" should have returned the ps4 for a working one, because i now know in my local area 42 ppl with a ps4 and none of those have been loud or crashing in games a lot , it could probably be all because of a faulty console, like the fans are loud because the systems not cooling enough and that would also probably make games crash.

WalterWJR3737d ago

Probably crashing on battlefield lol

admiralvic3737d ago

"know in my local area 42 ppl with a ps4 and none of those have been loud or crashing in games a lot , it could probably be all because of a faulty console,"

Do they actually USE the console? I only ask, because simpler games like Don't Starve and Resogun don't make a sound, but if I load Killzone, then the fans go off and it is quite loud.

Sethry1013737d ago

Says a lot about the quality of your consol when the highest problem it has is an annoying little light bar.

personally the light bar has never really effected me because I sit pretty far from the TV, but I do hate how it glows when charging while I'm trying to sleep.

Tru_Blu3737d ago

Walter exactly. I was about to ask if this game happened to be BF4.

zeee3736d ago (Edited 3736d ago )

Well, to be honest, I would LOVE to turn off that light bar. It'd be nice to have that option. I want to save the battery as much as possible even though, it's only LED. I have turned off that little speaker on the DS4 and have also turned off Vibration (never really cared about Rumble that much) yet the battery still sucks compared to the rock solid, long lasting DS3 battery.

Lastly, the one that that I am VERY annoyed is the bluetooth headset support.

Seriously, this is messed up. I really REALLY want to use my PS3 wireless headset (not the Pulse but the first one). I want my virtual 7.1 surround sound man. It makes one hell of a difference when you are playing games like Battlefield. Plus, the comfort level is sky high compared to my Galaxy S4 stereo headphones.

Bennibop3736d ago

@NighmareLuffy I get the feeling you are trolling, your friend could have got a replacement but instead she moved to X1 which has a wider range of reported potential technical problems

TimeSkipLuffy3736d ago

I agree. I told her to send the console back because Amazon is offering a great service but she is the type that gets frustrated very fast. And because she always buy all consoles she got the choice which one her primary console will be.

nukeitall3736d ago

@Sethry101:

"Says a lot about the quality of your consol when the highest problem it has is an annoying little light bar. "

I think it is more a case of it being so annoying it overshadows everything else.

I really don't understand the point of this lightbar thing. Just turn it off, or is it not possible?

Maybe Sony didn't plan on it every being turned off, because they originallyl envisioned the PS Eye included with every PS4.

RumbleFish3736d ago

I'd like to turn it off. For now I have it covered with duct tape.

ITPython3736d ago

My PS4 is whisper quite even after several hours playing KZ:SF and a room with a temp of around 70 degrees.

Perhaps those that complain about a loud PS4 fan are either exaggerating, got an unlucky console, have their PS4 sealed up in an entertainment system with no airflow and/or they live in very hot areas.

ShadowReaper143736d ago

the only problem i have with my ps4 is when i flip to a different hdmi setting to watch cable or use my ps3 while something is downloading on my ps4 or something and then try to go back to the hdmi setting that is connected to the ps4. i get a black screen with no sound i have to turn off the ps4 and turn it back on and then it will be fine but i can't turn on the ps4 while watching cable then turn to that hdmi setting. Only a minor annoyance. I mean it could also be my tv because the ps4 is such powerful machine or something i have no idea why it does that. i was just wondering if someone else has this problem? or knows how i can fix it! :)

Cool story bro, hopefully her imaginary PS4 has a guaranty

Plasticgearsolid3737d ago

You mean his imaginary friend's imaginary PS4

HardcoreGamer3736d ago

i dont know, if i bought a ps4 and it made all these problems, i would of move to xbox 1 aswell

,,,
after thinking about it while typing this.. NO I WOULDNT. its not enough to change to a difference console.

Prime1573736d ago (Edited 3736d ago )

At the gamestop I worked at, I had a lady return 2 xboxes in ONE day. I was like, when do you give up? I mean they were readily available without shipping, I guess.

I've only seen one ps4 come back.

KonsoruMasuta3737d ago (Edited 3737d ago )

Your friend must have had a super defective PS+ if she was having constant game crashes and it was loud enough to make her complain about it. Your friend should have used this thing we call a "warranty".

princejb1343737d ago

We'll I hope your friend enjoys your xbox. She won't be missed

VforVideogames3737d ago

Yeha she turn to the dark side.

Joey_Leone3737d ago

She's trippin, me and everyone else i know have no issues with the ps4, the only time i experience crashes is when i played BF4, and she said the PS4 is too loud? She must have had that system next to her head.

dillhole3737d ago

Well that sounds completely made up. Nice try though.

PersonMan3737d ago

My PS4 is perfect. Haven't had a single game crash and it has been as quiet as my PS3 Slim.

minimur123737d ago

I'm not sure if it's just my os4 but by the sounds of it, it just is, but sometimes when there's quite a demanding game on screen you can here the fans, thoughts people?

At first when I heard it I got a bit worried but after a while I've got used to it. At least I've got a warranty if anything f*!ks up

GW2123736d ago

I'm with you.

I actually have had a game crash (BF4 obviously) but that hasn't happened since the first week I got my PS4. 100% smooth sailing for the last few months.

I am still pleasantly surprised at how quiet the console is. I never hear the fan no matter what game I'm playing.

T23737d ago

@nightmare - ah yes the fully returnable ps4 under warranty is a huge issue but when people's 36o crashed 2-5 times they were loyal xbox camp huh? By that logic 50 percent of 360 owners would have switched within 2 years

TimeSkipLuffy3736d ago

she switched from X360 to PS3 because her X360 died several times. She always buy all consoles. She is truly a console freak XD
but now it turned around. Nothing I can do. She is like that.

TimeSkipLuffy3736d ago (Edited 3736d ago )

@Bennibop My friend is like that. She always buy all consoles and was too frustrated because the Killzone bundle send by amazon was delayed and then she got a faulty machine over christmas. She always enjoys the console she feel most comfortable with.
For me it is the PS4 despite missing features. I was always a playstation child (not Sony even if its a sony brand) but I respect other opinions, too. She was just unlucky and now she plays X1. There are people like that who get frustrated very quickly. Nothing to do about that.

@all
she had the killzone bundle with CoD and BF4.
All crashed at some point.

I assume it was because of a faulty machine (known fan problem). I don't know if she is going to return it for another one. She does not care about PS4 anymore. In our company three ppl including me preordered a PS4. Two got problems with the fan / cooling system. I'm the only one who got lucky XD

It's sad to read that ppl always assume bashing of a console and madeup storys. If you like you can visit us here in Germany and convince yourself of the problem. She got no problem with that at all.
I just tell how it is. Sadly truth can hurt sometimes.

AshleeEmerson3736d ago

Guys guys guys guys, why do you feel so threatened by what luffy is saying. I can not believe the time wasted on this comment whether what he is saying is true or not. He is being very polite and even somewhat believable. If you think he is lying then ignore him and move on.

Utalkin2me3736d ago

@Lukejrl

Cause this is a article about the led on the controller. He felt the reason to tell us his story that has no bearing on the article. His own fault for getting flogged.

il-JumperMT3736d ago

BETAfield 4 crashes do not count.

Angeljuice3736d ago (Edited 3736d ago )

My PS4 is completely silent and hasn't crashed once since I bought it (admittedly I don't own battlefield though).

Depending on how its circuit is designed, it could well be impossible to turn off the LED. It doesn't cause a problem for me personally however.

ITPython3736d ago

Also it's possible dimming it won't do much to extend the battery life if it is dimmed via PWM.

And the light itself doesn't bother me either, but I would like to know how much current it's drawing. If it's less than 50mA then turning it off completely would only give a few extra minuets of battery power. However if its sucking 100-150mA of juice, then it is a significant draw on the battery.

saber000053736d ago

@NightmareLuffy, Do you realize how much power the LED light actually uses? Not to mention how small the module actually is? There's a reason why LED lights are now so much popular.. They BARELY take up ANY power, but broadcast a bright light. I do soldering all the time, and I took a look at the PS4s... Turning it off won't make a difference...

Neonridr3736d ago

but why can't we have the simple option to turn it off if we want? I can turn the LED notifications on my phone on or off, I can even change the colors to signify different events. I don't have the PS4 camera, I don't have two controllers, so why in the hell do I need to have a light on the top of my controller on?

When I play Killzone it changes color to indicate my health, thanks. I can see how close I am to dying by looking at the TV, not my controller..

The light requires power, whether it's a little or a lot shouldn't matter. It IS affecting the battery, regardless if it isn't as much as some people like to believe. Having the option to turn it off would do nothing but improve the battery life, even if it was only mere minutes..

Of course putting in a larger battery is a better solution.. but that's a different story.

Utalkin2me3736d ago

@Neonridr

If things are so bad that you need a couple of extra minutes from a controller, you have issues.

saber000053735d ago

Maybe they have the light on, so they it shows you that the controller is on... I feel your battery argument is invalid because it uses BARELY any power... If anything, it shortens the battery life by 20 seconds... It's not worth the time or money to hire programmers, for hours, to create an option on the PS4 to turn it off the light. Because then, they have to spend a butt load of money to press it as an update.

BABY-JEDI3736d ago

Wow. What a dim view she has of the PS4. She will get diminishing returns from an Xbox1. I bet you think she's a dim whit now. Really sorry for the bad puns
LoL

rayzorn3736d ago

i have played 4 disk based games so far. madden, battlefield, ac4 and killzone. killzone is the only one that is really loud for me not sure why. my ps4 is in an open entertainment center. well ventilated and its level not wobbling.

kz sounds like the disk is shaking inside the drive though. but i put movies and other games in and it dont do that. and the killzone disk looks fine. no distortions, warps or scratches.

Elimin83736d ago

Dim is a good option.. NOT completely turned off. I would assume you need it for in-game health, battery indicator, Player location and assignment? It's not all that bad really. I say dim instead of completely off. If they turn it off some of the options I mentioned might no lover be supported by devs…. E.g health, notification etc…

My thoughts….

Am I the only one that doesn't have a problem with the light bar?

Utalkin2me3737d ago

Its not so much the light bar bothering you while you play. Its draining the battery when honestly it should be able to be turned off.

LOL_WUT3737d ago

I don't know but u could've sworn the battery lasted me 4 hours without the cable I too think they should address this issue ;)

BitbyDeath3737d ago

Is the battery time really an issue though?
Who has the time/patience to play for 8-10 hours straight?

kreate3737d ago

agreed. I don't think its the light bar that bothers ppl. even the 360 controller has a green light coming straight at ur eyes, and the x1 has white light coming straight at ur eyes while holding it.

its the battery I think should be the main concern here.

Angeljuice3736d ago

@BitbyDeath

When I have plenty of weed and free time, I've been known to put in up to 18hrs a day for a couple of weeks. Red Dead Redemption, Fallout, Gran Turismo and Skyrim (amongst others) have all received this degree of attention in the past.

thehitman3737d ago (Edited 3737d ago )

I dont have a problem either. I think the complaint is dumb. You cant see the lightbar when your playing a game off the screen its not that bright. In the dark its actually quite useful as it helps me see my controllers lol... I do admit it is kinda useless in terms of gameplay is concerned with the light flashing etc or changing colors but it also doesn't impede my experience in anyway whatsoever. Its LED so it doesnt drain the battery if anything the audio and rumble does.

I am sure they will add a feature to change colors to whatever you want later and a turn off, but its definitely at the bottom of the list in functions/features they should be focusing on.

JetsFool35003737d ago

Thats where people get confused my tv stand is small so the bottom of the tv is right at my knees usually where I hold the controller & it is bright enough to shine off my plasma

princejb1343737d ago

I don't have a problem with it either
People will just always have something to complain about
If you give them the option to turn it off someone will cry about not been able to change the color when they want
Give them that and they'll cry over something else

Neonridr3736d ago

stop crying about people wanting to cry.. :P

MRMagoo1233737d ago

I have no problems with the light bar but then again, i dont play in the dark ever, i also dont have any problem with the controllers battery life, i charge it around the same amount as i charged my ps3 controller which was about once every 3 days or so.

GribbleGrunger3737d ago

I forget it's there until an article reminds me it is. I suppose it's the same as when some people complain they can hear a dog barking all night while other just don't hear it because they're not listening for it.

GrandpaSnake3737d ago

for me it also helps finding it and it also looks cool when someone is holding it

minimur123737d ago

I actually live it, when I'm playing Killzone I'd put something bright infront of the controller so I can see the colours better of what my health is in the corner of my eye and I don't rally need to take my eyes of a game

Neonridr3736d ago

@minimur12 - so you rely on the color on your controller to tell you about your health? Not the fact that the red colors start creeping into the corners of the screen and start filling it up as you get closer to death?

bobtheimpaler3737d ago (Edited 3737d ago )

I don't have a problem with it. I doubt its the light. LEDs really don't use much power, and the battery in the DS4 is more than double that of the DS3s. More likely the speaker, chat or maybe even touchpad are reason for battery life.

That said. Controllers do charge up faster to make up for it.

What I'd like sony to do is allow for DS4 sounds to be output to main speakers in firmware, so that I can game in complete silence with my headset late at night.

Blackcanary3737d ago

Why don't you just make it so the sound all comes through ur head set that you plug in to the controller when you play at night that works really well.

sevilha823737d ago

No sir you are not...

Dont understand what the fuss is about(apart from the batery drain)it dosen´t bother me one bit.just place your hands in a donwward position.

People complain to much and don´t even try to find solutions for their "problems"

jacksons983736d ago

I don't have a problem with it. Actually in my opinion the DS4 is the best controller ever.
Actually I personally love the light.

I am currently using my PS4 for netflix now.... and one thing that is bothering me is there is no BD remote for the dam thing!

I have to wait till my DS shuts off by itself without pulling up the submenu.

Neo Nugget3737d ago

Yeah, same. I tried to turn off the controller manually but that didn't work. I don't really have a problem with it when I'm playing games though.

cee7733737d ago (Edited 3737d ago )

Here's a trick!

Hold the PS button.
Hit circle to exit back out the menu.
Hit X to continue whatever you were watching.

*Please note you have to continue to hold down the PS button during the entire process and within 10 to 15 secs your ds4 should power down.

fenome3737d ago

Thanks cee773! Just tried this and it works, love finding new little things I didn't know about. +bubs :)

Rageanitus3736d ago

it should be really implemented like the PS3 style. Logging into a profile per controller is ridiculous kindov reminds me of the xbox method.

minimur123737d ago

Dude, you can use your TV remote on it!

The TV remote you use to turn on/off the TV you can use to navigate the UI and also for blue ray playback, it should work on Netflix but I haven't tried yet

hollabox3737d ago

Turn the damn thing off if no camera is installed, maybe I can gain 25 percent more battery life. DS4 from my play experience is not a good controller besides the firm grip. I'll take the DS3 any day of the week, at least I can get a full day out of it.

Hicken3737d ago (Edited 3737d ago )

The light bar still indicates that the controller is actually ON, and is also the indicator of which player you are, neither of which rely on the camera for use. So that suggestion is a poor one.

Still, it would be nice if they could come up with some energy-saving methods to extend the charge of the DS4.

Edit: You're not making sense. How is it an insult? It's a built-in feature designed so that players know who's got which position when there's more than one controller. And what does age or Nintendo have to do with it at all?

And STILL, there's the fact that the lightbar is the ONLY indicator of when the controller is on.

hollabox3737d ago

Damn that was quick, I don't need the light on to indicate what player I am, hell I only play my PS4 SP, not enough friends of mines own one yet. Using a light to indicate what player I am is damn insult, that's Nintendo logic thinking most 30 something gamers don't know the difference between the Wii and Wii U when in fact the average gamer is in his late 30s.

Angeljuice3736d ago

@hollabox

You would not receive anything like 25% more battery life, it's more like <1%.

hollabox3736d ago

Whatever I might be I'll take it. If I start playing Madden at noon on a Saturday, 9 times out of ten the controllers dies right before 8:00. My XB1 controller I've only changed out the rechargeable batteries ounce per controller since 12/26/2013. Holding off on buying a 2nd DS4 controller, I have a feeling Sony will release a new higher capacity DS4 battery later on this year.

fenome3736d ago

Nyko is also about to release a power pack extended battery for the dualshock 4, so there's always that too

http://www.engadget.com/201...

Maybe try turning off the speaker in the controller as well if you're trying to squeeze as much as you can out of it. The speaker uses more juice than the LED anyways.

fenome3734d ago

I'm just gonna reply to this one so it shows up I replied to you. lol

Yeah I get what you're saying about the Nyko thing might be bulky since it's external. Not to mention $20 is $20 on top of what you paid for the controller in the first place. After thinkin' about it, it might just be a smarter move to wait till they release the next controller with a longer battery life. We both know that's coming 'cause not even a full days charge is bullshit.

I got my ps4 and 2 controllers from my old lady for christmas though, so I just keep one charging while I'm playin' with the other one and switch 'em out when I need too.

Npugz73737d ago

It drains the battery! We should be allowed to turn off the light! It's pointless if you don't have the camera.

ziggurcat3737d ago

It's an LED light. That uses *very* little power. It's not "draining" the battery.

bobtheimpaler3737d ago

LEDS use very little power, and the DS4 has more than double the mah of DS3. I seriously doubt its the light. More likely chat and DS4 speaker are the culprit for low life.

fenome3736d ago

Go to adjust devices and turn off the speaker in the controller, it uses more of the battery than the light ever will

hollabox3734d ago

My speaker has been off since the first weekend after finding out I couldn't get close to half a day out of my controller. The Nyko power pack for $20 is not a bad idea unless its makes the controller uncomfortable to hold or unbalanced.

"Got that one right, Shu!"

Kind of ironic when Sony is focused on GaaS like never before.

Flakegriffin352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Companies evolve overtime. Sony has implemented themselves in the single player space relatively well. Now they can expand further by doing more all while still giving us single player experiences. Obviously Shu is speaking on GaaS games being the main dominance of the gaming space and if that’s the future then that indeed sucks.

You can have that mindset all while still creating some GaaS titles.

InUrFoxHole352d ago

They have 10 in the works right now.

Crows90351d ago

Absolutely! Man all the freaking gaas games theyve been releasing...wait. Not a single one.

sinspirit351d ago

Did you read? It says "dominated". That word means something.

RedDevils351d ago

They don't want to be Blockbuster, too stubborn to adapt with time.

tagzskie351d ago

kinda ironic when it comes to xbox you xboys can even defeat einstein in explation why its good, when it comes to ps you guys became dumb and dumber..

FinalFantasyFanatic351d ago

How so? They're only after one or two good GaaS games, they're throwing crap at the wall until something sticks, alot of those games in development are going to languish and die shortly after release. They're still predominately focused on their core strategy of great single player games (look at the previous interview where they admit they cancel alot of games).

Bathyj351d ago

God why do Xbox gamers always love the thought of PlayStation being as crappy as Xbox.?

DarXyde351d ago

"Like never before" regarding GaaS is like saying "PS3 is a console that launched with HDD space like never before": it's a very low bar to clear because there isn't much precedent.

I happen to agree with Shu here. I don't think being a GaaS title is a scarlet letter, but I can't think of any live service games that have been great at launch either. Naughty Dog is looking likely break that trend. I'd say two love service titles at a time is the sweet spot. I suspect people can only deal with a limited number of live service games contemporaneously.

TheCaptainKuchiki351d ago (Edited 351d ago )

Lmaooo
People always criticize Sony because 90% of their exclusives are single player games. People say they are too expensive because of low replay value.
And you wanna pretend like Sony is focusing on Gaas? Their biggest games aren't Gaas unlike MICROSOFT.

ModsDoBetter351d ago (Edited 351d ago )

How are Sony focused on GaaS?

They own Bungie and have Destiny but the majority of their titles are far from GaaS.

Why, if you are such a die hard Xbot, do you rush to comment on Sony related articles?

1Victor351d ago

@obscure
Are you ok now we was worried about your mental health state when you disappeared for almost a week from bashing PlayStation articles.
Is the word DENIED still triggering you?

I haven’t read the article as my spam blocker always red flags that site and I don’t t want to risk it so a general comment it is 🤦🏿
We all know live services game and quality rarely goes together but some of them are fun to play

derek351d ago (Edited 351d ago )

@Obscure, Sony is starting from a place of zero which requires a big initial investment to establish themselves in the live services market.

Vengeance1138351d ago

It's very much the opposite, Shu said this damn well knowing Sony is going hard on GaaS. This is Shu confirming that Single player games won't be effected at all despite them going into Live service.

Extermin8or3_351d ago

Except they aren't really- they have what may be a live service game from Haven studios and firewalk studios, they have another from a second party dev and an fps game with multiplayer focus by deviation games, they counted Gt7 as a live service game but really it's not much different to how recent GT titles were treated, they have the last of us factions, a Horizon multiplayer game in production at guerilla alongside horizon 3, a new ip from Bungie. The rest of their studios seem to be hard at work on traditional singleplayer games that may also have a multiplayer mode or may not. So their live service titles are mostly in development from either new teams setup at existing studios or from acquisitions they have made which really just replace the capabilities they once had through Sony Online Entertainment until they sold it half a decade ago. Only I'd argue their new capabilities in this space would appear to be better and have higher quality talent than it did back then.

Thank god for actual gamers in the industry.

neutralgamer1992352d ago

Shu I agree but right now Sony themselves are working on more than 5 live service games

Redemption-64352d ago

He never said they were not working on any. He said, he doesn't want to see Gaming's Future dominated by live-Service Games. Sony currently has 25 games in development. 10 being live service games, with the other mostly likely being single player games and that is honestly a very good balance

neutralgamer1992352d ago

I agree I just hope their live service games are not simple money grabs and try to do some good interesting things

-Foxtrot352d ago

"and that is honestly a very good balance"

The issue is, whether people want to admit it or not because it's Sony, but once a company gets a taste of that money GaaS games make the chances of them going money crazy becomes super higher

I know what you'll probably say

"bu bu but Sony wouldn't do that"

NO COMPANY is immune, even the best can fall and I really don't want to see that happen here.

The fact people will completely blow that off and pretend it's not even a possibility is worrying to me because that's how we end up shits creek.

They might be fine...they might go too far but at the moment I don't think it's a bad thing at all to be sceptical with the shit this industry has gone through in the past 10 years alone.

FinalFantasyFanatic351d ago (Edited 351d ago )

The thing is most of those 10 games won't even be viable, out of the 10 that actually get released, probably only 1 or 2 will make the big bucks worth continuing support. I think Sony even knows that, look at all the other GaaS games that release and die shortly after. Personally I'm okay with that because I don't want the market dominated with these games.

I'd actually rather the resources go on to making some more top-tier JRPGs, I feel like we don't get enough of those in the last couple of gens.

neutralgamer1992351d ago

Final Fantasy

But keep in mind when those games fail many of the studios are shut and there are layoffs

NotoriousWhiz351d ago

Yeah exactly what I was thinking

Not 1

Not a cheeky 2

But freaking 5

Like it’s not even a “we’ll try doing one and see how it goes”

@-Foxtrot What do you have against live service games. I’m not a fan of live service games, but multiplayer games can be done right just look at Titanfall before EA killed it. As long as PS’s core studios keep making single player games, everything should be fine.

Sony said they have 25 games in development. 10 being live service games, with the other mostly likely being single player games. They have more single player games in development

Urm....that they are a cancer in this industry

That the majority of them fail and the developers have then wasted years on them rather than other things.

They turn developers and publishers into thirsty little money grabbers where that big money is still not enough for them.

I could go on, defending GaaS games is not a hill to die on man, it's really not

"done right just look at Titanfall before EA killed it"

Titanfall 2 was not really a GaaS type of game compared to what we are getting now so that's a really bad example.

__SteakDeck__352d ago

@-Foxtrot Yeah it seems like you just have a hatred for multiplayer games. I’m not the biggest fan of multiplayer games, but like I said they can be done well. Also Titanfall 1 had no single player it was multiplayer only and it’s now a dead game, but it was still good. So yes that is a good example.

@_SteakDeck_,
I'm still salty about Titanfall 2, it was one of the only multi-player games I actually liked.

NotoriousWhiz351d ago

Multi-player games don't have to be Gaas games. Look at Mario Kart, Splatoon. Nintendo's games most likely don't have Gaas because they're behind the times, but this is one area where it's better to be behind the times.

And? They still have single player games. Domination would completely ruled with live services which Sony should know to still do single player. On a side note they should also do a few 1st party smaller games like indie or AA. By the way is indie a single A game.

To be fair, so has many other companies aka Ubisoft for example and many of them they decided to end development on. Just because something is in the works does not mean it will release if they do not feel it will pan out. ATM all of the GaaS we know of from Sony are The Last of Us Factions, and some kind of Horizon (Monster Hunter like) game. Also keep in mind, they do own Bungie, and Destiny and there new project be it Destiny 3 and there new IP will likely be that. So just that on its own is near half of what we can best assume.

Main issue with GaaS now days is that its very over saturated. Keep in mind as well Battel Royal games are GaaS by nature also, hell CoD is GaaS. Halo Infinity, ditto. Really now days unless something is an honest to god single player game only the GaaS term gets over used.

Not sure if many played it (I loved it) Gun's Up was a GaaS for a long while, it was going to shut down till some youtubers gave it a bit of new life for another half of year. We know Sony Mobile is working on things and it not shock me if some of this stuff is targeted to the mobile market.

Right now Sony's biggest weakness I'd say is MP games. With that Firewalk studio from lots of vets they just acquired its quite likely there game will have GaaS stuff as part of it, that is still years down the line. I think everyone needs to chill out some and just wait and see what comes. We have not really got a real honest GaaS from Sony before this or even last gen really... At least as we know them now days. Such a broad term now.
