Why 2K Needs to Rest WWE for at Least a Year - AusGamers

AusGamers has posted up a feature outlining how the WWE series of games has failed to remain relevant and points out that now under 2K, the series should rest up for at least a year and re-emerge with a new engine and potentially be headed up by Visual Concepts.

True enough, a change in publisher from THQ to 2K Games will help freshen the polish, marketing and online support for the videogame series, and at face value it could be argued that there’s a sense of energy around the IP in videogame form again. But the biggest change required needs to go beyond the fluff. Development of the WWE videogame needs to be taken away from Japanese developer Yuke’s and given to Visual Concepts (veteran sports game developers, responsible for the NFL2K and the NBA2K series, specifically the truly next-gen experience that is NBA 2K14). True, WWE 2K14 credits both studios, but the gremlins associated with Yuke’s’ SmackDown Vs Raw series (the precursor to WWE2K) still linger in last year’s Squared Circle release."

I don't think it'll take a year for the next WWE videogame to be good, 2K knows how and what it takes to make a sports game because they go above and beyond the call when putting work and detail into the game to make the representation look and feel as authentic as possible.

If we were talking EA sports, it would take them years to get this game right.

Unfortunately Yukes are the actual developers and 2K pretty much let the guys they brought in from original THQ team run the WWE license. If 2K took over themselves, we'd probably see a much more detailed, higher quality game. Hopefully they do so for next gen.

Visual Concepts WILL be working with Yukes for WWE2K15. So either way its a joint effort this year. Maybe they are phasing Yukes out of WWE games. We will see.

I just hope they don't get VC happy like in nba 2k14 and charge me for everything, like ring entrance music and VC to create a wrestler

All it needs is a new engine and alot of new animations becaues most of them i remember way back in WWE smackdown here comes the pain so that makes it really old

I've had every WWF/WWE game since the first WWF Smackdown game came out on PS1 and yes some have been great and others not so good but I've always enjoyed them coming out towards the end of the year. If they did skip release this year and release it Q1 or Q2 2015 I'd be happy with that, I just hope the detail is better, a new engine, some new match types such as Ambulance match/stretcher match and the ability to explore the arena more and every superstar made available throughout the past if possible.

to be fair the revamped store modes in 2k13 and 2k14 were great additions, of course there are lots of room for improvement but not all is bad

If they added a career mode like they have with NBA 2k I would definitely purchase.

After not playing a wrestling game for many, many years I decided to pick up 2k14. i was actually very excited. Come to find out theres not even a road to wrestlemania mode or anything even in the whole game. Why even make a character? I'll never buy another one. Prob a game with 2k on the box as a whole. What a lame joke.

They do have one story mode. Its reliving the classic moments. Or well some of them at least. Its not at all about your character doing anything. So yeah I understand that feeling. Only reason they went with this I believe is because they keep making trash with the whole X360/PS3 gen the SP story elements got worse or non-existent. WWE12,13, and 14 push a different focus which helped them a little, but I would love to see CAW Storylines back into a career like mode.
