Capcom has just released a massive 13GB patch for Xbox One exclusive game "Dead Rising 3". No official changes has been revealed, so what exactly this massive Dead Rising 3 patch fixes or adds is still a mystery.

So to resume, you are forced to download the DLC even if you dont intend to purchase it.

Because it is a 13 Gig patch, does not mean it will add 13 Gig to what you already have, it will overwrite some of the existing code.

The only way of knowing if it is worth it, is to see what is different after the update.

Look, I get what taxes hardware... that many zombies really does blow your ram up. Ask me why, I don't care, nor do I get it, but the married couple I live with has one x1 in the family room... HIS x1 (weird as HE hates Sony) and two tvs and 360s in their bedroom.

Anyway, enough backstory... I get too play x1 games without buying them... dr3 is fun, but gta5 looks better, and almost acts better on the last gen. It is most certainly bigger, too. I just don't get the dr3 hype...

Mandatory gigantic updates(especially with my connection) is just another notch on why I'm waiting for a long while before getting an X1. Would take me a whole day to download that and it doesn't allow you to play while it's downloading OR installing....and we know how long it takes for the X1 to install stuff.

Had a whole gen of that with the Ps3. Ps4 seems to have knocked it out the park in this aspect.

This better not become the norm this gen, for me a 13 GB patch would require well over 24 hours to download. Realistically about 3-4 days since my bandwidth won't be 100% dedicated to downloading the patch.

IMO a patch should seldom go over 100MB. 300MB at most. But Trojan-horsing the DLC in a patch even if people aren't going to buy the DLC is extremely lazy, and/or arrogant, on the devs part.

See obviously so many people on this site haven't played Dead Rising 3. For example, I can expect it to have a large patch because I have beat the game countless amounts of times.

If you played the game, you would know that once you collect 100 weapons blueprints, the count becomes 100 out of 210 weapons blueprints collected.

Second, once you collect all 10 vehicle blueprints, the count extends to 10 out of 20 weapons blueprints collected. That's not including the additional random weapons, extra clothing items, new map locations, new random vehicles, zombie types etc....

13GB patch is minimal when you think about the additional gameplay elements that will be patched in. Can't believe you gamers complaining about file sizes lol, just be happy that you're getting awesome content instead of DLC that could have been included on the disc to begin with.

Now back to playing Titanfall Alpha before it ends in 4 hours.

What the developers had done is they have written and edited over existing code, the majority of the patch is already existing content. The positives of Steam is that it can add small bits of piece of new code, such as 12 mb updates, instead of the whole game file size.

I noticed with the BF4 update recently that after about twenty seconds or so that it went straight to 97% and downloaded from there, so I just started Dead Rising to see if it would do the same and sure enough after about twenty seconds it went straight to 50% and is now downloading from there. I'm curious to know what is going on behind the scenes if anyone has any ideas.

This patch didn't take up any extra space on the HDD. It replaced 13GB of data that came on the disc. Swappable Harddrives are irrelevant in this case.

I can't argue against a bigger HDDs, but I dispute the notion that most people would prefer swappable to external. I think part of the reason folks choose consoles is because they don't have to get into the internals. I think the more tech savy will be swapping their HDDs on PS4. The more casuals probably won't be getting their next gen consoles until the HDDs are bigger anyway. External will be an easy solution for everyone else.

My experience is that many ps4 owners don't swap their Harddrives. Many people I know bought them late enough to get Harddrives big enough for their needs. I don't know a single person who has done it. In fact I know quite a few who didn't even know it was possible. (Probably because they aren't tech savy) I didn't say you need to be tech savy to swap it out. I just think the folks who bother with it are more likely to be tech savy.

@snookiegamer... MS is adding (as they have gone on record stating) the ability to add on an external drive vs swapping out an internal drive. Its two different approaches for sure.

On the Sony side (my understanding) is you have to swap out the new drive for old drive, format it, then re-download or install any content you want to keep from the old drive.

On the MS front, it appears (again based on what they said) you will just be adding an additional drive to your system via USB 3.0. All data on the existing harddrive will still be accessible. Its not a replacement drive but rather an additional drive.

Mines downloaded without me knowing. I saw this post checked DR3 and it was ready for install. I think it only added a little over 1 gig to my game install. I did notice this game is now doing some type of temporal AA. Moving the camera in certain angles I'm seeing that blur Halo Reach had from its AA technique.

Any who trollers must be bored if a damn DLC and patch update is getting this much attention. I mean can anybody be surprise patches and DLC content are coming in over 10 gigs when game installs are starting to average over 30 gigs?

It is not the case but this reminds me the many patches that the game The Witcher 3( bought at Steam store) received.
Every time this game was patched we had to DL the entire 13G size of the full game. So many people complained..
After that fiasco I stayed away from buying any game from Steam until Skyrim arrived.

Hmmm... looks like a lot of fixes, which is good. But still, 13 gigs is crazy for a patch. Think Ill wait for the next version with all the patches and DLC on the disc. By the time I want an Xbone that will hopefully have happened. Im a sucker for the Dead Rising games, but I cant justify a $500 system for one game that interests me.

I noticed that while downloading and installing this patch ( which took over 3 or 4 hours ) when it said the game was ready to play I loaded up the game but Nup it wouldn't let me play the game until the patch was finished with its install. ( ms would you please fix the wording and say that its updating not installing). And what does this forced patch add? sweet fuck all. and said to be the first DLC which of course you can't play unless you buy it. WTF

This is the kind of stuff that makes me glad I am waiting to splurge on the Xbone or PS4. If these installs and patches are eating up hard drive space like that THIS early in the generation, how bad is it gonna be in a year or two? 500 GB isnt nearly enough from what I have seen so far. The average user is likely to use up that 500 in less than a year. We need 2 TB's in these systems!

Once they start putting out 2 Terabyte + models with free games and all that jazz, I will totally jump in. Im tired of seeing awesome deals down the road after console releases and feeling like I got burned for adopting early. I have always been a launch junkie, but this last generation was so good that I feel I can hold off. Plus Im getting my feet wet in the new gen with my Wii U, so between that and the dozens of games I have in my backlog I know Ill be able to stick it out.

Its crazy though! A 13 GB PATCH! How many other games will have patches bigger than that. I mean, this is a launch game and we already have patches like this?!

Ok, so i really dont care about the xbox one 500 gb hard drive cap yet what my major concern with this gen so far is the size of these patches !! Every game i have gotten on my x1 i have had to download a 2 gb to now 13 gb patch for before i can even plaay the game ! And what makes it so bad is i have DSL which means one of these massive patches takes like 2 days to download and i cant convince my grandma to get fios so im screwed i dont know if anyone else is up shits creek without a paddle like this but i certainly am and i hope they get this shit figuered out quick
