Driveclub: “Every Location Is Precise Down to the Angle of Light. Flora Is Detailed to the Species”

One of the most impressive elements of Evolution Studios’ upcoming PS4 exclusive Driveclub is the level of detail of the environments surrounding the tracks that will appear in the game, and a couple interesting new elements have been unveiled by Sony.

buying this first day. i cant wait for new gameplay videos of this game and im hoping for a lot

GarrusVakarian3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

I love reading about this game, the devs are like the R* of driving games when it comes to attention to detail.

They have even nailed the detail of the cars down to the correct size CARPET SCREWS and the correct placement of stars in the sky. Amazing. Day one buy.

Here are some AWESOME GIF's to wet your appetites :p :

The best part is that this game is partially free. You get to try almost the full version of a real next gen driving game just for being a Plus subscriber

ArmGunar3745d ago

Take your time to develop and bring us a amazing game !!

The improvements that we have seen are simply stunning !

Jihaad_cpt3745d ago

I think you meant 'whet' not "wet".

karl3745d ago

i can say those gifts look ten times better than any driveclub trailer outthere...

were they released by the game´s studio?

all tracks look like u are driving through a car´s tv ad... just perfect

GarrusVakarian3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

@karl

Yeah, they are official GIF's from Evolution. They look so much better because im pretty sure they are from the latest build (that we have seen, anyway). They do look amazing, i can't wait to see it on my TV.

GribbleGrunger3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

... And that's the older build now :) Things have been improved further.

ABizzel13745d ago

@Lukas

The first Norway is still the best to me. Driving over the mountain and seeing the view and the fog rolling around. It's like Northern California on a foggy day. Beautiful in the game, scary in real life :D

allgamespc20123745d ago

and even the stars...are you listening to yourself?

Dee_913745d ago

would be awesome if they had settings for more realistic handling and arcade handing.. but thats kind of reaching.2 different types of driving physics in one game is unheard of.. but it would be nice.

elhebbo163745d ago

I can I get the source? I want to see the full video, it looks so good :o

FamilyGuy3745d ago

Those gifs are created from some really short clips the DriveClub devs uploaded to Facebook using the PS4s share button. They're all months old now, literally 2 months old each.

Yeah im interested in this game too. I got the xbox one over the PS4 because Forza 5 was out on day one and I may pickup a PS4 later on this year for this game unless Playground announce a PGR or Forza Horizon but I will be getting a PS4 in the next 12 to 18 months depending on cash for this game.

Hope everyone enjoys it when it comes out as it is looking like it will be a must own game and its nice to see racers getting centre stage at the moment.

It's free is it not?

Driveclub and Deep down are free. Keep seeing people saying they're pre ordering/buying them and stuff. I thought they was free unless sony went back on it or something??

I thought there was a free version of DC and then a Ps+ 'free' version? Which is basically the full game? I say free on PS+ because PS+ is now mandatory for online play.

I don't know about it myself though, i'm more of a Sim guy. Waiting for GT PS4...probably take a long *** time but whatever

xHeavYx3745d ago

I believe Deep Down is a Free to Play game. You get the PS+ edition of DriveClub if you (obviously) have PS+

BoriboyShoGUN3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Theres a free version and a paid version sir. I am going to try the free version first, and if its everything I hope it is I will be buying the full version.

**yeah free for PS+ but it wont have as many cars, tracks etc. But I think its a perfect way to demo the product ;)

imtheman20133745d ago

I think Driveclub is free to PS+ members, but it's possible that it won't be the entire game.

And Deep Down is simply free to play, as far as I know. It'll probably have micro-transactions that speed the game along, but I'm pretty sure it's still free.

GarrusVakarian3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

I heard that if you get the PS plus version, you can then upgrade to the full retail version for less.

I hope that was true, regardless, i will be buying this.

Kayant3745d ago

"Driveclub and Deep down are free" - No Driveclub was always a retail game. It was meant to be the big IGC game for PS4 at launch but that changed with the delay however there will still be a PS+ version with some content missing but you can still platinum the game.

BoriboyShoGUN3745d ago

@Irish well if its a free game you don't need PS+ such as Warframe, DC Universe, to go online. If its a PS+ free game such as Resogun, and Driveclub then yes you would need plus to go online with those.

DeadlyFire3745d ago

Deep Down is MMO Free to play game. So they are free to play online without PS+. Even Subscription MMOs should follow this I believe. First one that is coming so far FFXIV Realm Reborn has stated it will not require PS+ for its users. Its the first subscription MMO on the PS4 platform.

Sony has said it left it up to publishers for MMOs using PS+. Considering all the MMO subscriptions out there I believe its a safe bet they avoid requiring PS+ on 95% of MMOs on the platform.

Drive Club PS+ edition is a free for PS+ users with some limited areas, but you are getting the full game code. So likely you can buy the extra stuff for less or something to that extent. There will also be a full game disc/Digital copy you can buy.

There is no free version of Drive Club unless you have PS+

The true next gen racing experience, can't wait to play this game

evolution studios
some developers who worked on PGR series

best of both worlds working at sony inside evolution studios. I think this game will put evolution studios on a national stage. As great as Motorstorm was, many didn't even try it because it was their cup of tea

motorstorm was always difficult so i hope driveclub is like that, where when you win you will get the satisfaction of the victory

Shakengandulf3745d ago

Motorstorm were very difficult though with the rubber band Ai and such, i hope the Ai in driveclub is aggresive/smart, But dont have a rocket ship when one car falls back from a collision.
I'll be buying the full version of this, supporting the devs for there hard work, can't wait.

psman0123745d ago

I'll be honest. I wasn't too excited about driveclub at first. Then, I watched some of the gameplay and it was completely blown away. Man, does it look fantastic. I'm not exactly anticipating a Gran Turismo killer, but it does look exquisite.

Bobby Kotex3744d ago

Can't wait for this game. Hopefully there will be a strong multiplayer community.

BoriboyShoGUN3745d ago

sounds good! this is the type of things I like to hear gents!

Eonjay3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Hi Def grass confirmed.

"The cars are made of a staggering 250,000 polygons."

Impressive

SKullDugger3745d ago

Dude GT5 has 500,00 polygons per car so 250,000 is not good.

Eonjay3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

I'm sorry what? If you mean 50,000 than isn't that 5 times the detail?

yewles13745d ago

@Eonjay

GT5 and GT6's premium cars average at 500,000 (half a Million) polygons, double what Evolution is touting.

Eonjay3745d ago

@yewles1

Thanks for that. Still looks gorgeous to me. What do you guys think?

imt5583745d ago

So, why cars in Driveclub look better than cars in GT5 or GT6?

3745d ago
Cernunnos3745d ago

GT5 might be higher polygons, but that is not all that matters. The shaders, the lighting, the texture resolutions etc are all very important to how good something looks.

Hell, even if GT5's car models turn out to be better, they might still seem worse due to the environment they are set in. There is no single thing that makes a game beautiful.

frostypants3744d ago (Edited 3744d ago )

Two things:
1) There's more to graphics than polygons...once you hit a certain point, it becomes less noticeable and becomes little more than a numbers game.
2) I'd rather have more of that GPU horsepower spent on the environment, which is where most racing games come up short.

SKullDugger3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Do some research and you will know. Check IGN and the Offical Gran turismo site. Forza 3 had 200,000 to 250,000 per car and Grand Turismo 5 has 500,000 per car sorry the truth hurts so much check the facts they are out there.

Eonjay3745d ago

Why would that hurt? It looks gorgeous.

TIER1xWOLFPACKx3745d ago (Edited 3745d ago )

Forza had that many yes but during gameplay it's polygon count dropped to 45000, I'm not sure what gt5 polygon count dropped to during gameplay though edit: gt5 was 500k polygons during photomode

liquidhalos3744d ago

Nope i cant say i feel hurt. Fact is, the game looks beautiful, no amount of rudness on your part could possibly take that away from me. Sorry but its the truth

frostypants3744d ago

But everything outside the cars looked kind of crappy in those games...and still does in GT6/Forza 5.

Jughead34163745d ago

I want this game bad, but I'm getting to the point where I'd rather hear a release date than any other info. It's good that they've made the game better with the extra time though.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

darthv7296d ago

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut8596d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander197296d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff218395d ago (Edited 95d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim96d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno96d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff218395d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 95d ago
Chocoburger96d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai96d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC96d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.
