" Why do we spend all this time and energy collecting pixels that don't exist?"

Because it brings us personal enjoyment. Why do people spend all this time and energy doing most things in life? Same reason. Whether the thing you are doing is real or make believe is irrelevant, the outcome (personal enjoyment is all that matters.

Is that supposed to be Charlie Sheen? Lol.

World of Warcraft was changed to be far more addictive then it used to be. This was then blamed on the casual gamer, so that the 15 minute dungeons and PVP instances would not be blamed on the company.

Everything is 15 minutes or less as that is the "ideal time" for going "Okay.. one more.. but then it'll be my last one". Where before a dungeon lasted an evening and would save itself so you could quit and continue later on, it now was blamed on "Not everybody has the time for ...." as they implemented really lazily developed dungeons.

There is no exploring whatsoever any more, and voicing this opinion in the LFG finder will get you chastised by the addicts. They just runt he same few dungeons over and over again just for the chance of a virtual trinket.

As a WoW player I really find it hard to justify any more, I miss the exploration of say.. Vanilla's Black Rock Depths or Black Rock Spire. I miss the 4 hour games of AV on my Orc. But I'm no longer their target audience I already found "Dailies" a good idea but just implemented terribly.

Sadly the casual gamer got the blame, while they where perfectly content in the game doing things on their own pace and their own way.

The problem with wow is its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo old now they have to change things to keep ppl interested, there are pretty much no new players anymore only resubs or alts, blizz are just trying to cling onto whats left and they are bleeding subs, still another 6 months till next xpac too so they will be losing more and more till then and that means more changes to keep ppl coming back.

WoW was ruined for me when they replaced the early level progression with the stupid "you are the hero of the world" plotlines. It destroyed the immersion and effectively turned it into a single-player game for those levels. They also made it too quick to level up now. They catered to the people that just wanted to get straight to end game raids. In doing so, they ruined the game as a whole. "Getting there" used to be part of the fun...now they treat it as an afterthought. They really need to make some servers vanilla so it's at least an option, but they never will. They're too busy catering to the worst addicts in their member base, coming up with new point-and-click hamster wheels.

If I where to say all my grievances, and yours is one of it, I would still be here tomorrow :P.

But it also has it's good points, just like you said "You are the hero!" and Popculture references made it harder to keep playing.
