Project CARS Brands Hatch first look gameplay - max settings

VVV: "We've seen plenty of photogenic screenshots showing off Project CARS' dashing good looks, but can this level of finesse really live up in-game? The answer to that is a resounding yes - providing you have a capable PC at this stage, of course.

Seen here running on maximum settings, its visual prowess is instantly apparent when watching Project CARS in motion, from the buttery-smooth frame rate to the dazzling details such as the leaves swirling across the track."

GarrusVakarian3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

Max settings gameplay!!!........off-screen, lol.

I love how the dashboard goes out of focus when you are turning a corner or overtaking someone, that is a really nice touch. I look forward to this on my PS4.

FragMnTagM3749d ago

Exactly what I was thinking.

The one in the bottom left corner was off screen sure, but the main video (inside helmet camera) was recorded using fraps, so it is not offscreen.

FRAPS videos are always bad quality.

@MasterCornholio

The thing is, reading it back i can fully understand how someone can see that end sentence as being a sly, petty, fanboy remark, but i really didn't mean it like that.

But some people are just incredibly bitter (and jealous?
), such as morepowerofgreen. Sucks for them.

MasterCornholio3749d ago

In my opinion any normal person can see that your comment isn't one of a blind fanboy. But there are some mentally ill posters who will twist that into a comment by a rabid sony fanboy. MorePowerOfGreen and thezeldadoth are examples of people who always troll to defend their respective systems and they will twist sensible comments like yours into comments by a rabid Sony fanboy. But I agree with you sucks to be them because since they are so closed minded they will never enjoy all that gaming has to offer them.

Bdub20003749d ago

What I really liked about it was the 10 post argument afterwards. Pure entertainment from an innocent comment.

webeblazing3749d ago

i didnt see anything wrong with your comment even tho your one of the biggest sony fanboy on this site and its funny you have the most bubbles.

DoesUs3749d ago

I'll get on PC and PS4 as I love flag waving, and don't want to play on XB1 version given it will be the lesser of the 3.

Justindark3749d ago

you mean 4 its on wii u too

Lior3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

won't look as good or perform as good on the consoles, I will be playing at 1440p with my gtx 780 sli config.

FriedGoat3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

Not sure if that congratulations is sarcasm. Let him be happy with his choice. At least the PC is finally getting something decent that isn't a console port, MMO, ARPG or indie game under 200mb.

I remember back in the 90's early 2000's when the PC was the place to be. Dues Ex, Half Life the quakes, Unreal tournament and all the brilliant exclusives the PC used to get. These days it's pretty boring, infact I don't know why I still upgrade my PC. Well, I do, for the once in a blue moon when a game like this comes along.

But hey, there's always an advantage to owning multiple systems eh.

PSN-JeRzYzFyNeSt3749d ago

won't sell as good on PC compared to consoles so the better experience will be on consoles online. 1080p 60fps is just fine

ambientFLIER3749d ago

Of course that's sarcasm. Like anyone cares about the 1440P that he keeps mentioning.

webeblazing3748d ago

he said it wont sell as well as it would on consoles when pc gamers was the main ones funding the game lmao. they even put enough fund for it can be on consoles. how so gamers put it on this site, no games sell well unless its an exclusive.

MaximusPrime_3749d ago

impressive. this could be next racing game to play on my PS4

OverPaperSkies3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

Looks better than driveclub.

Edit - I will have more fun at 60 Fps at 1440p.

GarrusVakarian3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

In your opinion.

I think i will have more fun with Driveclub.

@MaximusPrime

Yeah, i'll be preordering both too, both looks awesome. But Porject cars = sim mood, Driveclub = arcade mood. Is Driveclb arcade/sim or just arcade? I can;t imagine it being 100% arcade like PGR for example.

MaximusPrime_3749d ago

i agree with you on that one. i preordered DriveClub and may preorder Project Cars.

I reckon i will be spending more time on DriveClub than Project Cars

DigitalRaptor3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

DriveClub is an unusual hybrid. They focus on incredible detail, in both cars and environment, and also vehicle damage, as well as a day/night cycle.

However, the gameplay is not sim, as far as I can tell. I think that is the vibe they are going for, and I can't wait for it.

GarrusVakarian3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

"Edit - I will have more fun at 60 Fps at 1440p."

Haha, good for you man! The higher the number the more fun a game is, i had no idea about that. PGR4 was 720p? and 30fps on the 360 and i can guarantee you it will still be more fun now than many new racing games.

Fun depends on the game itself primarily. If a game isn't fun, making the res and framerate higher won't help that.

Can't say im surprised by your comment, though. Typical PC elitist snob response.

H0RSE3749d ago

"Haha, good for you man! The higher the number the more fun a game is, i had no idea about that."

- Apparently a good number of PS4 fans have the same mindset, going by all the "PS4 is more powerful" talk, and how apparently it results in multiplats someone being better games to plays, through having slightly better visuals...

As for racing games, I just want a new Burnout...

GarrusVakarian3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

@HORSE

"Apparently a good number of PS4 fans have the same mindset, going by all the "PS4 is more powerful" talk, and how apparently it results in multiplats someone being better games to plays"

He was specifically talking about FUN. When ive heard people talking about the PS4's multiplats, i never once saw someone say that the increased power would make them more fun, just look better. So i don't see how your comparison is relevant here.

For example, someone playing BF4 on the X1 at 720p is still going to have as much fun as someone playing at 900p on the PS4 or 1080p+ on the PC. Whereas the increased resolution of the PS4 and PC versions will make the game LOOK better, that's just fact.

If he said "this game will look better at 1440p @60fps", i wouldn't have responded. But to say it's going to more fun is silly.

H0RSE3749d ago

You're arguing semantics... Yes, there are those who specifically point out how one will look better than another, but the overall mindset was that one game will *BE* a better game to play due to higher resolution and/or framerate.

I understand context and "reading between the lines." A person can look at a number of comments form the PS4 camp on this issue, and clearly see that are implying that game overall is going to be a better game (including fun) based off nothing more than framerate and resolution.

Don't talk to me like I'm completely making this s*** up. Like the intent of the community was always very specific in its meaning, that games will merely look better, not be better games...

Besides, even if their comments were targeted specifically at the visual quality of the games, their comments were still belittling and childish towards the xbox community - kinda like those "PC elitist snobs" you mentioned, so I don't really know what you're trying to justify?

"Oh no, Horse, you're completely wrong. They weren't being a'holes in that aspect, they were being a'holes in this totally other aspect - you're argument is completely irrelevant..."

GarrusVakarian3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

"I understand context and "reading between the lines." "

I don't think you do understand context, because his comment and my reply was strictly about FUN, then you proceed to spout 5 paragraphs of off topic nonsense and assumptions about PS fanboy mindsets lol.

"but the overall mindset was that one game will *BE* a better game to play due to higher resolution and/or framerate"

I agree, but that's not what we are talking about here, we are talking about whether or not higher numbers = more fun which in my opinion, isn't always true. You can carry on making the points you are making, but it will be a one man debate.

H0RSE3749d ago

"I don't think you do understand context, because his comment and my reply was strictly about FUN, then you proceed to spout 5 paragraphs of off topic nonsense and assumptions about PS fanboy mindsets lol."

- Which is exactly what the debate was about - your comment about how better looking games don't equate to funner games, and my argument about how the Sony community implied that very thing. You are trying to argue specifics, while using

--

"He was specifically talking about FUN. When ive heard people talking about the PS4's multiplats, i never once saw someone say that the increased power would make them more fun, just look better. So i don't see how your comparison is relevant here."

You are tying to argue specifics, yet use non-specific comments by the community as your guide. You say you never heard people specifically exclaim that better graphics makes a game more fun, yet they never exclaimed that they didn't either. It was just a bunch of rhetoric about how the games will be "better" on PS4 - a purposely vague statement, to infer anything from purely cosmetics, to actual gameplay and overall enjoyment. Somehow you interpreted those comments to to mean specifically one thing, conveniently, the one thing that supports your argument...

The truth is that Sony proponents were having a field day gloating about the PS4's "superior hardware" and the announcements that many games were going to perform or look better on PS4 compared to X1. They had no concern for specifics - they were taking every thing they could to "one up" xbox, which is why I posted my original comment, because I found it rather ironic how you could state something like this:

"Haha, good for you man! The higher the number the more fun a game is, i had no idea about that. PGR4 was 720p? and 30fps on the 360 and i can guarantee you it will still be more fun now than many new racing games."

- in the wake of this very mindset taking place daily within the "console war." Like you were completely oblivious to this eerily similar behavior happening. But you were able to sidestep me pointing this out by injecting your, "they were taking about visuals only, not how fun game would be," defense, when largely, the community made no such effort to differentiate between the 2.

webeblazing3749d ago

@HORSE
no matter what you say hes not going to try to understand. he is one of the biggest sony fanboys on this site, and thats telling you something seeing how much bubbles he's got.

PaperSkies, Reported as trolling / off topic

grailly3749d ago

The cars are really pretty, but the work on the environment isn't all that great. The start of that track is quite pretty but then the rest of it is just boring ugly trees.

sorane3749d ago

It's based on real life so if the real life track has boring trees so will the game. If you want tornadoes or mountains that spit out dragons in the background you'll have to go play arcade racers like nfs rivals or drive club.

Dee_913749d ago

lmao
Im curious. What additional "work on the environment" needs to be done?
If you think the track needs to be more pretty how about you fly out to UK and put pretty little lights and glitter on the trees, and blow up some huge hello kitty balloons while your at it.

Graphic sluts just see "maxed out settings" and they come flocking with their judgmental goggles on.Doubt you even play racing sims.

Knushwood Butt3748d ago

@ sorane

Which is a bit ironic seen as we are all supposed to be blown away by the eye candy in this video.

ZodTheRipper3749d ago (Edited 3749d ago )

I prefer Drive Clubs visuals.

They are more subtle and elegant
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
But the physics will probably suck (if they didn't change them since Gamescom)

H0RSE3749d ago

In other words, it looks more like a video game, and there's nothing wrong with that. You seem to be talking more about aesthetics than graphics.

That being said, there is merit to what paperskies is saying. It's like when people refuse to watch black and white or dated movies because they "look old." They literally cannot enjoy the movie(s) based on this factor. Although we are hardly comparing black and white movies to HD film here, the same mindset applies. Hell, I'm sure some of you here can't back to play older games due to them looking too dated.

The guy narrating this video said that on ps4, there will be no other racing game than this one. Guess he never heard of driveclub.

MaximusPrime_3749d ago

i think he may be comparing it with other racing simulator games such as Forza and Gran Turismo.

3749d ago
weekev153748d ago

He actually then goes on to state "of course there will be other racing games but no other racing simulators as yet"

driveclub is not a driving simulator, although I think its graphics will still make it a competitor with this game.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

Jin_Sakai524d ago

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox524d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade522d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole521d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow523d ago (Edited 523d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow522d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad522d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist522d ago (Edited 522d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace522d ago (Edited 522d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad521d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim522d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

Original Project CARS creator trying to re-hire EA team

Ian Bell, the founder of Slightly Mad Studios, is aiming to hire former Project CARS employees to work on his upcoming GTR Revival project.

Sgt_Slaughter525d ago

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.

EA dropping Project CARS

From GI.biz: "EA is dropping Project CARS, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

The Slightly Mad Studios-developed series was launched in 2015, with EA confirming today that it has made the decision to "stop further development and investment" in the franchise.

The announcement was made internally and it's unclear at this stage to which extent staff could be affected. EA said that employees working on Project CARS will be moved into "suitable" roles "wherever [they] can.""

Terry_B527d ago

Typical for EA. They buy studios that created nice games..and are sooner or later destroying them and move the people to work on the old same 5+ EA series.

italiangamer527d ago

They will put the developers on the 1000th Need for Speed for the rest of their entire careers, just like Criterion.

SurgicalMenace527d ago

To be fair, it's not EAs fault it falls directly on the consumer. Everytime these companies choose to drop a series they're met with backlash though the gamers didn't support said series enough to justify its continuation. Attempting to paint every company as evil all because they're in it to succeed is ridiculous. They have to make money just like each of us typing in this section. If a job wasn't supporting you well you'd quit and find a new one, this is the same mentality concerning series.

TheColbertinator527d ago

@SurgicalMenace

No it is their fault. They don't listen to fans and burn the franchise to the ground by introducing elements that nobody wanted instead of increasing support for said respected franchises.

I order a steak, they make a steak. 1st sale
I order a steak again, they vomit on my steak and charge me more for it. No sale.

EA in a nutshell.

Tapani526d ago

@TheColbinator Well how do you think they make the billions then?

Their fans ARE buying their games. You are just not their focus group, and I can guarantee their customer insights team is more thorough and detailed in their reaearch than any N4G commentors’ opinion on the matter. Otherwise EA would not exist as a company, and they’d be bankrupt.

deleted527d ago

The one that still hurts the most though was Criterion w the Burnout series. Acquired Criterion's tech for their own existing IP, then shut em down. It's basically parasitic. I sure do miss Burnout's crash mode!

Hofstaderman527d ago

Sounds eerily similar to another large unnamed corporation hey. I believe some EA bigwigs shifted to that company back in the day, would explain the similarities.

rlow1526d ago

Must be talking about Sony

peppeaccardo527d ago

and instead they come out with that piece of shit of Need for Speed which looks like an Anna & Barbera cartoon. C'mon .... PC2 was my go to game for VR racing and the first one i played for tens of hours. i was so lookiing forward to PC4 after that failure of PC3 ... what a shame EA, they are bombing all the good games and stick to the garbage ones. EA when you think you have reached maximum of disappointment they top it off with style .... screw them!

SurgicalMenace527d ago

Need for Speed continues to sell so why would they get rid of what's producing what they need to maintain stability?

EazyC527d ago

What they did to this series was idiotic. The premise was great -- a sim/simcade game that GENUINELY got developed in line with its community. There is a huge gap in the market for this...I mean, PD hasn't listened to fans at all over the last year with regard to simple Gran Turismo 7 tweaks. Sim racing fans are screaming for a title where they actually give a shit about their users.

Project Cars 2 was genuinely on to something, it just needed some refinement. But instead they followed up by selling off to EA with a braindead GRID clone with Project Cars 3. Again...idiotic.

SurgicalMenace527d ago

Well since you're the authority on properly managing a million dollar company, why don't you just call them to let them know of your divine wisdom?

Hardcore sim racers are the ones who are competing acrossed the globe, no company in their right mind would focus on a forever moving casual market. They have to focus on those dedicated to supporting their efforts. Notice how you're speaking from a perspective of self opposed to the collective. Perhaps they sold out because they, like us, needed the money knowing that they could reinvest it into something new. PC was a decent racer but very few people mainlined it over GT or Forza.

EazyC527d ago

I'm not a divine authority but I notice a pattern where these huge corporations turn completely tone deaf of what the "average fan" wants.

vallencer526d ago

Hate to break it to you but project cars 3 was published by Bandai in 2020. EA didn't buy codemasters, which owned slightly mad studios, until 2021. Either way the sales were super poor for the game and it's not surprising EA would just drop the game. BUT it still sucks because it's one less sim racing game on the market. Especially because the first 2 were really good.

Tzuno527d ago

and focuses more on cartoon network games
