Tantalus Media starting work on “AAA next-gen title” this month, Wii U mentioned

Tantalus Media, developer of Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, is starting work on a “AAA next-gen title” sometime this month. The news comes from a job posting added to the studio’s website just a few weeks ago. While the listing doesn’t offer much in the way of details, Wii or Wii U development experience is mentioned as a desirable trait.

"The developer’s best performing title was the 2007 girl’s horse riding simulator Pony Friends for the Nintendo DS which sold more than 1 million copies, making Pony Friends the largest-selling single-format game developed in Australia."
-Wikipedia

Not to sure if I'll get too excited for what they are going to work on. Probably will most likely be another kids game.

Now I feel somewhat stupid for my first commment... lol. Well, acording to Dromble.com (I can't trust it completely, but it's the best I got), they're partly responsible in the ports for Mass Effect 3 and Deus Ex for Wii U, helping Straight Right on the process.

http://www.dromble.com/2014...

I dobut this information, but it could be something different than a pony game... I hope so.

EDIT: Giant Bomb has this information on Straight Right:
http://www.giantbomb.com/st...

It states they are sister companies, and occupy the same bulding, so cooperation among both studios is plausible. Maybe they'll help Straight Right in their Wii U project?

EDIT 2: Nintendo Life expanded on their article about this story... Straight Right takes care of hardcore-directed games, while Tantalus does... something else. It looks they won't work on the same project... T.T

Well they actually did a phenomenal job porting ME3 to wii u, if you look at framerate comparisons the wii u is level with the 360 and ahead of the ps3. And that was at launch too. I think they have a good understanding of the hardware...

“AAA next-gen title” doesn't sound like a kiddy game to me

Unless its Alices Adentures in Adventureland I totally agree with you.

Looking at the history of AAA games on WiiU do you reckon it will be Bioshock Infinite or Tomb Raider?

Would be typical to get a late port of a game like that but could also be fairly awesome if Gamepad is integrated correctly.

I am curious to see what means "AAA" for them...

wonderfulmonkeyman3758d ago

As long as it isn't another poorly done port,i think I'll give them a chance.

Concertoine3758d ago

ME3 is one of the best wii u ports. It's pretty much level with the other consoles in terms of performance, and with no split frames or anything.

I admire your positive outlook, but lets be honest; compared to the full collection of the series which came out around the same time for everything but the Wii U, ME3U is a poor substitute.
You don't get the same experience from a mere comic as you do from actually playing through the whole series and experiencing the moments that led up to each crucial choice.
That's what i meant when i said the port was"poorly done".
Its not a good substitute for the collection of all 3 games no matter how well optimized it was.

Concertoine3758d ago

...It's a port of one game though. You can't shame the team for EA's poor decision to release the trilogy right after the already late addition of ME3 to wii u. Hell, i give them points for TRYING to explain the first 2 games for newcomers.
"Its not a good substitute for the collection of all 3 games no matter how well optimized it was."
You can read the title of the game right? Mass Effect 3? Its not meant to be the entire series, and it's not meant to "substitute" it either. By definition, mass effect 3 is a good port to wii u. It runs great and looks great. Obviously as a cohesive trilogy it lacks the same punch, but that's not the team's fault and they did everything they could to make up for that.

bu..but the Wii U has no 3rd party support ;)
