Battlefield 4 1080p on AMD A10-7800 APU!

Kleptic3762d ago

1920 x 1080 on medium settings at ~40 fps for single player...at least thats what the stage demo showed at Kaveri's announcement last month...

mantle will help, i'm sure...but...that has been delayed to who knows when (they say january, but they already promised december.......)

if Kaveri matches Richland's price point (~$150), its a great bargain...its more or less a Xbox One's apu in overall performance...similar GPU, and FAR higher IPC performance out of the steamroller core'd cpu, at double the frequency (albeit with 4 fewer cores)...

but, sadly, its still very far from a properly built gaming PC...definitely an affordable entry into the low side of mid-range territory, though...

just a weird spot right now...PC gaming still has considerably more overhead and problematic optimization compared to consoles...it takes more horsepower to do the same amount of work in rendering...Mantle is slated to 'fix' that, but its not proven...and more importantly...not here yet...so we'll see...

kevnb3762d ago

that overhead is mostly on the cpu side, the consoles both have a very weak cpu so I would be looking more a the gpu performance. ps4 is around a 7850, which is a fantastic mainstream card even today, its better than what most pc gamers have.

Kleptic3762d ago

^i agree...this apu has a 'better' cpu than that of the consoles, but it has to in order to run a desktop...

The kaveri uses a '77xx' gpu from what i remember...under that of the PS4...more in line with the xbox one iirc...

@Kleptic

I saw a more consistent 1080p @ 30 ~ 35fps Medium settings (consistenly stayed there, with a high of 41, and a low of 26).

By comparison the PS4 and XBO versions are High settings for both, but 900p @ 50 - 60 fps (PS4), and 720p @ 50 - 60 fps (XBO).

An impressive feat for PC APU's, but not quite XBO yet. From what I remember these APU's are just under 1TFLOP, and closer to the original HD 7770 GPU (XBO is basically an under-clocked 7790 / R7 260).

To be worth it the A10 needs to retail for $150, or else it's cheaper and more powerful to get a FX 4000 CPU and a HD 7790 ($160 w. rebates).

But as long as you game on 720p / 900p / and 1080p this little APU, should be a nice entry gaming rig for around $400 - $500 (remember APU's require the fastest memory for the best performance).

@kevnb

the cpu is definitely the weak point of the consoles. The 7850 can run BF4 in 1080p with high settings at 60fps with a decent CPU, so either the PS4's cpu is holding it back or DICE isn't quite expert with the PS4 sdk yet

Mantle update incoming for 1080p 60fps on atleast high settings?

50/50 at this point. Would be a big WOW if they were able to pull it off.

Nafon3761d ago

mantle would increase performance, but not by that much.

Nafon3761d ago

Don't forget that you'll need high speed RAM to get the best performance out of these APUs. But right now, the price gap between 1600mhz and 2400mhz ram isn't all that much.

LAWSON723760d ago (Edited 3760d ago )

That's great because it is not like the majority of us can buy a GPU that comes with it since they are $100+MSRP on anything better than a R9 280x. The only choice right now is Nvidia which is just weird. At least last month I managed to get an Asus GTX 760 for only $195 on Newegg. I will probably sell it in 2-3 months though because I plan to upgrade to a QHD display sometime this year.

Do these Kaveri APUs got any BF4 benchmarks yet?

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot752d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250751d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface751d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop751d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno751d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel752d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps751d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888751d ago (Edited 751d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33751d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888751d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH751d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

There's a bunch of great shooters on gamepass; both legacy and new.

A recommendation I have is a work in progress preview title called Anacrusis. It's a lot of fun, and has a cool aesthetic.
