PlayStation Support Offers Hundreds of Apologies to Disgruntled Users for PSN Problems

Sony's PSN had quite a few issues in the past few days, from outages to heavy latency, mostly due to the heavy traffic coming with the Holidays.

The PlayStation official support Twitter took it in stride and started apologizing to the disgruntled users, a lot.

Based the 600,000 units Sony is supplying every week, there's 4.1 million PS4 owners right now. Sony, themselves didn't even expect to sell this much so yes there's gonna be latency.

I find it funny how PSN goes down like XBOX 360 and suddenly it is December 29th, 2008 all over again. Only difference is which side is saying what.

See Sony didn't expect to have more than 5 million PS4's up and running until march of 2014. They projected sales of only 2.4 million consoles to be sold by January 1st 2014. What Sony did not expect was this surplus of 400K over their projected install base of new users jacking on just after Christmas. So Sony has servers ample for 2.4 million PS4 users... There are over 2.9M PS4's roughly connecting online right now. VG Charts is lagging behind.

@Mikeslemonade. It's not 4.1 million. Not yet. We all would know if the PS4 reached 4.1 million units sold because AMD would have touted their chipsets in the PS4 to have shipped that many. As of now AMD has shipped 5 million chipsets to both XBOX One and PS4 unit manufacturing facilities.

No technology is perfect. I've had PSN issues, along with Xbox Live on the 360 issues. So does this means they are perfect? Hell no. The issue is, which one is going to try to help you without trying to get you to upgrade to their new system! This is my issue that I had with 360 live support. Don't try to sell me the Xbox One because I don't want it. I just needed my 360 live account fix!

I say this and I don't say it to make fun of those affected but, I've NEVER had a problem with the PSN network. I've never been locked out of it due to maintenance or had issues while playing games online. The only issue I have ever had with PSN is when it got hacked 3 years ago(?), thats it.

Right now I am downloading a game along with the patch and both are downloading at a rate of 3mbs, it helps I have a 50mbs connection though ;). PSN is great for me.

It's real good they sorted things out. This holiday season really affected both Sony and Nintendo real bad when it came to online services, which is a good sign but just misfortune for those who don't understand because they're new to gaming.

To claim it is beyond Sony's control is ridiculous. Of course it is within Sony's control, just like it is with almost any other company.

Hickups happen with all providers, but some more than others and it seems PSN is the one that has more issues cropping up, constant down for maintenance and the only one of the big three (Sony, Nintendo, and MS) to officially been massively hacked and leaked details of millions.

That said, I remember when XBL had problems for over a week due to the massive influx of users on Halo 3. MS gave us a free game for that. Generally it has been good since though.

it's not unacceptable, but pretty, PRETTY weird that Nintendo get to have the same problem.( at least , as far I know, they haven't had that problem like, ever )

All 3 companies will get to handle that kind of issues,
but one of the things that MS bragged about ( last gen ) was having the BEST online functionality , out of the the others, but this new gen, I believe they're pretty much tied.

I'm from UK & have had no PSN issues since end of November beginning of December. Been online all this weekend with the free weekend trial of KZ & not had a single problem although I can imagine how much more strain this free trial could of put on the network.

Still I can understand that people are angry if they are having issues now that they are paying for the service. I know to an extent its fairly early in at least its current payment service but the service itself has been around for a long time & now that we are paying for it we expect absolutely no issues.

If people are paying for a service & not getting it then their entitled not to pay for it. That being said nothings perfect & a few hours here & there are perfectly understandable but if this has been going on for days for some people that is completely unacceptable.

The only issue I had was when it released day 1 here in the states. I live in NY and for like the first 2-3hrs I couldnt connect to my PSN account after that I havent had any problems. It probably has to do with the influx of new updates and consoles being heavily dumped into the mix its bound to happen during the launch window times. Not only do you have more PS+ members probably downloading new games and other content but more updates from new systems causing server instability in certain regions. I am sure the problems will be ironed out within next month they haven't affected my gaming, but sorry to those who have been affected.

When PSN was free, you really had nothing to complain about. Now that we pay its unacceptable as it should be. And that goes for all services not just PSN.

Hell, whether you pay or not, EVERY service is succeptible to issues, unexpected downtime, and yes, even hacks. Paying for a service doesn't mean it'll never have problems. ESPECIALLY when a large influx of new users is added.

Well, you know what my latest gripe is....

both my DS4's left thumbsticks have begun to peel rubber. Not quite to the plastic, like many have posted videos of on youtube, but it looks like I'll probably have to send em in within the next couple months. (and doing so will undoubtably force me to buy a third DS4 - BAH)

I have the same issue, but only for my left stick. There seems to be a super, super thin material that makes up the textured surface of the sticks. My right stick looks and feels fine but my left has started to wear down to the smooth rubber underneath.....it's weird because i am someone who takes REALLY good care of my things (i used a toothbrush to clean the gap in the handles on the 360 controller for years lol).

I hope Sony take note of this and fix it. I hold my controller very softly also, and i press the sticks very softly too....always have so i have no idea why they wear down so quickly.

Personally I wonder if it has anything to do with BF4 control layout, having forward and sprint on L3 really puts an additional pressure on that thumbstick

Most FPS games I've played have sprint on L3, COD is another.

MAG on PS3 was another, I played that so much that a small groove was forming at the base of the left stick. It also left a whitish powder from where it was wearing away.

I've got the same problem as well. Left thumbstick has peeled off & L1 is sticking when pressed which is another reoccurring issue happening to people. I've had to buy a replacement while I send it back to ShopTo as they've agreed to replace it.

This seems to be the PS4's biggest complaint at the moment so I'm sure Sony know about it.

Note:Don;t go through the hassle of opening the whole controller just find a small enough screw driver to pop off the L1.

Thanks man, although I've heard a lot of people have had the same issue I've not had time to look into it. Although it shouldn't happen in the first place it's good to know there's a potential fix for it.

Seriously, you people don't know about bandwidth limits? Steam hardly ever goes down and it went down hard with this year's free Left for Dead multiplayer. It has been averaging about 5 million logons during peak and hit 8 million, took it down hard.

People should be looking more at how history is being made with video game consoles and bandwidth needs. Most just look at the video game console hardware and don't think about this vast, huge infrastructure that connects them all together. Huge and vast, but not huge, vast or fast enough yet.

In 8 years, my PSN has had an issue when it was hacked, and I've seen maintenance about 4 times.....in 8 years

The idea that PSN is an unstable, unreliable, broken community is just not true.
