PlayStation Support Offers Hundreds of Apologies to Disgruntled Users for PSN Problems

Sony's PSN had quite a few issues in the past few days, from outages to heavy latency, mostly due to the heavy traffic coming with the Holidays.

The PlayStation official support Twitter took it in stride and started apologizing to the disgruntled users, a lot.

See Sony knowledges these issues and try to fix them, so does Nintendo and fortunately Microsoft as well

So enjoy boxes all of u

mikeslemonade3761d ago

Based the 600,000 units Sony is supplying every week, there's 4.1 million PS4 owners right now. Sony, themselves didn't even expect to sell this much so yes there's gonna be latency.

Mister_Dawg3761d ago

Should have had the servers in place to handle the extra traffic.
Sony aren't noobs.

MrPerfect8133761d ago

If you build it and expect it to sell, then you better have the servers in place already to support it. That goes for everyone.

mikeslemonade3761d ago

Such newbie comments above me lol..

I guess y'all never played any flagship online game before. Almost every online game has issues from the start. Even the highly touted XBL has issues from time to time.

harrisk9543761d ago

@mikeslemonade

Sony's goal was to sell 3 million by the end of the calendar year and 5 million PS4s by March (the end of their fiscal year). So, I disagree that "Sony, themselves, didn't even expect to sell this much."

Gamer6663761d ago

That is BS.

They knew what was coming...

Anywhere with PS4 pre-orders has sold out within minutes or hours since July. They can't say they didn't know it was coming...

Giul_Xainx3761d ago (Edited 3761d ago )

I find it funny how PSN goes down like XBOX 360 and suddenly it is December 29th, 2008 all over again. Only difference is which side is saying what.

See Sony didn't expect to have more than 5 million PS4's up and running until march of 2014. They projected sales of only 2.4 million consoles to be sold by January 1st 2014. What Sony did not expect was this surplus of 400K over their projected install base of new users jacking on just after Christmas. So Sony has servers ample for 2.4 million PS4 users... There are over 2.9M PS4's roughly connecting online right now. VG Charts is lagging behind.

@Harris 954... 3 million? No it was originally 2.4 million back at e3 2013..

@Mikeslemonade. It's not 4.1 million. Not yet. We all would know if the PS4 reached 4.1 million units sold because AMD would have touted their chipsets in the PS4 to have shipped that many. As of now AMD has shipped 5 million chipsets to both XBOX One and PS4 unit manufacturing facilities.

No technology is perfect. I've had PSN issues, along with Xbox Live on the 360 issues. So does this means they are perfect? Hell no. The issue is, which one is going to try to help you without trying to get you to upgrade to their new system! This is my issue that I had with 360 live support. Don't try to sell me the Xbox One because I don't want it. I just needed my 360 live account fix!

kreate3762d ago

I wasn't affected at all but I'll take some more free games if Sony gonna give any out. Or an extension on PS plus.
I'm a cag.

RyuCloudStrife3762d ago

I say this and I don't say it to make fun of those affected but, I've NEVER had a problem with the PSN network. I've never been locked out of it due to maintenance or had issues while playing games online. The only issue I have ever had with PSN is when it got hacked 3 years ago(?), thats it.

Right now I am downloading a game along with the patch and both are downloading at a rate of 3mbs, it helps I have a 50mbs connection though ;). PSN is great for me.

Thatlalala3762d ago

Liar. 3m on a 50m is awful bro.

StoneyYoshi3761d ago (Edited 3761d ago )

i wouldnt say thats awful. but he should be getting more. and he said 2 things were downloading at 3 mbps each. so that would mean it about split it, so hes making 6 mb a sec alltogether. that sounds about right.

Kudos to the people handling that twitter id. Polar opposite to something like the Game(Boxpark) situation.

Summons753762d ago

At least this time we don't have an army of entitled idiots screaming for free stuff despite the situation being beyond Sony's control...

It's real good they sorted things out. This holiday season really affected both Sony and Nintendo real bad when it came to online services, which is a good sign but just misfortune for those who don't understand because they're new to gaming.

Abriael3762d ago

It's not fully sorted everywhere as far as they're saying, but they're working on it.

specialguest3762d ago

Hey! I enjoyed the free stuff haha. Had it not been for the free stuff, I would have never given Infamous a try and become a fan of the series.

SonyKong643761d ago

and what a gem Infamous turned out to be = )

because of that free game, I bought 2 and I've pre ordered 3.

nukeitall3762d ago

To claim it is beyond Sony's control is ridiculous. Of course it is within Sony's control, just like it is with almost any other company.

Hickups happen with all providers, but some more than others and it seems PSN is the one that has more issues cropping up, constant down for maintenance and the only one of the big three (Sony, Nintendo, and MS) to officially been massively hacked and leaked details of millions.

That said, I remember when XBL had problems for over a week due to the massive influx of users on Halo 3. MS gave us a free game for that. Generally it has been good since though.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer8h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke6810h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins9h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled9h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

DarXyde59m ago

I can see your frustration and mostly agree, but modern remakes of games lost eras ago are fine if you ask me.

I don't know how old you are, but I was a kid when the first Medievil came out. It's really for a new generation of gamers more than anything and the industry is at a point now where there is an insane number of current gamers who missed out on those classics.

If we're talking about remakes of The Last of Us or remasters of GTAV, I'm in agreement. Otherwise, the choice to remake games like Final Fantasy VII, Medievil, Parappa, etc. are fair to me. Even PS2 era games being remade would be welcome to me. Often, the tech updates make it worth it.

Knightofelemia9h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde8h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder

InUrFoxHole4h ago

SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM!
But please not like Socom 4

"Darkest Dungeon II" is coming to Playstation consoles on July 15th, 2024

"The Vancouver-based (Canada) indie games developer Red Hook Studios are today very happy and excited to announce that their roguelike /strategy/RPG “Darkest Dungeon II”, is coming to Playstation consoles (PS5 and PS4) via PSN on July 15th, 2024." - Jonas Ek, TGG.

TwoPicklesGood10h ago

Don't sleep on this, it's a great day

Michiel19895h ago

I personally didn't enjoy 2 as much as I did 1. Actually didn't even finish it.
I do praise that they didn't just carbon copy the 1st game and added more of everything, but I think that during the process a lot of what made Darkest Dungeon appealing to put a ton of hours in, was lost.

The new mode does look cool and I will definitely jump back into it and try it out.
