The Edge Awards 2013: Publisher of The Year

3. Ubisoft

Ubisoft was a force across all platforms in 2013, taking risks on curiosities such as Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, cultivating an expensive niche with Rayman Legends, and developing the best of the PS4 and Xbox One launch titles with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, while also investing in mobile. The Division, The Crew and Watch Dogs suggest the creativity will continue into 2014.

2. Sony Computer Entertainment

The Last Of Us and Tearaway set new standards on PS3 and Vita, while releases such as Beyond: Two Souls, Puppeteer and Rain demonstrate Sony’s commendable willingness to take risks even if they might not always pay off.

Congrats to the top three. Well deserved!

hellzsupernova3769d ago

agreed its hard to argue with Nintendos quality thats for sure.

you could mix and match the top 3 they can all make a great case for it.

although i would say next year Ubisoft is going to be putting up a much bigger fight with Watch Dogs, The Crew, The Division, three new ip's big deal for them. All three are looking really impressive. (im sure theres more but those are the three that come to mind.)

Its great to see some of the big publishers taking risks with more varity then the usual shooters etc. Like puppeteer, Beyond two souls, Rain etc

To the people hat disagree'd with nintendo's quality. Care to explain why they're not because I can't see why they wouldn't be up there (I'm serious I actually Want to hear it"

@HurstDarkstar ... I disagreed because of the "you could mix and match the top 3 they can all make a great case for it. " comment.

Sorry but no single publisher can beat this list this year. IF there is one ... try to list it.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
New Super Luigi U
Pikmin 3
Wonderful 101
Lego City Undercover
Super Mario 3D World
Pokemon XY
Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
NES Remix
Wii Fit U
Wii Sports Club

Multiple game of the year caliber games and other high rated games. Nintendo was the best publisher in 2013 bar none ... it's not up for debate.

You disagreed cause you are a Nintendo fanboy. My comment was nothing but positive towards all three companies and you just cannot handle that

Fire emblem, animal crossing, pokemon, pikmen 3, Luigi's mansion, Super Mario 3d land, Link between worlds...

Yeah, Nintendo definitely earned it this year in sheer quality releases alone.

HardcoreDaBoss3769d ago

scott1823769d ago

ritsuka6663769d ago

Mario 3d,zelda,wonderfull 101,pikmin 3, and im pretty sure im forgetting more but that shows how awesome Nintendo is as a game developer in 2013.

NeoTribe3769d ago

Is that why sony and ms are already pretty much caught up in hardware sales after only a month on the market? Yeah, there owning at being owned.

R00bot3768d ago

The Wii U sold 3.06 million in its first month. It's just launch hype.

demonddel3769d ago

Sony and Nintendo should join forces

wonderfulmonkeyman3769d ago

I prefer them separate.
That way, they spur each other on to do better.

Reeze3768d ago

Agreed. However, if they ever did join forces...

*mind explodes*

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg9h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos8h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola4h ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me

Ubisoft's Recent Antics Have Me Fearful For The Sands of Time Remake

Hanzala from eXputer: "With Ubisoft's practices becoming increasingly anti-consumer lately, the destruction of The Sands of Time Remake looks almost inevitable."

Hey Ubi, here's a gun, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

*Ubi takes gun, aims at foot, empties clip*

At this point, only dummies have any hope left for Ubi-junk games.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
