Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Beats Zelda to the Top of Major Japanese Retailer’s Weekly Charts

Like every Monday the major Japanese retail and rental chain Tsutaya released its weekly sales charts, that are usually considered an interesting glimpse on what the Media Create charts will look like on Wednesday, since Tsutaya has a very large number of stores scattered across the whole country.

Surprised ALBW debut at no.2 considering that Zelda isn't that popular in Japan. Final fantasy at no. 1 is expected.

here we go again with dualshockers attempt to downplay Nintendo games sales.

They did the same with SM3DW and it stayed in Top 10 for weeks while Lightning Returns drop out quick.

But FFX is my third favorite FF after VIII and IV.
Just above IX and VI.

Dualshockers is a bit inconsistent in there Tsutaya chart reports. They only report it when there is a Sony game ranking above a Nintendo game. Otherwise they just ignore them.

I said they are inconsistent. We all know the Tsutaya charts are not the be all end all.

- Its not every store in Japan
- Doesn't count digital
- The Media Create and Famitsu ranks are almost always different.

However, as a journalist, if you report the charts one week, you need to report them all weeks. Not just when there is a Sony game ranking higher than the Nintendo game.

Seriously, i don't know why you and your nintendo friends got oversensitive about some chartz. It's like...you treated it as the end of the world if nintendo games doesn't made to the top ten of tsutaya chartz.

It's not even a PlayStation vs Nintendo sales thing.

It's the Japanese gamers' way of teaching ScrewEnix a lesson they will never forget to not sell their souls to the devil and screw the once prestigious franchise forever.

The Japanese know better that Squaresoft is at their very best when they made FF X. They are just reminiscing the glory days of JRPGs that is why this remake is so well received.

Or could it actually be that Zelda's ship has sailed? Istead of some conspiracy theory. Sure Zelda's a well known franchise, but people act like this game has to sell blockbuster numbers every time one is released! Which is warped thinking to begin with. haven't people heard of franchise fatigue before!? It happens to the best of them, and there is always something out there that can potentially take the focus away from certain games, if that wasn't the case why would certain titles hold off release when other big titles release? Simple to avoid watering down their sales.

The thing is its still second on the sales charts, when you're competing with final fantasy in japan you're not going anywhere soon. Also, after verifying on vgchartz, zelda has never been that big in japan.
It's like when people say "oh cod is dying" when ghosts failed to beat the black ops 2's sales records after like 4 straight years of beating their own record sales. That's still one of the best selling games this year.

You do know that the Wii U and 3DS have the highest selling game machines in Japan for the last 3 weeks and that Nintendo consistently Occupies the top spots in game sales right?

Also the year to date sales of the Wii U in Japan exceed the sales in the same time frame for the PS3.

Also, Zelda was never a hugely popular title in Japan. Its popularity is predominantly only in Europe in America.

lol comparing a new game to an HD remaster of a game that was already released in Japan? FFx/x-2 HD will definitely be on the top on media create this week, there is no doubt about it but Zelda I think will stay longer in the charts but the combined sales of FFx/x-2 from the ps3 and Vita(including bundles) will still beat the lifetime sales of the new Zelda game.

you don't know that. no one knows for sure. they could announce at e3 2014 that Final Fantasy XV is taking longer than expected and wont be released until 2018-2019, but to tide us over Motomu Toriyama has been hard at work on the next 2 exciting chapters in the lighting saga. Final fantasy XIII-4, XIII-5

if square enix decides to pull some shit like that on the fans, it will have been 13years since Final Fantasy verses XIII/Final Fantasy XV was original announced. right now it's just been 7years!!! square enix in there infinite wisdom cancelled that game, and only resurrected it once there saw how pissed fans were. that's 7years of square enix mindlessly charging in the wrong direction.
