On Xmas Eve I saw a Wii U and Gamepad tied up in plastic at GameStop. No box no accessories or cable with it.

If it streams the pc image directly to the GamePad, it should be possible to play Steam games on it, as well!

Valve will not be backing this like something like Oculus Rift so I doubt it, not only because the product is not intended for anything except the Wii U and the thing is not even sold seperately. This thing having any use on PC will be done by hackers and modders not developers (except maybe some indie devs) or Valve.

Valve do not have to approve or endorse this at all, it is just a way of displaying and controlling games no IP infringement is being done. It is up to you how you display and control your Steam games. Yes support etc. will be shonky but if it works I am very interested as games like ff7 SHOULD look better on that pad than a 24" monitor.

They only do that if you own a Wii U console and the controller gets damaged or lost.

It's very expensive to manufacture, you know. Besides; there are no games that support 2 Gamepads yet, so there's no incentive for them to do it anyway.

what if nintendo made there own nintendo brand steambox with a game pad & the same disc drive as the wii u. nintendo could have it run the steam OS for third party games, and a custom version of the wii u OS for nintendo games. to do something like this nintendo would have to completely give up the idea of making money off of third party softwear.

And that's why nintendo is irrelevant as far as hardware goes. in 2-3 year there will be an emulator for the console itself and we won't have to deal with low res games. Thwey should just become a software company really.

What makes you think there's going to be an emulator for Wii U? Are you the one building it? PS3 and 360 are nearly 10-years old; and there's yet to be an emulator for them to this day.

Nintendo already said they have no intention to go software-only, and why would they any time soon? They're doing financially better than both the XBOX and PlayStation divisions of MS and Sony. They're sitting on literal billions in the bank - a stash that's growing. And seeing that Wii U sales are rising, due to the release of some big titles - with even more on the way - you think it's going anywhere sometime soon?

LOL sales are not going up thanks to big name titles....They literally have NONE besides Mario 3d world, the 3rd Mario game in a year BTW...And again NO since you delusional Nintendo nuts don't seem to get it, the average consumer doesn't care what is coming down the road. They care about what can they buy RIGHT NOW, and that's not super niche titles like Pikmen 3, Flopderful 101, ports they can get on systems they already own with the Wii U port not being any better than the PS3/360 ports.....Average consumers are going to get Zelda maybe the 3 mario games and then they're done, somehow when Sony and MS have sold half of the Wii U user base I wouldn't say Nintendo is doing outstanding....

You people just don't seem to get they got extremely lucky with the Wii grandma and soccer mom bought one, they are NOT coming back they don't care about the tablet craze or Nintendo in general they wanted the hip wrist flicking bowling game and the exercise board
