Many PSN Users Complaining About Their PSN Friends List Disappearing

Junkie Monkeys: It appears that there are still a couple of issues going on with the PlayStation Network, one of the problems is the ability to see the PSN friends list.

Yupp. Noticed this but didnt think anything of it. It also sent a notification saying "PSN is busy."

Utalkin2me3765d ago

I can still play multiplayer but can not access anything else.

bradfh3765d ago

It's the playstation network going down. It's was off and on all this month. The psn service should be better for what we pay for or give us something for this headache.

guitarded773765d ago

It was gone for me, but is back as of a few minutes ago. It was just on PS4 though (for me). It was fine on PS3 and Vita for me. Now all are working again.

I'm still not getting ANY in game trophy notifications on my PS4 though, and my PS4 trophies don't update to Facebook. Works fine on my PS3 and Vita though.

Giul_Xainx3765d ago

Keep working out the bugs for us.

LeCreuset3765d ago

@Giul_Xainx

Please stop repeating something you heard someone else say, because you don't know what you're talking about. It's not a bug causing problems. It's a sudden increase in traffic causing the problems. So we'll keep enjoying our systems for probably about a year before you buy yours at the same price, only to realize when that next blockbuster hit comes, that has everyone jumping online, that you'll be experiencing the same issues.

kreate3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

I read the article. and it seems like another
epic failing article with no details.

as soon as I saw the title yesterday I logged onto psn with no problems. checked my friends list. checked the playstation store. checked youtube, Netflix, etc.

I logged on today just to double check.

didn't find any problems.

if this is a ps4 specific problem, or a region specific problem, than that needs to be mentioned somewhere which I don't see unless someone edited something after im writing this comment.

I realy don't understand some of the users.
I bet a week later, if I told ppl on twitter:

"hey guys psn is down for the new years"

almost everyone would believe and go on about it and start arguing over nothing.

*here is the source that the article mentions

"social media sites like Twitter, complaining that their PSN friends are gone"

someone on twitter mentioned their psn friends are gone? now there is a article about that? wtf?

DeadlyFire3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

I think its region specific. Likely high volume PS4/PS3/PSVita purchasers slugging down the network. It should recover in a week or so at most from the Christmas buckle.

@krete
Welcome to news world of 2013 every remote hint of negativity or slightly possible rumor lands on a website from any source possible.

thorstein3764d ago

The Christmas Crunch people. I bought mine launch day and had similar problems because so many people were accessing PSN. Then we saw a similar outcome in Europe when it launched there.

Christmas Noobs abounded and of course we saw a taxing of the network again. Things will settle. But you have to think about the entire continents of North America and Europe being "off" for two days with their new Xmas toys and you get a crunch.

MWong3764d ago

Same here was out for a few minutes I restarted my PS4 and everything popped right back up. I haven't had any PSN issues until yesterday.

TRGMatt3764d ago

@kreate

Yup...I had my PSN friends list disappear on me a few days ago. It happened. And then it popped back on, all by itself, about an hour later.

It's no cause for alarm. I don't know what caused it and don't really care. Some kind of glitch in the system. Nothing to lose sleep over, people :)

DOMination-3764d ago

Online down. Only on psn!

kreate3764d ago

@trgmatt

friends list disappearing is nothing new. its been happening from time to time since the launch of the ps3.

u just have to reboot ur ps3 or play a game for a hour or re-sign in. and ur psn friends list shows up again.

that doesn't make this article any much better.
if u read it, this is not even a article.

its just someone making a comment about someone else's comment that was mentioned in twitter.

which makes this piece the most epic failing piece on n4g.

but here's ppl complaining about all sorts of non-existing issues related to psn.

the article only mentions about a friends list disappearing, not that psn is down or anything.

joab7773765d ago

Its been a sign the last few days that psn isn't working but I logged on dcuo just fine. All that isn't working is my friends list.

thekhurg3765d ago

I can't log on DC online. You're lucky. Getting tired of this shit to be honest. Past two days have been a complete nightmare for PSN on my end.

Cha0tik3765d ago

@thekhurg take it back or sell it then. They are coming from a free multiplayer model and this caused a weak network. Now that they are charging for PSN it will take time before it will ever become comparable to the stability of XBL after having so many new users.

Kingthrash3603765d ago

xbl on xb1 kinda sucks too i hear.

USA0073765d ago

@Kingthrash360 Haven't had a problem with Internet yet on XB1. 2-3 times so far I've had trouble logging on or doing things on PS4.

The trouble with XB1 is that a bunch of simple features that should be there (and are there on 360) have been left out, making doing certain tasks a pain and others completely impossible.

thekhurg3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

@Azuske

WTF are you fanboying on about? I've had my PS4 since launch it would be impossible to take it back. Also what kind of idiot would suggest to someone they take a console back because that individual is unhappy about one specific aspect of the console over the past couple days?

Get a better defensive response, "take it back" or "sell it" will never properly apply to someone that is specifically wanting a feature to be fixed.

Cha0tik3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

@thekhurg not fanboying... just saying. If you're unhappy enough to complain then take it back. Instead try being patient like everyone else (including myself). All I see is complaining on N4G. It's a flood between fanboys and just straight up complaining. I'm far from a fanboy. When one thing doesn't work guess what I do? I play my PC or I play my Vita. HELL even play the PS4 on Single Player. I don't hop on the internet complaining. Now if you read the entire thing I explained why they are having issues. The PSN Network has grown at an incredible rate because of the success of the PS4. They need time to improve the service. A fanboy would have said "It's not that bad". They have done what I expect any service to do. Take it to the internet and explain what the problem is so I'll be aware that they are working on it. I expect the same for my PC games and my Xbox games. Let me know what the problem is so I'll know that I'm not left in the dark.

It's maintenance... you can never see your friends list during a maint. period

nunley333764d ago

That must be a new PS4 thing because I've been through a many maintenance on PS3. The only things I couldn't do is go into the store, Home, account management.

Cha0tik3764d ago

@nunley33 it is a new PS4 thing. It does one of two things... it says "Sony Computer Entertainment Network is Busy" or it just gives you an error message when trying to view your Friends list. I've already spoke with AskPlaystation on Twitter and they confirmed that it's unexpected maintenance meaning that there was a problem but they are working on it.

dale_denton3765d ago

@bradfh you give you something like bioshock infinite and DmC for free this month? something like that for your headache?

MikeGdaGod3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

i've been having problems as well...i have to completely turn off my ps4 and restart it to view my friends list....doesn't affect ps store or live from ps....but i've had some issues syncing/viewing trophies

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3765d ago

LMAO.. only the Sony fanboy can spin this so good. "Noticed it but didn't think anything of it."

So someone notice that their friends list is gone.. missing. Done for. And yet they didn't think much of it.

My butt.

If what has gone down with PSN this Christmas on Xbox Live.. N4G and other well known sites would be raising hell about it. Most of them wouldn't have an Xbox or be affected, yet they would be so upset about it and N4G every top story would be about how Xbox Live is down, and how on Xbox Live the friends list has disappeared and whatever else.

Classic here though. Oh,.. I noticed my friends list was gone.. but who cares!

The_Troll_Whisperer3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

When PSN was breached in 2011, every single gaming site reported the hell out of it, even sites that aren't gaming: CNN, NBC, MSNBC, NY Times, AP, Yahoo! News, etc.

You've been posting things on N4G that go along the lines of: ''N4G is pro-Sony'', yet you are still here :S

Get out if that's your opinion. Or better yet, keep posting things like that, because i'll just be the 38th person who blocks so i'm not affected by your hypocritical comments.

I have spoken.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3764d ago

@the troll birther...

I still come here because there is still Xbox news. Keep your head buried in the sand though and pretend it's not pro Sony here. I like the underdog odds.

Kinect camera stupid idea, spying and games suck!

Eye toy camera... cool idea, give the games a chance and some are kinda cool!

rainslacker3764d ago (Edited 3764d ago )

A couple years ago, when I used MSN Messenger a lot, there was a time for about a month, where I would log onto the program and my contacts would not appear. Logging out and back on, or restarting the program did not fix the problem.

At the time, I didn't not think anything of it, and just considered it a network issue, or a bug in the program that would get fixed. I never tried to find out what caused the issue because it was pretty intermittent. After a while it just seemed to work fine again.

Isn't it possible, that in this scenario, that many people thought the exact same thing? Only those completely inexperienced with networks or the programs that use them would automatically think that there is a major issue that needs to be addressed.

Only a fan boy tries to call out hypocrisy on such a thing. Most of the people here aren't even bringing MS into it.

Multiplayer doesn't work fine. My friend wanted to play Borderlands 2 on psn recently and I couldn't connect to him because it said that he wasn't on my friends list (which he was). We had to find a workaround by adding another one of our friends so we could all play together.

It's annoying...

I find it absolutely unfathomable that no one has written an article complaining about psn being down for the past 2 days.

Usually xbox and ps fans are at each others throats. This would be fuel. Though, i think it should be news worthy, since every little negative thing about XBOX gets an article approved.

2v13765d ago

i dont know whats wrong with your psn connection but i just played bf4 about 5 hrs ago and played yesterday too

ifistbrowni3765d ago (Edited 3765d ago )

@2v1, Idk what i find more impressive, you're playing bf4 without it crashing or you're actually online. Are you on ps3 or ps4? Even sony have acknowledged that ps4 is having a lot of online issues right now. Ps3 isn't having any issues (apart from the friends list thing).

I can link you to gaming forums where ppl are complaining about it. But, im sure you scrolled through the comments and saw im not the only one "reporting" this.

Yet, on n4g it goes un-reported that the ps4 is having these issues for the past 2 days even though plenty of users are experiencing the issues.

If you're on ps4, consider yourself lucky.

694d ago
Tacoboto694d ago (Edited 694d ago )

Sony really hates the players, demonstrated by an onslaught of anti-consumer moves - from PS+ Cloud Save restrictions, enforced DualSense on-console (despite input flexibility on Remote Play), no DLC Support for PS3 PS+ titles, upgrade fees on not just cross-gen titles but also now on their new PS+ service, to things like this.

Only Nintendo out-snubs Sony on treatment of their players.

King_Noctis694d ago

This I have to agree. Nintendo is the worst when it comes to consumer-friendly moves, and now Sony is coming so close.

I fully agree that Nintendo cares less about its fans and stuff, but can we look at each company for what they’re doing not others? Yeah I’m irritated at Nintendo for more or less ignoring drift, limited releases like Mario 3D all stars etc, but guess what when I’m mad at Sony for something I’m not going to keep bringing it up, it’s not going to change the fact that I still can’t transfer my ps1 games.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Sony did this. It's one more thing to push people towards CFW, and then that's basically priming people to pirate. Why would they take away a feature? Why do companies continue to punish the loyal, paying customers? It boggles the mind.

PlayStation Network Currently Generates Over $14 Billion In Sales

PlayStation Network currently generates over a staggering $14 billion in digital sales.

MastaMold698d ago (Edited 698d ago )

Yea with this type of revenue could people start to realize and drop the topic of "Sony needs a Game pass. "

TheGreatGazoo30698d ago

That is what all the smart business people are saying "subscription models are a fad."

Silly gameAr698d ago

@TheGreatGazoo

They also said PS Now was a failure. You think all that money is coming from sub models alone?

Bathyj698d ago

The only industry where people on the losing side think the leaders should follow the losers. Sony's clearly fine doing what they've been doing for 25 years. Selling games like the industry has always done.

Orchard698d ago (Edited 698d ago )

@Bathyj "Sony's clearly fine doing what they've been doing for 25 years. Selling games like the industry has always done."

Gotta future proof. I'm sure Blockbuster folk said the same thing about Netflix when it first came on the scene. Business models and consumer expectations change over time.

SullysCigar698d ago

^ sure Orchard, Blockbuster is one example. Another might be Netflix losing subscribers to the point they're changing their policy and threatening their customers.

Netflix started off as good value, then was amazing as the content was great as well as the price, but now it's expensive compared to it's peers and has lost a load of content to them. Original content is mostly crap now and I'm betting a significant crash in users is coming for them late this year.

My point being? Gamepass and anything Sony may do along those lines may well face the same fate. There's nothing wrong with diversification, but you have to focus on your main money maker and people are lapping up PlayStation traditional model - for good reason.

ABizzel1697d ago

They don't "need GamePass" for financials. They needed the revamp to ensure consumer engagement, loyalty, and market share didn't shift in favor of Xbox due to the potential short-term / long-term success of GamePass.

This is why we have the new PS+. They don't need a direct GamePass competitor, they simply needed an easy to get into and well-marketed subscription service that offers a library of games for the more casual consumer since the core fanbase actually buys games on PS.

Godmars290697d ago

Though, aren't they getting a Game Pass. Just that theirs wont include day one major releases.

MrNinosan697d ago

@Godmars290
They had it for years, way before Gamepass was a thing.

Obscure_Observer697d ago

"Yea with this type of revenue could people start to realize and drop the topic of "Sony needs a Game pass"

Well, whether Sony needs a "Game Pass" I can´t tell but, I´m certain they can´t allow themselves to stay idle and not react to Xbox´s recent advances either. According to Newzoo´s latest report, Microsoft´s year-on-year growth is +9,6% vs Sony -2,3% vs Nintendo +1,9%.

https://venturebeat.com/wp-...

Also once the Activision/Blizzard acquisition is completed, Xbox is expected to become the second biggest company in gaming, right behind Tecent.

https://venturebeat.com/wp-...

https://www.gamesindustry.b...

That´s why Sony´s future investments will be more focused on subscription services, GaaS, Multiplatform, PC and Mobile. There are also rumors of a PS Plus launcher for PC coming soon.

Die hard PS fans might hate the direction that Sony is apparently following under Yoshida (CEO) and Ryan by making PS games and services "less exclusive". But inteligent and reasonable PS fans knows that Sony must do what they have to do if they intent to survive trillion dollar companies like Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft while continue and deliver high quality game and services.

“Gotta future proof. I'm sure Blockbuster folk said the same thing about Netflix when it first came on the scene. Business models and consumer expectations change over time.”

The difference here is overall convenience. You had to drive to the store and browse then purchase get a game/movie from them and drive home. You have free access from your house to browse and purchase on PS Network. If someone really wants a game and it is of quality and has great reviews they will buy it. Blockbuster lost to internet convenience, not pricing.

Over time subscription services get so large that the fees have to increase, making the value decrease…and as we have seen with sub services quality decreases also. Not everyone wants another monthly bill in their budget for 2-3 games a year they really want to play. A reliance on a sub service weens once you sift through the initial 3-6 months of library access. I know for myself that my gamepass subscription was much more amazing when I first got my series x than it is now 1 year later. At this point I’m just waiting for exclusives…which I wouldn’t mind purchasing without a monthly script because it’s a few games a year.

BehindTheRows697d ago

He knows that, he’s just on the “opposing view” because it’s PlayStation. If Xbox generated this much, and more than PlayStation, it’d be a whole different tune.

Truth is Sony has the winning model and should keep doing exactly what has won them generation(s).

In fluffy's voice "DAMN"

PlayStation is universal brand. It sells in every country and the brand recognition is just on another level. I think it was like 2018 or 2019 when PlayStation generated more money than Xbox and Nintendo combined

MastaMold

Sony doesn't need GP because they have a huge library of games from their past generations that people can't wait to play again with trophy support. And they have been the best ever since launch of PS5. Game after game while as a Xbox series X owner I am playing the wait game. HFW, GT7, GOW, TOKYO Ghostwire and rumor has it TLOU remake will release this year too. While Ms have all the resources and not much AAA content

Hopefully 2023 is when Xbox can get on a steady schedule for releasing awesome games. Honestly this is the last straw if anything like this happens again than Phil has to and I do mean has to go. He can't be failing this badly with the amount of resources at his disposal

Aloymetal697d ago

''PlayStation is universal brand. It sells in every country and the brand recognition is just on another level. I think it was like 2018 or 2019 when PlayStation generated more money than Xbox and Nintendo combined''

You're absolutely right with both statements.!
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Eonjay697d ago

I would like to point out that even though is evident that Sony doesn't 'need' GP, they are going to profit very handsomely from their own subscription and they are going to do it without compromising the revenue they get from their first party releases.

Sony Nintendo and Microsoft have worked together to enrich each other. Sony took PSNow, rebranded it to be like GamePass with it's catalog of newer games and then added in Nintendo's retro service. They deserve credit for taking some great aspects of their competitor's programs and making it work for their business.

That's good money!

Playstation Network includes all digital purchases, DLC, MT, the monthly/ yearly fee, PSnow and any other paid service on the network.

120mill PS4 and 20 mill PS5, I'm not surprised.

Lol, why mention they don't need a GP service when they are actually doing a similar service come June. I would take that to mean they see more $$ coming from it.

I would surmises the other 2 systems generate in the billions for their digital services as well.

SullysCigar698d ago

"why mention they don't need a GP service"

Because they don't. It's called diversification. They're aiming to offer choices and the best of all worlds. To suggest they 'need' it, though, when they're taking profits like that would be plain wrong.

thesoftware730698d ago

Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?

Subscriptions services are what all gaming associated brands are doing, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Ubisoft, EA, MS, Nintendo, Apple, and even Netflix.

Please stop with the "they are diversifying", spin nonsense. They all are, if you can purchase games in a multiple way on

thesoftware730697d ago

Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?

Subscription services are what all gaming associated brands are doing, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Ubisoft, EA, MS, Nintendo, Apple, and even Netflix.

Please stop with the "they are diversifying", spin to make them sound different nonsense. They all are diversifying by definition, if you can purchase games and services in multiple ways on a platform then they are all giving diversifying options lol. Sony just like the rest of them sees money to be made.

You can buy, MS games on PC, Xbox, in a store, digitally or sub to GP...see diversifying. You can buy Nintendo games on Mobile, in a store, digitally or you can sub NSO..see diversifying. You can buy games, and 1000 different apps on IOS and android or you can sub and get them...diversifying. Sny is no different, their games selling well means nothing, Subs are industry standard and they are just now bolstering that specific dept. because GP and others popularity can't and shouldn't be ignored.

No need to make them sound like they are doing something special, they are simply moving in a well laid out direction as well.

****Sorry for the double post, had to tend to something***

SullysCigar697d ago

^ "Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?"

Well, you, when you said, "Lol, why mention they don't need a GP service", but it's no big deal.

By the same token, nowhere did I claim Sony is doing something different, nor did i employ spin. I'm sorry, I might not be the fight you're looking for. I'm just pointing out the situation, not comparing them to any other company.

GamingSinceForever698d ago

What Game Pass does is offer all 1st party and some 3rd party games day one. So no Sony doesn’t need to copy that. That is what was meant when people said that.

thesoftware730697d ago

The 14 billion is not from games alone, it is generated through ALL service sales and usage on the network, even movie streaming, HBO Max, Netflix, Spotify, 3rd party services in general, and yes the gaming division.

I get that it's making money, but the whole "no need for GP-like service", when they are indeed doing a GP-like service is pure worship and a pointless thing to say. Offering the 1st party games on day one has nothing to do with this, technically none of them have to do that, they just chose different directions with that one specific thing.

697d ago Replies(1)
GamingSinceForever697d ago

Sony doesn’t need a GP like service, but that isn’t to say one wouldn’t be nice to have.

Anyone with common sense would love to have the option of playing Playstation games on day one at a monthly cost, however Sony in their current position doesn’t need to go there because they are still making a nice profit selling games at full price.

So no it isn’t worship, it is just stating the facts. They feel that giving away their games would dilute the quality.

They had PSNow for years, they're just rebranding and cleaning it a bit.

I wonder how much of the money generated comes from their movie company?

Separate division of Sony, so none.

@DeeeezNuuuts They sell their movies on psn don't they?

P_Bomb696d ago

They stopped selling movies/tv on PSN a while back.

Because the service they are releasing isn’t meant to compete with GamePass.
