Lara Croft: Reflections Review | ArcadeSushi

AS - "On the heels of Square Enix’s iOS release of the original Tomb Raider comes an entirely new Lara Croft adventure. Since it’s the holidays, a leisurely card game or two isn’t a bad way to pass the time, and Lara Croft: Reflections is banking on our love of the beloved genre. Horrible first impressions are usually a deal breaker for some, and if you’re not in the Christmas spirit this app may bring out your inner Scrooge."

Square Enix

<sigh>

I would never wish for a company to go bankrupt but with Square or even Capcom I honestly wouldn't mind

Dark113776d ago

I don't see the problem with releasing a card game for iOS
they're already working on Next-Gen Tomb Raider.

-Foxtrot3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

It's not the point, they are focusing way too much on mobile games and if you let them continue it's going to get worse....they've even said they want to focus more on mobile gaming because of how much money it brings in these days

If you don't stop something from getting out of hand now then it's too late.

DLC the start of this gen is a prime example, it got way out of hand and by the time people realised how much it was hurting most games it was too late to change anything. I can see Square Enix start to get carried away with mobile gaming and the company will get worse and worse.

Seriously people keep saying things like

"Oh it's fine, don't worry about it, your over reacting blah blah blah" but when it's too late they start complaining when it's their own fault they didn't do something sooner. You know what Square Enix is like, this is not something we should let go.

KonsoruMasuta3776d ago

Calm down, it just a side thing. They are a multi-plat company after all. They're still working on the next gen version of Tomb Raider along with the sequel.

I never understood people getting mad just because a company makes a few games for mobile devices.as long as they keep making games for consoles and dedicated handheld, I couldn't care less. I'm most certainly not going to wish they go bankrupt.

KonsoruMasuta3776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

@Foxrot, people are saying you're reacting because you are. Square Enix was releasing cell phone games before anyone had the idea of an iPad. Nobody panicked back in 2002, when Square Enix started making mobile games, and nobody should panick now.

-Foxtrot3776d ago

I'm not, it's a pointless thing to waste time, money and resources in.

Square might of been making them back in 2002 but they weren't as big as they are now. Now they've set their sights on something which can make them a lot of money or so they think they will milk the hell out of it and from there it will get worse and worse and worse.

I'd rather see the money they waste on funding studios for these mobiles games go to the big studios making the AAA games of that franchise.

jay23776d ago

But they need money for next gen dev, I hate DLC and phones too, I want to pay £40 get the game, play £40 get my next game not these bloody £40 then £15+ DLC then £40 again, So I fully agree with you, but if it's the only way they can get the money to make it, it's what we've got to go through.

ShinMaster3775d ago

How much money and resources could they possibly be wasting? The profit will be a lot bigger and could help fund development of bigger games, which they are currently working on.

this might actually feel like a TR game, the recent installment felt like they were trying to change what Lara Croft is. I hope the next TR game goes closer to Lara's roots.

mixelon3776d ago

They kind of had to change what Lara is, as she was pretty out of sync with modern sensibilities when it comes to character, design and the target audience. I think they did exactly what they needed to make a foundation where future instalments wont end up being too cornball.

Shes obviously building up to traditional badass Lara in the reboot but even then she'll likely be a much better developed character than OS Lara ever was.

gamer78043776d ago (Edited 3776d ago )

No swimming, Tombs were an afterthought - optional, no real puzzles, a few move boxes type things. I know she has to grow up into who Lara is today though. Way too much focus on shooting people, they flip flopped the formula, used to be about 75% Lara against the world, 25% shooting.
