PlayStation Plus: January Preview

It’s almost time for the New Year, and we’re ready to kick-off 2014 in a big way. January’s Instant Game Collection will offer PlayStation Plus members loads of amazing titles, starting off with a new PlayStation 4 title — Don’t Starve. A wilderness survival game wrapped in a cute art style, you’ll take control of a Gentleman Scientist trying to make his way home from a mysterious place. Be warned – this is one of those games where you’ll die a lot, but if you ever get frustrated, just look at how cute your buddy Chester is and I’m sure everything will be okay.

And 2014 starts off with a bang!

rambi803771d ago

i hope brothers comes first. plus is the best!

ExPresident3771d ago

Bioshock Infinite for PS3 is pretty huge. I got rid of my PS3 when I upgraded to the PS4.

blackblades3771d ago

A stupid choice you made there.

nutcase133771d ago

Why is that a stupid choice (genuine question), i also got rid of mine?

Kryptix3771d ago (Edited 3771d ago )

@nutcase13
I think he means that the PS3 will still get a lot of support for another year or 2, especially with PS Plus still giving out great games after the release of the PS4.

It's more of a stupid choice if you have time to commit to playing those games unless you only got time for one console then the PS4 would be the choice.

Sevir3771d ago

It's pretty stupid because the machine will still very much be supported. Sony already confirmed that more exclusives are coming to ps3 this year. Also considering that the PS4 games haven't gotten it's star games yet. Yes ps4 has some games worth playing but hardly worth selling your PS3 for. If all PS+ is now delivering serious games.

ExPresident3771d ago

Wasn't stupid for me. My statement was for those who either consider getting PS+ and haven't yet, or just simply to show how good the program is. I've been a PS+ subscriber since the day it became available and I love it.

I don't have time for consoles, let alone to game as much as I would like throughout the week. Upgrading to the PS4 was a big deal for me because of what I wanted to play, and while I will miss the current opportunity to play some games, the PS3 would have just been laying around the house.

To each his own, just noting its a great thing for current PS3 owners.

badz1493771d ago

why get rid of the PS3? the PS4 is still incomplete and while the PS3 still pretty much THE BEST multimedia box on the market!

games are still coming and unless you've played ALL the 70+ rated games last gen, PS+ will always have games to offer your PS3 in the coming years!

if you have a Vita, you can use the PS3 as storage for your games you got from PS+ or bought digitally as the memory card is still expensive and games are coming continuously.

I don't know why would anyone just dis their PS3 straight away.

back then i get PS+ just because i'm enjoy the auto update feature and backup store, i kind of lazy ppl so i just want to let my PS3 hanlde all update itself

then before i even realize the games keep coming, lol, belive me, i lost count of how many digital game i have in my digital libary, but who care right, especially when you don't even have time to deal with your backlog

@ ExPresident & nutcase13

I dunno if I would have worded it as blackblades did, but the PS3's will be a valid console for at least another 2 years.

Seeing as the PS4's are not backwards compatible, then the lifespan is indefinate for the PS3's really. The 2 years though, there will be games still being made for only for those consoles(although they may be ported to PS4 later).

For example, Dark Souls 2, which is maybe my most anticipated title isn't even coming to PS4... as of yet anyhow.

Some DLC is still to come for the PS3 as well, like "The Last of Us"

To say it was a stupid choice is jumping the gun, as no one knows your situation but you. Perhaps you have no interest in any of the things I just mentioned. TO each their own.

A good example of a "port" coming to PS4 in January is Tomb Raider. I will pick it up(at full price), because I know it's a good game, and I never played it at all on PS3(so many titles back logged I never got around to buying it).

On a different note(which is the actual topic)... I'm really liking the PS+ membership, as I didn't have it until I got my PS4. Some nice titles in my library already... with more to come.

For BOTH systems. The more the merrier!!!

Merry Christmas all!

Im thinking about selling mine. I want a new phone and dint want to pay for it. My ps4 has games that keep me busy with more coming. I havent even played ac:bf yet. Dark souls and the last of us is the only reason i havent yet. Im not sure if dlc is worth it but demons souls and dark souls are my favorites. I am very sceptical about the game being as good though and dont see any reason they wont do a port.

CrashJones3770d ago

Remember who's developing Dark... also, so many people will be putting thousands of hours into the PS3/360/PC versions.

That aside, I wouldn't be shocked to see it come out for PS4. Maybe a little surprised, but far from shocked.

Being such a fan, I would probably pick it up. Hopefully though we could just upgrade if we own the original(ala AC4)... if it even happens.

I'm just happy Dark Souls 2 is getting closer.

ExPresident3771d ago

Yeah I think he jumped the gun, or just used a poor word. Keeping my PS3 wasn't a real option for me as I just don't have a lot of time to game. I knew why I was getting the PS4 and what I would be playing on it before I got it.

My comment was to note how awesome it is that a game like Bioshock Infinite was included with PS+.

CrashJones3770d ago

I already own Infinate, but I will be getting Brothers and Don't Starve for sure.

I'm amazed at the value they give for the buck, and the fact you can get your library back when you return to + if you leave for a while, is cool as well.

Seems to be an improved online experience from what I've heard(PS4 compared to PS3). I can't compare personally, but I've been having fun with it. It's better then having no sub that's for sure.

TM3333771d ago

I'm living off PSPlus with PS3, PS4, and PSVita. Too many games. Don't even want any more systems. Plus, gotta give my PC a little lovin from time to time.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC4d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos3d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga3d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer4d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6024d ago (Edited 4d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya4d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde4d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP4d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

5 Years Later, Devil May Cry 5 Still Quenches My Hack-And-Slash Thirst Like No Other

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Devil May Cry 5, the latest iteration in the iconic DMC franchise by Capcom, still holds its own as a fantastic hack-and-slash in 2024."

My Xbox And Me Rwview - Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons Remake

Mum's dead, dad’s not too far behind her and it’s left to a couple of brothers to save the day - obviously! Looks like we’re going on an adventure! Brothers, a tale of two sons, is a remake of the original title from Josef Fares - you know, the “F##k the Oscars” guy! The original launched back in 2013 and in the 11 years since then, the original game has become a cult classic!
