I agree, it's almost like he's craving attention everyday. And I'm certainly not a fan of selling two separate editions of MGS5.

Ratty3770d ago

Craving attention everyday? It's funny the impressions people get.

Let me clear that up for you. He's one of the biggest names in the industry... which is why journalists are constantly interviewing him or making stories of his tweets.

Will I need to have played the other games to understand this one? And why the hell is it being split and released into two parts? Is it because the game isn't big enough for bluray discs? Or they want to make more money? Or maybe something else? Also does this take place after everything from all the previous games, or is it put somewhere awkwardly in the timeline that's going to have strong references to other games that I won't recognise?

...I have a lot of questions

Shuyin3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Ehm, basically yes. At least play MGS3 & Peace Walker. They lay the foundaition of Big Boss' personality. MGS has the most complicated lore of all games, imo. As for it it being split - Kojima said it's being released due to fan request. He wants to give people a taste of what will be in store for The Phantom Pain but because it will take more time to develop, he will give us the prolouge, Ground Zeroes, which is already completed.
I pray to God that we get a METAL GEAR ONLINE 3 beta included with it..

Edit: it takes place after 3, PW and Portable Ops (which btw, until this day, isn't confirmed to be cannon. I, for once, haven't even played it.
After MGSV the timeline goes as follows: MG, MG2: Solid Snake, MGS1, MGS2: Sons of Liberty & MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.

Note: I'm not sure about the first two METAL GEAR games but I am about MGS1 - 4.

Ratty3770d ago

Portable Ops is canon but it's not directed by Hideo Kojima hence why the events that happened in it are not directly referenced in other titles but they did happen.

I don't know why there's such a confusion about it. I'm pretty sure Kojima himself said numerous times MPO is canon.

The first two Metal Gear games are not considered 100% canon anymore. MGS3 retconned some facts from the early games.

That said, your timeline is correct.

deadfrag3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Its obvious Konami wants to make money by releasing the game in two parts,Konami haves the lack of new IPs where to get money.Personaly the delay of Castlevania LOS 2 is going to cost them and they are only surviving due to Pro Evolution Soccer and what Kojima gets out producing.Maybe now with this new engine they actually can make some good games, but i dont have fate since Konami dont invest in new studios or developers, they should buy Mercury Steam and make them first party, the engine powering Castlevania LOS is Mercury Steam own itts not Konami.

Ratty3770d ago

You don't need to have played all of them. Like Shuyin said, MGS3 and PW but personally I'd say that's it.

deadfrag3770d ago

Franly i would like one with the Skull face since he is the main Antagonist in this part of the cannon folder.

frostypants3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

"Cannon folder"? LOL... I'm not even sure that makes sense if you spelled it correctly.

leahcim3770d ago

Since he left Sony (exclusives). He is in downstream just like squenix.

DoctorJones3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Metal Gear hasn't been totally exclusive to Sony for a long time.

EDIT: MGS 4 will probably come to other systems as well eventually.
