My Disappointments Of 2013

Justin from Pixel Gate writes:

I just wrote my picks for Game Of The Year and decided that now would be a good time to formulate a list of some of the most disappointing experiences I had in this past year. Now, please be aware that this doesn’t mean these are horrid games by any means, it just means I didn’t exactly enjoy them as much as I had hoped to.

Dead Space 3 was terrible, I was all excited for it after recently finally playing 1 and 2 and it was just awful

ds3 was a sad day for ds fans like myself...everything about the game was wrong, co-op, story was not scary, & human enemies killed the game

One of my disappointments of the year is the way terrible grammar, like this article, is becoming more and more widespread.

Your concerns have been noted. Commenting on the acutal site will inform the writer however.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast130d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Slender: The Arrival (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "Slender: The Arrival is a frustrating horror game in that it's easy to complement specific elements while disliking the core conceit. I may have found Slender's origins to be flawed from the start, yet I'm also left commending a full-fledged game rising out of creepy pasta threads. If nothing else, it's a sign of earnest appreciation from unexpected source material. But when I feel more legitimate tension from linear sections than repeated trial-and-error collecting bits – i.e. the series' main identity – I can't help but feel something is fundamentally lacking. The 10th Anniversary Update showcases Blue Isle's sedulous care in honoring the past, but it's nevertheless tainted by a game trying to pad out a one-trick pony."

Kind of a shame how quickly this game fell off after it's popularity. It even got a movie faster than any other horror game of the last decade. Still an interesting concept and design for the cryptid.

coolbeans151d ago

True. If there's one takeaway I'll consistently have for Slender Man, as a property, is its rise to prominence from humble origins. I think Amnesia: The Bunker would be a great foundation to look at for new ideas too. There's still hope for him to star in a stellar title, but Blue Isle (or another dev) has to look past this incongruent mishmash of templates.

Profchaos151d ago

Was it ever actually good was basically meme worthy from day 1 and resulted in some quick cash in attempts the whole concept felt like it was built off of a early 2000s forward to X number people or X will appear at night and kill you.

coolbeans151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

@Profchaos

Your thoughts on The Eight Pages (freeware game) seem closely aligned with me. Even at the beginning, I found the execution to be flawed. But what I'm arguing is I think someone *could* make a good Slender game. Amnesia: The Bunker can be a good place to look as to how it could be done were he the sole villain.

P_Bomb151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

Overpriced imo. I bought the OG for like $2 lol! No co-op til next year either I believe.

coolbeans151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

An important note: this update is free *if* you bought the OG Steam version before. Not the case for next-gen consoles, sadly.

Review - Slender: The Arrival 10th Anniversary Remaster (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "This brand new 10th anniversary remake of Slender: The Arrival might be an impressive visual overhaul of what was once a cheap-looking horror game, but at its core, it’s still the same janky and frustrating walking simulator released ten years ago. It may be a cult hit in the horror gaming community, but I didn’t find it very scary, nor compelling. I will give Blue Isle Studios credit for showcasing what Unreal 5 can provide to smaller games and teams, but sadly, mechanic-wise, nothing else of importance has been added. If you haven’t liked Slender: The Arrival back then, I doubt this overhaul will convince you otherwise."
