Xbox One’s indie program ID@Xbox is solid, says Nuclear Throne developer Vlambeer, but its parity clause is a real threat to Microsoft’s olive branch of independence. VG247′s Dave Cook chats with Rami Ismail.
You may know Rami Ismail mostly for his previous work as Vlambeer‘s co-founder, but apparently, he’s also a fan of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The attention to detail is astonishingly accurate. Great job to the developer Asobo for taking time to develop something as close to real life as possible down to the details. Some small things looks like nothing, but when combines overall it makes up to something. This is what differs from Good to Great games. Kudos to them.
Today, during the Guerrilla Collective show, ID@Xbox director Chris Charla provided some insight about Microsoft's plans for indie developers and next-gen.
This is critical in getting as many games as possible despite what some say about indie devs. The more the merrier.
During a panel at PDXCon 2019, Microsoft senior director of ID Productions Chris Charla talked about Xbox Game Pass and how games are selected for it.
"Just yesterday Paraxox Interactive announced Crusader Kings III, mentioning that it’ll be on Xbox Game Pass for PC on day one when it releases in 2020"
Nice, not bad for a service that doesn't support the developer.
I just dl and tried Dead Cells and it's seriously some of the best fun I've had with a game.
Tried this service on the PC... unfortunately the dam app was always giving error when starting to download a game.
Never had problems with other PC game launchers (Steam, Epic, Uplay, etc).
Thats obvious. Isnt that what a rental service is. I used to rent movies all the time i never would of bought or seen. Duh
really enjoyed hellblade and Blair witch stories. I never tried hell blade when it was on ps4 mainly due to not being sold on it, but trying it for free + my gold subscription well worth it, amazing game. Blair witch was also a pleasant surprise with a pretty good story.
I'm pretty sure if all Indie developers had an exclusive deal in place to avoid the parity clause, MS would just update the agreement to prevent the loophole from being used.
Hopefully Chris Charla can turn things around for MS on the indie scene.
Chris Charla is doing a great job. Wonder why he was never in charge in the first place?
id@xbox is where every indie need to be..
A very good read. It seems that if MS is to keep taking positive steps, Chris Charla needs to wake up the higher-ups before Microsoft 'push' the majority of indie devs into the arms of Sony.
As much as the parity clause sucks, it would really only affect games that are already far along in development on other platforms...
Subsequent games from affected developers would be more likely to be developed in parallel or ms first, so that developers could maximize potential profits.
I'd like to see ms nix their parity clause and adopt the one Sony is using (games coming later to their platform need additional content), but I don't think it will have a major impact on the long run.
