Hyrule Warriors Announced For The Wii U. Can It Help Save The Wii U?

Rich Drummond of Richie D Rants says:

"We all know the Wii U has struggled. Whether it be in terms of sales, lack of third-party support or the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, to say the Wii U has had it a bit rough would be an understatement. As of very recently though, that is on par to change. Maybe not immediately, but the Wii U has a very bright future ahead of it.

Between titles like Windwaker HD and Super Mario 3D World on the market now and titles like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. coming to the platform in 2014, the Wii U is starting to show a nice burst of life. This was only added to when during today’s (Dec. 18, 2013) Nintendo Direct the game Hyrule Warriors was announced."

Maybe.
It's getting a lot of good feedback from what I've seen. It's something new, but not completely at the same time. Zelda has a lot of fans, and a lot of people recognize the dynasty warrior series.
Depending on how well the game turns out when it's done, I think if done correctly it'll move quite a few units.

The WiiU doesn't need to be saved it is steadily gaining momentum. All the WiiU needs is more games and Nintendo is going to be delivering those come next year. I don't see the WiiU reaching the Wii numbers in sells, but the console will do fine. If Nintendo can deliver on all of the games they have promise for 2014 without delay then they will see a great surge in numbers. The question is what will 2015 and beyond bring for them if they deliver everything promise for 2014.

Yeah, the moment the words "save the Wii U" came before my eyes, I knew I was about to see this wasn't worth my time.

Its always the same. Someone tries to elevate every arbitrary game to supposed system seller status far beyond Nintendo's projected sales or intended purpose for the game just so they can bash it when it doesn't sale as much as they inflated it to themselves and feed off of the negativity the trashy headlines generate.

I'm tired of all of these sites trying to generate negative presumptions for Nintendo, and cash in on it.

The Wii U doesn't need saving, its just needs more games and better promotion. We know it has the games in the making, and they will be here sooner or later. As for Promotion, that's all up to the heads of the company.

Game looks great but this aint a system seller and not gonna make me buy a wiiu.

Metallox3771d ago

For it's own obviously not, but I think it's going to be a nice addition to the library, but nothing more special. Let's say by this way, since it's a Zelda game, it's going to sell quite well in Japan, and since it's a Dynasty Warriors game, perhaps it's not going to perform well in Western countries. Fortunately, it seems that this game can help creating more interest between Western players in the DW series, and and that Japanese players sit again attracted by Zelda games. (Yeah, I know, my spelling it's not good)

Relying on one or two games to "save" a platform is stupid. The sooner we get out of that mindset, the sooner things get better as a great library of games "saves" platforms.

We all don't look back on great consoles like the PS1, PS2, SNES, etc for ONE game.

C'mon people.

JohnnyTower3771d ago

Damn you and your logic! There will be no need of it here. This is the Internet.

NinjaRichParty3771d ago

That's not really what I'm getting at. I'm saying that 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros, Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3 and Windwaker HD will help the Wii U out of its slump.

I'm not saying that these titles will make the Wii U a stellar console, but it sure will give it a nice push out of the hole its been in.

Trago13373771d ago

I think we can agree there. It's nice to have these games in addition to the big heavy hitters.

Also, I was speaking about people bringing the whole "___ will not save the Wii U".

Your article was actually good haha.

Chrischi19883770d ago

That is exactly it, but I can see, how haters are coming and telling us, how we said, "wait till then" or "wait till this game" like we all rely on one single game... Ever single game added to the plattform, will increase the interest of people. Maybe Pikmin, Mario 3D World, Zelda U, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Donkey Kong cant make the system sell as a single game, but together they might do just fine. This is what makes Nintendo special, if in a year from now, somebody would buy a Wii U, he might pick up Pikmin 3 or Mario 3D World, even though it is an older game till then, thats a thing, many other dev studios cant do with their games.

Mario 3D World sold well till now, but it will sell steadily after that, because there will be no new Mario 3D World like title for at least 3 years, probably 4. You all can say milking Mario as much as you want, but as long as it are not the same games, who cares. The gameplay counts and it is always a + if there is some famous character in that game. Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Smash Football, Mario Power Tennis are all super fun games and are hardly the same, just because they feature Mario in it.

I want a regular 3D Zelda dungeon-crawler, not Dynasty Warriors with Zelda's skin.

NinjaRichParty3771d ago

I think this game is a nice addition to the library as whole. If it's a solid game, I won't complain. Plus, do you really want an unfinished Zelda game? I'd rather them take their time and hit us with a polished, fun game! :)

Realplaya3771d ago

This game isn't by the great Anouma. It's by tecmo so we will not have the Zelda developement process impeded.

Software sells hardware.

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds456d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69456d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3456d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese456d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits455d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

shinoff2183456d ago

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

The cool thing about the PS2 chainsaw display was that there was a (kind-of) hidden compartment at the back which was the exact size to hold the PS2 steelbook.

darthv721143d ago

I have that controller but sadly I lost the main cord. And its not something that was anything close to being standard or easy to find.

PrimeVinister1142d ago

One of my friends had it back in the day and I had wondered alout why it had a detachable cord that you could lose.

My friend then said it was so they could manufacture the one unit and then fire its appropriate cord in the appropriate box.

But then we realised each version has a different socket on the unit itself - so there was zero point in it except for collectors to lose the cable.

You know the designers are on r/, gamecollecting, laughing away.

jamesclark19911142d ago

I kept my cord in the "hidden" little brown drawer on the base of the unit.
