not as bad as the 2:1 ratio I thought we'd see but then again this is vg charts so could still be....

trunkswd3775d ago

2 to 1 is impossible right now. Microsoft announced the Xbox One sold 2 million units after 18 days, which is the end of the first week in December. Sony also announced the PS4 has sold 2.1 million units as of December 1.

NewMonday3775d ago

once Sony manage to meet the overwhelming demand the gap should get much bigger, this could take a few months.

Angels37853775d ago

the 2.1 million was NOT as of december 1st

twinspectre3775d ago

to the store, not to the consumer :)

dedicatedtogamers3775d ago

My friends....this is VGCHartz. It goes against both Microsoft's and Sony's own official #s

abzdine3775d ago

i chose the superior hardware

PeaSFor3775d ago

if only Sony was able to flood the shelves with the ps4, its would sell pretty much non-stop.

mikeslemonade3775d ago

It's gonna be 3:2 soon because even though it's Christmas, the rate of people buying X1s will go down. Even the PS3 could not sell that fast at $500.

mewhy323775d ago

They're both selling well. But after all the uninformed get their gifts for Christmas we'll start to see the PS4 pull further and further ahead.

mikeslemonade3775d ago

Yea I have been thinking of this all along. It's the uninformed or xbox fans just buying X1 right now.

JasonKCK3774d ago

Just because the PS4 is sold out online doesn't mean it's sold out. Same goes with the Xbone. If some of you actually walked into a Best Buy or Walmart you would know the truth, they're not sold out.

we're only a month into a new generation, you can't read anything from launch numbers. even if Microsoft had their old policies they would still have sold a lot of consoles during the launch window.

just go and ask Nintendo, Wii U sold like hotcakes on launch, look at it now.

trunkswd3775d ago

While that is true the Xbox One and PS4 both sold more than the Wii U did in its launch. The Wii U sold just over 1 million units when it launched and that is including Japan.

u got owned3775d ago

HMM! i thought PS4 was at 2.4 mil and I think there was an article talking about Xbone hitting 2 mil. What are the real numbers? Vgchartz stop playing with us... :)

trunkswd3775d ago

These figures are for just November.

u got owned3775d ago

meaning this is old news. What's the point then?

xDHAV0K24x3775d ago

still using xbone as a diss? smh...go away

Seraphemz3775d ago

i think that it would have been worse had Xbox kept the DRM. Taking it off saved them, but still caused them to lose a lot of people.

Jaqen_Hghar3775d ago

until January we won't really see the trend. Right now it's just how many they can make.

frostypants3775d ago

Both brands are failing to meet demand, and as a result it is impossible to judge the true gap in that demand.

Muffins12233775d ago

This is merica we talking about, its more than 2:1 for ps4 anywhere else around the world pretty much..

Whiskeyjacked873775d ago

Shouldnt have posted this, xbone fans are going to be really upset.

Eonjay3775d ago

I don't see why. Even when PS4 starts to outsell it by millions. Are they gonna get upset every time they see the sales charts? its not worth it.

Chris123775d ago ShowReplies(3)
JessiePinkmanYo3775d ago

Not really. I own all three. People that get upset are tards. The only people that should really be concerned with charts are stockholders. Unless sales are really abysmal for a console, THEN there's cause for concern amongst gamers. X1 and PS4 are both doing very well. Only concern I have is with the Wii U, but even that, it's my least played console.

AceofStaves3775d ago

+Bubble for that. Well said.

mhunterjr3775d ago

I really don't think xbox fans were expecting the xb1 to outsell, or even keep pace with the ps4 1:1...

That would be wishful thinking based on the price point alone...

Sci0n3775d ago

globally the X1 will never be as popular and right now in the US and europe X1 isn't as popular. Cant wait until the PS4 releases in japan and the surrounding asian countries. It will be 4>1 in a year or two.

It's going to be close especially when Xbox One launches in the other countries

Selling points for Xbox in 2014 in new countries will be

1. Snapping/Kinect
2. Halo 5, Titanfall, Quantum Break
3. Xbox Live dedicated servers/infrastructure

It'll be interesting to see what happens when Microsoft lowers the price even if it's down to $450 that'll make the Xbox One even more appealing

WeAreLegion3775d ago

The countries it already launched in are the only countries it's going to be close in.

Neither of them has launched in Japan.

pyramidshead3775d ago

Agreed. I don't think MS has a chance in Japan as per standard. They'll sell decent amount from the 'new shiny toys!" buyers and the hardcore but inevitably it will drop off.

Ju3775d ago

There is nothing to close for MS in "other" countries. Which ones are those? Japan ain't it. Europe neither, and that it will make a big dent in Asia or South America is an illusion.

The biggest markets have been met, MS is behind everywhere. They are doing quite well in the US - and if they are lucky they can get through this phase riding the the wave of stock shortages until demand goes down after the holidays. Sony still sells - and delivers - more on a global scale than MS - even if this means they fall short in restocking supplies in the US. PS4 is still ahead, but what's more, is, that it sells (more than) 2:1 in Europe and this isn't changing (maybe in favor to Sony, if anything).

For MS it looks like the US is the most important market - they are an US company to begin with; their share holders are American's (mostly?), they balance in US$. They have lower supplies but allocate more to Americas in the hope to catch up there. It's not enough and Sony is keeping the gap and widens it on a global scale.

This is...if those numbers carry at least some kind of truth. The European numbers make kind a sense; but American numbers are weird at best. Maybe that's because of all that release cycles and all...but next gen SW sales kinda totally fell off the roaster which is strange - in Europe SW shows kind of a proportional pattern to HW. US looks random to me.

KonsoruMasuta3775d ago

It will be an even bigger gap when PS4 launches in other countries.

Ricegum3775d ago

I think you're overstating the importance of these games. What if most people who want these games have already made their Xbox One purchase? Also, surely it works the same way with Sony's exclusive games.

HiddenMission3775d ago

You do realize that Sony matched MS with price drops for the PS3 even when it was more expensive to produce...and guess what globally it outsold the 360 for several years straight.

Since these components are modified off the shelf parts Sony will be able to match MS with every price drop. If Think about it $450 for a XB1 or $350 for a PS4. As the price lowers for both it will only really help PS4 to increase the gap especially in international markets.

Just saying it's not like MS will be the only one to drop the price...both companies dropped price several times last gen to stay competitive with each other so why would you think that it would change now.

Dehnus3775d ago

No they can't and neither can MS. It all comes down to what drops in price faster. GDDR5 or DDR3. EDRam also is supposed to scale really well with smaller nodes.

But GDDR5 might just drop like crazy as well.

If the latter happens Sony will be able to drop the price far more then MS can or make more profit. If the former happens MS will be able to drop the price faster or make more profit. It isn't all that black and white as you put it here.

HiddenMission3775d ago

Since tech advances and price drops every 8 to 14 months best believe as all of these RAM prices fall in the next year or so you will see price drops around mid 2015 for both companies.

Remember they are not just competing with each other but tablets have eaten small parts of consumer purchases and that will continue as well as those while few decide to get steam machines.

These other contributing factors will force price drops especially prior to actual parts price drops in anticipation of the RAM or other components becoming cheaper.

An example would be if Sony knew DDR3 was going to drop in price next month and GDDR5 would drop the following month Sony could drop price this month and take a hit in value for market share knowing full well it will balance itself out in a month or two but will allow them to beat MS to the punch.

Do you see what I'm saying. Remember both companies are willing to take small hits if it means larger market share because that means more money in software sales which is where they both make most of their profits from and XBLG or PSN+. They two will be able to help offset the slight loss in revenue.

Just some things to consider.

mhunterjr3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

I doubt Sony would attempt to match a price drop this early in the game. Believe it or not, these companies are in this to make money. They have shareholders that they are responsible to. Lowering the price of your product while you are already having trouble keeping up with demand is not only idiotic, it would cost LOTS of jobs.

Dropping the price wouldn't help their marketshare at all, because it's obvious that at this point their sales are only limited by supply, not demand. Not only would they be leaving money on the table, but it wouldn't help them sell more consoles.

HiddenMission3775d ago

@mhunterjr

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm talking price drops in mid 2015 that's a year and a half which is about when we saw the PS3 drop in price so it's not far fetched.

I know that supply chain issues is whats holding PS4 from selling more but to say price doesn't play a factor is just not true.

If the price of a PS4 was say $300 it would be out of stock well into next Christmas...why because every time it came back into stock it would sell out in mins.

Price in the US is the number one purchasing reason for consumer followed by brand name and then quality. If Sony had a small price tag of $300 it would sell well beyond the PS2 numbers...just saying price is key in the US and for most of the world right now.

Ju3775d ago (Edited 3775d ago )

I don't think RAM will be the deciding factor. I just think the PS4 has in fact a higher savings potential than the Xbo due to it's simpler design and the Sony's skill to be actually very good at cost reducing HW. The PS4's APU is much "leaner" than Xbo's; it should be easier to shrink its APU at least to the same extend or better. Would be my guess, at least.

I think I'd wait for an actual release date for Halo and QB before you officially count them. Especially QB.

WeAreLegion3775d ago

The PS4 was at 2.1 Million two weeks ago.

These XBO numbers are also a week old.

I think we should stop caring about numbers for now. They're both doing well enough for developers to support both.

torchic3775d ago

so Microsoft, Tier 2 countries? when are they getting Xbox Ones? not even a hint of a launch window for them, let alone a launch date but it doesn't matter anyway as PS4 is pretty much the only way to go outside of the US.
