Varia Games has confirmed that ReVeN is being planned for a release on multiple platforms, including PC and Wii U. Described as a sci-fi shooter and 2D platformer game that’s heavily influenced by the Metroid series, ReVeN has players explore the caverns of an atmospheric and mysterious planet called XR-Keres. Lovely!! It's been long since a 2d Metroid, maybe this will satiate my thirst. As I don't have a website, I could not post anything about this game. Hope the game gets on Wii U soon.

BlackWolf3781d ago

Edit: the only thing they need is someone who can make a more original design on the suit... it's a Samus Suit with a few retouches, basically.

Retroman3781d ago

if VAria games can make this why in heck NINTENDO slacking on Contra?? i wanna buy Wii-U not for smash bro. Donky kong only R-type,Gradius would be welcome.

BlackWolf3780d ago

Ummm... I don't think I've grasped what you are trying to say, but both Contra and Gradius are owned by Konami, so Nintendo has nothing to do with those...

Loadedklip3781d ago

Inspired? ... more like cheap knock off.

Killzoner993781d ago

It looks better than any Metroid game.

FANTA11803781d ago

sorry but super METROID looks like it play a million times better than this , and for the a new game the animations looks like trash ..

deafdani3781d ago

I was going to argue against your opinion, but then I saw your comment history and... wow, you're a sad, sad dude.

"Official Reven Alpha Gameplay (Video 2) "

Are people that thick headed ? Anyway I look forward to seeing more of this, its a shame we have to rely on other people to make a Metroid-esk game instead of Nintendo themselves.

Lol someone who calls themselves Killzoner thinks a game with an all grey color palette looks good, it make sense...
(I know the new Killzone is actually colourful)

Just so everyone knows these are only alpha play test levels and not part of the actual game. The development is still very early, they mention in the youtube comments its been worked for only three months so far. Animations and its art work are going to look different and better over time.

I'm always down for Metroid style game so I'm looking forward to this.

tehpees33781d ago

Its nice to see indies being so nice to Nintendo. They must really like Nintendo's policies.

Kamikaze1353781d ago

The background looks like it's part of the foreground @_@

CandyFace3781d ago

I've been following the developers for quite some time now and this game is just getting better and better. Can't wait to see it release.

At Least the ReVeN Devs are Upfront About How Terribly Things are Going

Gary Stott writes: "Morgan justifies this decision by telling us the $33,008 successfully raised through ReVeN's campaign wasn't really enough to make the game, and so Varia had to find another way to bring in money. The answer was Xbridge, on top of a pizza delivery job. Backers must be thrilled to know that Morgan spent $2,500 of ReVeN's funding buying a car so that he could deliver pizzas every weekend."

garyanderson2939d ago

Kickstarter money to buy a car? What the hell?

hay2939d ago

Let me wrap my mind around it. So... They decided 18000 will be enough but 33000 wasn't because surprise taxes which are always there, and then he spend 2500 for a job to earn about 120 bucks a week and this will make him break even in around five to six months?
People take peculiar actions when in stress.

lizard812882938d ago

It amazes me, people forget about taxes....

Ratty2938d ago

IMO thats not even the worst part. The worst thing they did was working on another game while they should have worked on the one people actually funded. This is one reason why I believe devs and gamers alike should stay away from Kickstarter.

Null19802938d ago (Edited 2938d ago )

They are really great guys, I've spoken with them a number of times. The problem is that they are really young and green. They should have had more experience working in the game industry under others before managing a project like this. They hopped right into this fresh out of game design school. Hopefully they can turn this project around. It was looking pretty cool on the latest builds.

Ratty2938d ago

Well, as it was said in the article, at least they're being honest about it. Hopefully, other starting devs will learn from their mistakes. Their game looks good too. I hope it'll be released eventually.

Null19802938d ago (Edited 2938d ago )

Yes, they made some bad decisions. But at least they're honest and trying to set things straight now. At least they didn't take the money and run like some other failed Kickstarters.

They do have a lot of talent. Best wishes to them.

Steam greenlights 50 games including surreal puzzler Niko: Through the Dream

Another month, another fresh batch of Greenlit games.

Valve has announced 50 more titles which have been approved for worldwide distribution via Steam.

The game list includes include Niko: Through the Dream, a puzzle adventure game from Spain-based Studio Paint which ran a successful crowdfunding campaign earlier this year.

Also on the list is Paper Dungeons, a fantasy board game, Rift Rush, a Oculus-based platformer which secured funding last April, and Vendetta Online, a free-to-pay Oculus enabled space MMO (yes, another one).

These games will be making their way to a platform in their own time after the final development has been completed.
