Platinum Games creative director is fed up with Bayonetta 2 port begging.

Platinum Games creative director JP Kellams has revealed on Twitter that he is fed up with Microsoft and Sony gamers requesting that Bayonetta 2 be ported to the Xbox and the PlayStation.

From early reports Nintendo won't make enough money from this and then Platinum games will go 3rd party multiplat again for their next game. I'm guessimg B2 is gonna only sell 80k for the first week and then won't reach 500,000 units in its lifetime. Considering that would be a 1:10 attach ratio for the Wii U right now.

You don't need to boycott Bayonetta 2, it isn't first party Nintendo, and it's on Nintedo's console, so its sales will not be stellar. They will be forced to port to next gen to make up for losses.

Boycotting this game isn't a bad idea, after all Nintendo doesn't own the IP, Sega does, so it's feasible and sane, but if they do I don't think anyone will benefit, Sega wasn't even going to do a second game in the franchise since the first one didn't perform as well as they wanted.

I doubt it'll get a sequel if we boycotted it... Best to support the game in it's current state and hope they bring the franchise on the PS4 and Xbox One later.

Obviously it's clear that fans want it, it would be nuts to not answer the call of fans who got into the franchise WELL AFTER the game launched.

Nobody is paying for a PS4 and XBO port because Nintendo won't put it on a rival platform and Sega can't afford it. Konami clearly didn't want Bayonetta 2 or they would have published it along with Rising. If MS and Sony wanted it they would have done what Nintendo is doing.

Nintendo maybe publishing the game but they don't own diddly squat.

They 0 say it what happens to the IP.

They maybe able to stop a vanilla version appearing on any other console but unless they have a contract saying that there can be no other versions (unlikley as they have no claim on the IP) there is very little standing in the way of a 1.5 version appearing.

However I don't think PG will do anyway as not enough people bought the first. But when you put a decent version on one console which fan base is known to favour FPS. And release an awful version on the console who's fan base are known to favour action games like this.

I don't even think it has anything to do with fans disliking Nintendo. It has more to do with the fact that they're allowing Nintendo to fund this game exclusively, when there are 2+ million Bayonetta fans on PS360, and yet their best selling game on the Wii (that's a gory hack and slash like Bayonetta) was MadWorld and only sold 700k copies on a system with an install base of 100M.

What is Bayonetta 2 going to on the Wii U with a console that has a only 5% of the install base. Those 2+ million Bayonetta fans on PS360 aren't going to buy a Wii U just to play Bayonetta, so it just didn't make sense to get Nintendo to fund the game (even if they funded the entire project) and make it exclusive to Wii U, when you already have around 2 million potential sales for the PS360 or PS4 / XBO.

I think they are just happy they can make the game. I don't think they are upset that a game that normally wouldn't have seen the light of day can now exist even if it sees low sales. @ABizzel1 - the Wii did not have an install base of 100 million when Mad World came out, probably more like half of that.

Secondly, we don't even have a release date for Bayo2. So in like 6-12 months the install base could be increased by a few million. Mario Kart is releasing in the spring. Don't forget how many consoles that game will move. The Wii version sold over 30 million copies.

Nintendo backed Bayonetta 2, because they wanted to get the core gamer back since they lost them with the Wii, we don't know who was willing to fund the game in any form, but we do know Nintendo is funding the game completely which in my eyes means Platinum took the complete buyout for funding, over any partial funding they may have been offered. There's no way in the world you can tell me that Kojima, Capcom, or any other interested party weren't willing to put up the money to at least partially pay to get a 50-50 deal on Bayonetta 2 after seeing it sell 2 million copies (aka $120 million) across the PS360.

They went with the easy option, of compete funding and now you have to sell a game to a fanbase of practically 0, unless your previous fans buy a Wii U. And to a console with a low install which proved countless times isn't the place for Rated M gory games.

The Wii had 73 million consoles sold when MadWorld launched. The Wii sold most of it's consoles within the first 4 years, before it had a drastic drop in the 5th and 6th years, so no it didn't have an install base of 100 million at the time, but even then that means MadWorld had a 0.1% attach rate.

There's no debating that gory hack and slash isn't for the Nintendo audience.

I agree, I don't think they realized, just how upset people would be. I'm getting the impression that all they want to do is make games. But they're saying they couldn't get the funding and Nintendo provided, but look at what happened to MadWorld. I mean it just doesn't make sense to put this type of game on a Nintendo Platform.

The Wonderful 101, I get it (but look at those sales 10k, even Pikmin 3 is struggling at 60k). Viewtiful Joe, I get it. Okami, I get it. Metal Gear Revengance, I get it off name brand alone.

Bayonetta & MadWorld, I just don't get it, and obviously Nintendo fans didn't either when it came to MadWorld and with an even lower install base than when MadWorld released (73m vs less than 5m now) I don't see Bayonetta doing any better for them.

They're great developers, but they need to be bought out by someone who can conduct great business, and get them where they should be.

It's a shame Platinum didn't get enough sales of Bayonetta to justify a multiplatform sequel, but I give Nintendo credit for helping Platinum make the game. I can understand how it would get frustrating to constantly see people asking for a game on their system and knowing that it can't happen, although I would like to think I'd be flattered by the interest for my game.

It seems like Japanese studios have a serious problem with budgeting their games and understanding real-life sales expectations.

On top of that moving exclusively to the Wii U isn't going to help them when the console has less than 5 million sales WW. That means 50% of Wii U owners need to buy the game to match the PS360 sales.

Thankfully I'm covered, since I have a Wii U, but it's still a smack in the face to the PS360 owners especially the PS3 owner who bought the inferior port of the game which still produced the majority of it's sales.

As a developer your heart shouldn't let you do something like that knowing it's not right. I understand it's a business, but it's ALWAYS bad business to piss off your fans especially when they control your income and the success of your product.

That's like a musician saying F@#$ my fans. Your career is pretty much dead, besides sponsorship (in this case Nintendo). However, gamers are fortunately more forgiving then casual listeners of music (so best of luck Platinum).

I didn't allow my pride to get in the way of me getting a PS3 for games like Bayonetta.
Instead of making boycot threats or arguing about it online, I sucked it up, saved up, and got one of the systems the game was developed for.

I did the smart thing, and became a multiplatform gamer, instead of spending my hours online crying about not having Bay 1 and other fantastic games come to the Wii.

I have happily picked up a Wii U for precisely the same reason; games like Bayonetta, X, Smash and The Wonderful 101 amongst many others.

Eventually, I'll have a PS4 as well.

IMO, all the people complaining that it's not on their console of preference, should just save up and go multiplatform.

If they can't justify it or if their pride won't allow it, then I guess the sequel doesn't really matter as much to those "fans" as they claim it does, and their cries of "unfair" should be discarded.

Oh, and IMO, Bay 1 deserved more sales than it got. I dunno why PS360 fans bought so few copies...

The problem that I have with this sentiment, and you aren't the only one to have it, is that the game would not have been made if Nintendo hadn't stepped in. I don't understand how you can feel like you've been slapped in the face by the exclusivity deal because it's the only way the game was going to get made. Nintendo is literally helping fund the creation of the game, I don't begrudge them one bit for wanting to keep it on their platform.

As for the cost of developing a game, it's an industry wide problem - not just Japanese studios. First party studios have somewhat of a security blanket that most third party developers don't. Plus, the cost to produce and market a AAA game has bloated to the point that it's very difficult to make a healthy, sustainable problem. Hopefully, the ease of development for this cycle is much more manageable and even better development tools are created so it takes a lot less effort to make a great looking game. If it continues to take a lot of time and resources to make AAA quality visuals, then the industry will face a serious problem. But I'm getting off topic here...

They probably didn't even meet production cost, it's why games like Tomb Raider can be considered a failure after selling 4 million.

It's great to be able to own all consoles, but in the real world everyone can't afford multiple consoles especially in the beginning of the console generation where most consoles are still full price and $300 - $500.

And in the real world it's hard to justify buying a console for 1 or 2 games, especially considering the Wii U still lack many features that gamers would expect to have after moving on from the PS3 and 360.

Bayonetta sold over 1 million copies on PS3, and almost 1 million on 360. The problem is the PS3 versions was a completely inferior port with framerate drops, muddy graphics, screen tearing, and longer load times which the 360 version didn't have, because the PS3 version was a port made by Sega while Platinum made the game on 360.

That's a slap in the face to your fans, 2 million people bought this game on their console of choice, and more than likely they're upgrading to the successor of their console, and now you're telling them nope if you want to play it buy a Wii U.

It's just a ignorant business mindset, if someone offers you a free deal (Nintendo), but at the cost of alienating the majority of your entire fanbase (Platinum), then that's a deal you should pass on, and look for someone else. Or at least give your fans an explanation on why there was no one else winning to pick or even partially fund the game (as a matter of fact fans start asking Konami / Kojima, Capcom, etc... if Platinum came to them).

Yes Nintendo paid for, and for Nintendo it should be exclusive. But for Platinum that was a stupid thing to do, towards your 2 million fans. If you can't see that then I don't know what else to say to you. They have no Bayonetta fanbase on a Nintendo platform, because the game never released on Wii (although they said it's possible), so why release the sequel to a game only multiplatform gamers could have played, on a console that has an install base of less than 5 million, to an audience who for the most part doesn't enjoy gory games, that only bought 700k copies of the last gory action game you made on Wii which had a 100 million install base, and expect fans to be happy about this. NO. If it's that big of a deal for fans then go find out who Platinum games pitched it to and see why the deals were declined.

Selling 1 million copies of a game is above average for plenty of studios, and a profit for most of their games. Platnium was only going to release Bayonetta on the 360, so what kind of sales did they expect in the first place? Then Sega made a bad port for the PS3 and it still ended up being the best selling version, so again what kind of sales did you expect. Being realistic with your potential sales is something the Japanese (Tomb Raider, and other games) and many other developers seem to struggle with, because they're caught up in what they've made rather than what the market buys. Looking at the sales of similar hack and slash games show the genre show that these games on average sell 1 million copies per console (at least on PS3 and 360). So off the top as a developer and publisher you should be expecting the same sells for your game if it's on par with those other games like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, etc... and budget your balance to $30 million at most since your game is likely to bring in $120 million back in sales (aka 4 times the budget). If you're not thinking like that then that's your fault and you need to hire a financial executive for your team to handle budget and sales expectations.

Selling 2 million of anything at $60 market value should be a success. H#!! even PS3 exclusives that didn't break 500k were still considered a success, because they know how to monitor their budget for the expected sales.

Depends on the deal between Nintendo and Sega. Nintendo put a lot of money into the development of this game and I doubt they would let it slip that easy without sealing some kind of deal.

Also, Sega doesn't care about the series. They were going to let it die, so I doubt they would spend more money porting something that wasn't going to sell well. If I remember correctly, the first game didn't do so well.

What people are forgetting when mentioning that Bayonetta sold 2 million on PS3 + 360 is that 50%+ of those sales were at bargain bin prices. It may have sold a decent amount of copies but it took too long at a price too low for Sega to make much or any profit from the game.

However, Sega should have taken the risk of making Bayonetta 2 on PS3 + 360 (and/or even PS4 + X1) since the fan-base was already established and with 2 million copies sold and however many people buying the game pre-owned it had everything going for it to be a success.

They would've had a few million potential customers but they gave up on the series and Nintendo is giving it a second chance but it will fail miserably on the Wii U thus killing the series forever all because Sega wouldn't take a risk.

It isn't the same case as Rayman Legends; Bay 2 can't be ported.

If you want the game to come to other systems then you're taking some of it's exclusive support and making it an even harder sell. Every time a good exclusive comes around to a Nintendo console the fans on other consoles try to ruin its exclusivity (see Rayman Legends), and hurt the console's sales.

The problem with Bayonetta is that it was never an exclusive to anyone before, it was multi-platform, bi-platform?, and the sequel all of a sudden is an exclusive to a platform it was never on before.
So it's very understandable that a large percentage of the series' fans don't want to get a platform they have no interest in, outside that one single game.

Why aree you talking about the Wii? I'm talking about New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Luigi U on Wii U that are consistent sellers since they came out- and that's a year ago for New Super Mario Bros U. Super Mario 3D World has already sold over 700K copies worldwide in only a few weeks. It will continue to sell well on Wii U just as the other games I've mentioned. Mario Kart 8 will sell the same way in 2014 once it's released.

Bayonetta 2 could sell well on Wii U as it's being pushed by Nintendo and won't have many similar games to compete against. We'll see what kind of push Nintendo gives it in 2014. Some PS3/360 fans of Bayonetta 1 may buy it too especially those who are also Nintendo fans.

Part of the hype around this coming to Wii U is that Nintendo is moving in a different direction by releasing it. That's what gamers want from them and it's a departure from the usual Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda etc. We'll see how it sells but it's in a category pretty much without competition on the Wii U - at least from a 1st party perspective.

The Wii outsold the competition last gen, & Wii-U was rushed into the market to clean up on early sales fast, before the competition came knocking....I don't think Nintendo would have had a hard time convincing Platinum to go exclusive...It's not likely Nintendo have funded development of the game, as Nintendo would never do that, BUT, they may pay for publishing rights, as well as paying for marketing.

I think Platinum made a huge mistake, as they have really limited there sales.....Bayonetta was PS3 & Xbox, & many of those consumers will buy either PS4 or XBone, & will not buy a Wii-U just for Bayonetta 2.
I honestly would prefer Platinum to do a totally new IP, as Bayonetta was awesome, kind of similar to playing the 1st Devil May Cry on PS2...But, like with DMC, the sequels just didn't seem as great, & they became those stale type games that you though, I've been there & done all this, & it was bigger & better & fresher the 1st time. Hope I'm wrong, as it's ONE of the only games I'm looking out for on my Wii-U. My Wii-U will only have a small collection of the very best Nintendo exclusives, & will take a backseat to my PS4...But, it will be there next to it in my tv cabinet.

As I'm led to understand, one of the contributing factors of Platinum Games not porting to the PS3 themselves is due to there being bad blood between the heads of the studio (Hideki Kamiya and others I believe) and Sony. Stating they never intended to have the game moved to Sony's platform in the first place, but instead it was Sega who demanded a multiple release.

If you assume the history between the studio and Sony, it's fair to say the studio most likely didn't even ask Sony to fund the game. I've been trying to look for documented proof of Kamiya's and a few others feelings toward Sony, but it is difficult to track--so it should be considered a rumor.

How many high rank Japanese publishers are there left after Sony? Capcom? The company who liquefied their original studio Clover. Square Enix? A studio who doesn't even spend money on their own IP's. Sega? They just got out of a bad contract with them seeing little success. There is only Nintendo left.

What I don't get as a gamer is why people keep bringing up potential sales figures. Does that matter when you play? Did it matter for B1 that barely sold? That would be one of the best attach rates ever for a game to a platform (excluding games that come with every system, like Wii Sports). Mario 64 (which I think we can agree was fantastic) had about a 1 to 3 rate (1 sale for every 3 N64s). There are fewer than 5 million Wii U's in the wild right now, and this game is supposed to sell 2 million?

Perhaps if they wait and release post-Smash Bros and Mario Kart they will have a bigger install base, but even 1 in 10 is a great attach rate for a game.

Bayonetta 2 was always planned for a 2014 release. It's just that Nintendo revealed it to us back in September 2012 from a Nintendo Direct video that featured a very brief teaser trailer for the game. In January 2013, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the game, and then the first real trailer featuring gameplay footage and a public demo was offered during E3 in June 2013.

We still don't know when exactly Bayonetta 2 will be coming out next year, but Hideki Kamiya said Platinum Games could have enough time to do a port of Bayonetta 1 (if Nintendo allowed it) for Wii U before Bayonetta 2 was released. Since porting a video game generally takes 6-8 months to do, that would seem like Bayonetta 2 wouldn't be ready for release until the second half of 2014.

For the record, Bayonetta 1's development reportedly started in January 2007 and was released in October 2009 for Japan first followed by a January 2010 release overseas.

There's something called EXCLUSIVE TITLES; every system has a few of them. In this case; it came to the other systems because it was a new-IP at the time. It didn't sell all that well, and it's publisher, SEGA lost interest - so it then became dormant. Nintendo saw that as an opportunity to get a "hardcore, AAA, third-party" title on their new system ~ something that MANY people, even a few on this very thread - said that they NEED to do.

I wanted KH3 on my Wii U since I followed the series since 1 and the side stories were played on my Nintendo handhelds, but guess what I got? A HALF ASSED EXCUSE from Square Enix (Which was shown a lie by an INDIE dev) while Microsoft- A company that has NEVER had a KH game on it's consoles is getting the installment of KH3. So those of you complaining about Bayonetta 1 not coming to a Nintendo system prior, Shut your mouth. So guess what I have to do? If I want the game so bad, I Gotta buy a PS4 or One.

OH BUT WAIT- God forbid anyone have to buy a Wii U for a game they want! No fuckin' way man, port that shit. Some of you are hipocrits. I'm kind of confused as to why the game came out on the Wii U to begin with. The subject matter of that game doesn't necessarily jibe with what the Wii U target audience is in my opinion.

I'm going to continue to hope that the game does appear on the XB1 and PS4 but I'm not going to hold my breath. JP Kellams shouldn't get so annoyed though. I'm sure hundreds of devs would kill for this much attention on anything they were working on.

Let me stop you there. While Nintendo certainly has a family audience, it also has parental controls for a reason. Truthfully I prefer AC4 and Deus Ex with the Wii U and its gamepad - because of the gamepad.

If you play a few hardcore games on the Wii U, you quickly discover how much better play can be with the gamepad, even if graphics aren't at PS4 levels

It's time like this, that I feel great about me buying hardware. Bought the Wii U Zelda Bunble last Saturday and I have been enjoying every hour of it! Metroid Prime, Zombie U and Zelda all have a good amount of hours logged in to already. I like taking my gamepad to my bed and playing Zelda at nights. funny how i've read most comments and if one didn't know how N4G is, you would swear there's a good deal of financial big wigs posting about this game that is still under development.

- Game on a system system they will not get
- Game they don't care for but still act like they will get
- IP owned by one 3rd party
- Do they know if nintendo even cares how bad the IP sells, as long as they did go and secure a 3rd party IP?
- The game can be bundled with the console ( i would prefer if they had part as digital download included)
- if the game gets 90%+ positive review, that will be a win for gamers.

People need to understand that platinum was never going to continue the series until Nintendo pretty much funded the whole thing. People should just be thankful that there actually is a sequel coming out instead of yelling at the developers, and who knows maybe there might be a third installment on all platforms later down the road but for now its on the Wii-U for very good reason.
