I'm pretty sure that they sell more units there than in the UK, Germany and France... /s

But yeah, it is important, just like any other European market where they want to sell more than the competitors, but I'd say the UK is the most important, just because last gen it used to be the pretty much only European country in which the 360 dominated (maybe because it's an English-speaking country like the US). So if they can win there in the long run they'll be happier than they are with a country that they've always been successful in, like Portugal.

Portugal is the country where Playstation has its biggest market share but yeah it will never be able to pull the numbers of the countries you've mentioned. Just to give an example in my local area there were 360 on the shelves 2 or 3 years after it launched here in Portugal.

Imalwaysright3789d ago

I meant to say launch 360 on the shelves.

Anything xbox related is gathering dust on shelves across the whole of Europe, not just in Portugal.Only exception is UK, but even there the main reason for xbox360 success was that it launched 1 year earlier than Playstation. Also Microsoft disrespects Europeans by not making most services available for gamers here. Many xbox apps and services only work in the US...as long as this is the case, Xbox will never be really successful in Europe.

i've heard portugal is realy very small market of games ,ubisoft said that and revealed that only 900 copies vere sold in portugal on wiiu and it is aid to be the most smallest market of any game out therre ,but may be sony can be having great market there, i realy dont know.

MK24ever3789d ago

There are 900 WiiUs in Portugal??! That's impressive, no really, it is!
And I don't say that because we are not many, I say that because there really is no interest on Nintendo for the most part, although Nintendo actually has some TV ads now, unlike some years ago.
I'd really love to know how many PS4s were sold in Portugal, I think it would impress many people, the amount of Playstation consoles per 1000 people may be one of the biggest in the world.

JackISbacK3789d ago

ow sorry, buy bad i not mentioned that only 900 copies of splinter cell blacklist were sold on wiiu within 2 months, which is realy low.

fllysurfer3789d ago

Yeah Im pretty sure he meant percentage wise. Of course here in Portugal we are small and few compared to other larger EU countries & markets but we dont get all the pimps and whistles either (in regards to services like Movies and App) , we get shafted there a lot...

As a Portuguese gamer this is very true,Portuguese consumeres have been kinda loyal to Sony for decades not just gaming, since the mid eighties with the sound revolution made by Sony with the walkman, the brand became very popular in our contry, and it endure to this day...

I posessed both sistems(ps3,xbox)and just for an example how other brands dont sell as much, when i bougth my Xbox the cashier was very curious, and said "it´s the very first Xbox i sell in months,if you didn´t whent there(Microsoft division of the store)no one would"

I´ve always felt this as a consumer(the Sony preference by everyone around me)but to see it reconized by the brand it self it´s kinda cool.

There's many reasons why Sony is dominant here (in Portugal), since I was a young boy (I'm 32 now), buying a Nintendo or Sega console was like buying a Ferrari because the prices of the games were just stupidly high, or maybe we were just to poor, it frustrated me because I wanted the original stuff but I could only afford the chinese knock-ofs, which actually played Nintendo games...

So I always felt that Nintendo or even Sega never cared to adjust the prices to our market, and there was never a game dubbed or translated to Portuguese, I hate Zelda (NES) to this day because I couldn't just simple understand what to do or where to go, it was like playing it blinded, Sony (1rst party games) on the other way, not much longer after it was released went to the trouble of putting Portuguese subbs on the games, and some time after they started making the games completly localized, while this for me stopped being important due me knowing English better and better, it made a huge different to a younger audience, who could understand the story of the games, or even a simple thing as the menu, "save game" and "Load Game" means nothing to a young Portuguese kid, so you can see right there how frustrating a game not localized can be.

So we can say Sony respected our country and our language despite we being so few, Nintendo and Sega who were in the Portuguese Market for much longer NEVER cared for us, just like Nintendo still don't cares and Microsoft the same thing. Sony didn't win a country of loyal fans just by accident, they won a country of fans because the respected us and actuality did an effort to help and please the Portuguese gamers.

We still don't have many of the services our neighbor european countries have, but I'm damn sure that if they ever arrive here, it will be by Sony hand, Microsoft and Nintendo just simply ignore us because we are only 10 million ppl.
Now that Brasil is growing very fast I believe some things will change, I just hope we don't end up with PT-BR versions of games...

I agree with you, Sony is the only company who cares gamers and do the games with passion so it can be enjoyed by everyone who want to play games. Sony PS+ service helped a lot of gamers in my country who cannot afford many games due to price. with their service now we have a huge collection to play and its just with only one Game price. Also their Cross buy features and discounts enabled to save even more and the prices of their games are alot less than US sometimes. So, i really love what sony is doing for gamers with this service, their exclusives etc.,

Long Live Sony with Playstation!
