Why The Failure of VGX 2013 Matters

By now if you’ve been looking in the right places you will have seen the critical opinion of Spike TV’s Video Game Awards show, VGX. On Twigger, NeoGAF and a number of other sites, people have been vocal of the general presentation of the awards and their failings.

I really think someone in the industry need to set up a rival show to the VGA's where it would be up to the same kind of professionalism as something like the Oscars or at least the Emmies for example, where developers can get smartly dressed for a show which is about gamers celebrating their hard work they've done over the year.

You could have developer reveals, proper video game music being performed by an orchestra, developer insight to the field, a better judging panel for the awards and even new awards which could focus on certain people in the industry and in the end you could have one last reveal which would end the show with a bang.

You know something like that...someone has to do it because I would love to see what would happen to the VGA's. Surely devs would rather get on board a more professional event then going to the VGA's.

At first the new show would start out small but it would grow over time.

Foxtrot, you have an idealistic vision of what gaming could become. It is still an industry for children however, the most basic proof is how little advertisers are willing to invest in it. It is still a long way from the movie industry.

MightyNoX3789d ago

I'd argue otherwise, it's SEEN as an industry for children BECAUSE of advertisers (The chicken and the egg scenario). Displaying gamers as losers, showcasing the wrong games in pop culture (three people playing Final Fantasy VIII? Wtf?), all served to give gaming a bad stigma of not being 'cool'.
Hollywood has no love for this industry, no greater proof can be found than when Steven Spielberg said videogames suck as a storytelling medium with Don Mattrick nodding his head approvingly.

Who cares how the industry is viewed. We still get great games, and it keeps growing!

Why do need the same status as movies? How does it improve gameplay?

Fallout 4 VGX Announcement Coming On Strong?

Bethesda has yet to confirm Fallout 4 for production despite the huge anticipation and hype shown by the fans. This was the case until yesterday, when a leak image somehow hints that Fallout 4 is in development.

There has been numerous articles based on that same tweet. I refuse to get my hopes up since I do that too much anytime Fallout 4 anything gets rumored/speculated. If anything I'll be shocked if it gets shown at VGA 2014.

nX3449d ago

Shocked is the right word, I wouldn't expect that already. They're certainly not working on last gen platforms and it's still a bit too early for a game like Fallout 4.

Pogmathoin3449d ago

I want this game so bad, but now cynical of anything about it as well now.... Just announce it...

gangsta_red3449d ago

I'm right there with Paytaa. We have been trolled since New Vegas of a Fallout 4. And everytime it never happens. No way am I going to even think that a new fallout is coming. NOPE!

I REFUSE!

*please..please...please be a new Fallout!!*

Roccetarius3449d ago

Probably another hoax like the rest of it was, while Bethesda didn't deny it to use it as free advertisement.

irishyort3449d ago

Definitely wont be an announcement. Bethesda people have even stated there wont be another Fallout anytime soon

Apocalypze3449d ago

Anybody here wants a fallout game for ps vita on the go? Would be amazing!

irishyort3449d ago

@apocalypze dont know why you got the disagrees. I'd frikken love it!

I love Borderlands 2 for my Vita. Cant stop playing it. Fallout on Vita would ruin my free time but i dont care

Basement Dwellers: The gaming community's self-image

A creature of basement-banished isolation, their faces a contorted cross between Jon Heder and two kilos of silly putty, with skin the colour and texture of a peeled achacha. That is what most people will have you believe is an apt description of the average gamer – a being so out of touch with reality that their only escape from the terrors of social interaction is to take refuge in the sweet embrace of a virtual space. Though even more hand-clammily terrifying is the gaming community’s absolute lack of interest in a much needed reconstruction of our self-image.
