PS4 Half a Million Ahead of Xbox One in The US During November, Says Analyst

PlayStation 4 is estimated to have sold around 1.25 million units in the US during November - around half a million more units than the Xbox One, according to predictions made by Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter.

Its widely accepted that MS is going to get trounced by Sony outside the US. The fact that Sony is even leading at all in the US now has to be worrisome to MS. And 500k is a lot!!

Also remember The PS4 has not even launched in Asia.

If this article is taken as valid (more likely valid then not as it seems to fall in line with game sales) then MS is trailing significantly and the gap will only get bigger.

I'm sure that price has a lot to do with that and the early adopters are usually tech savvy too. That means they'd be doing a lot of research on the specs and things of that nature.

In the US, Sony has sold through approximately 1.25 million units could be even more, that would place MS somewhere at 750k for the month in the US, with the most coming out from black Friday weekend!

If MS had sold a million units in one region they'd have trumpeted all ready.
As it stands they haven't, Sony cleared a million in north America, and a 1.1 million in PAL regions.

PS4 have been incredibly hard to find currently, so they'd have sold more if they they could meet demand...

He's not, e.g. he said MS was producing 1 million consoles per month which is in total contradiction with MS own target shipment figures (6.2 m in ten months). Therefore MS was only able to manufacture 1.5 m for launch, and said batch is definitely not sold out. Bet their sales are 1.3 million max, with 850k in the US.

As for Sony they had 2.7 m to cover US and EU launch... Everything seems to have flown from the shelves. They probably allocated a little more in the US than Europe so they wouldn't have to restock for Black Friday... 1.5 for US and 1.2 for EU.

According to this, the gap in the US is more probably around 650k, while in Europe it should be around 800k.

Pachters good. He has alot of insight. He was talking about this on a recent Pach Attack, it's not his job to predict the future, noone will do that 100%, it's his job to give context to allow others to form their predictions.

For instance, he said a while back that the reason digital games are as/more expensive than discs is that retailers would get pissed off at being cut out of the industry. And that's what Sony just said the other day. So he was right in his insight, it's up to you what you do with his context, his guess is as good as anyones when it comes to prognosticating.

Certainly this is quite the reversal in the US. Last gen, we saw the 360 roughly selling double the PS3 in the US while the PS3 cleaned up in the rest of the world. Something like 60% of all 360's sold were sold in the US.

Now it looks like Sony's managed to flip that on it's head in the US. Already, this really is starting to look like it could be a PS2 style blowout worldwide.

Well if an estimated 1.25 million was sold in the US and they are 500k ahead, that places the XBO at roughly 750k in the units that's a 5:3 ratio sell through if you combine what been reported so far, WW numbers for XBO is reportly 1.2 million sold while Sony is 2.1 million that's a near 2:1 ratio! That 4:1 ratio you bring up, was actually for specific regions in Europe.

Keep in mind MS Still hasn't sold out of the 1.5 million it allocated for launch, while Sony has practically sold out, what's more, gamestop in the US has more than 2.3 million PS4s on back order, and Pach already id that Of the 1 million monthly units that being produced by Sony, 50% of them are going to the NA, and of that 50% allocation to NA, which is 500k, 60% of that will go to gamestops because of the cued up demand...

This holiday season Sony has the hottest item to own among the gamers, no amount of excuses will change that, by Dec 31st there will be about 3.2 million units sold world wide, with US and PAL/UK Evenning out at 1.6 million units sold respectively!

Lets step out of the box and play devils advocate. They say in roughly two weeks, give or take a few days at the end of the month, PS4 sold 1.25 million in the USA. The Xbox One sold 750,000 in about one week. So, if we double that to add the extra week, we get 1.50 in the SAME TIME, considering the PS4 released a week earlier. You might think that logic is dumb and perhaps you should, just like your statement is dumb to the rest of us. The systems have been out less than a month and you're already saying sony owns the US? I just realized I can be an analyst and make predictions too.

A couple weeks before the release of the PS4 in the US, there was an article about if the one week difference would make a difference. I personally said, "not in the long run", but I also predicted there would be people saying how MS was a week behind, and that would be why they are behind in sales.

Maybe I should start my own web show or something.

Anyhow, the fact that the X1 couldn't catch up to Sony on Black Friday, despite the PS4 being very hard to find, and the X1 easy to find, is not something that can be spun into a positive. Kudo's to Belking for staying true to trying though. His persistence is impressive at times.

I don't know what's wrong with accepting the fact that the X1 isn't as popular right now, and giving criticisms towards MS in hopes that they can listen and turn things around. I guarantee you that MS doesn't care about the positive hyperbole spin when it comes to sales. Their people are going to be finding ways to sell their system to remain viable regardless of initial sales.

When the PS3 came out, I was quite critical of Sony's methods of marketing, but it didn't mean I disliked them, or felt the PS3 would fail, or that I wanted it to fail. I feel the same way about the X1, although I have a distaste for MS at the moment.

Sony had only sold roughly 87 million PS2's worldwide when the PS3 released. About 40% of all PS2 sales were after the PS3's release. Food for thought.

Sony's user base is down approximately 7 million users from the same time frame in it's life. That's not losing half it's user base. That's losing less than 10% of it. And there is nothing to say that all that 10% of the user base converted to MS.

For the next 6 years there is no telling how many PS3 units Sony will sell. It could easily reach at least 130-140 million. I wouldn't doubt it at all since the PS3 has an amazing line up of exclusive games coming out for it all next year, mostly from 3rd party. It's also looking like the PS3 will become a pretty decent JRPG system if NISA, Atlus, and Namco can manage to localize the tons of them being released over the next couple years for the PS3.

It's possible. It really only takes one or two games to turn everything around. A shift in marketing strategy, and a marketing blitz isn't necessarily a foreign concept to MS in the least.

Don't forget, people tend to have short attention spans, and most of the stuff we talk about now will go by the wayside this time next year.

Sony is riding high on extremely positive vibes and press. All they have to do is keep doing what they're doing to maintain it, and go that extra step to impress the potential customer's expectations and they could have their best generation yet.

MS is coming across and inept, and anti-consumer. They've made strides to look better, but I think many are viewing them skeptically, and there is no doubt that the constant barrage of negative attitudes towards them isn't going unnoticed by those that may not keep up on this stuff, but may look into getting one.

@ rainslacker: The veil over the PS3, after the MASSIVE success of the PS2, wasn't enough to sway the pendulum back in Sony's favor in the 7th generation. Customers are a fickle bunch, especially American consumers. I think the damage has been done to winning the US territory for MS, but they'll be competitive, which is all they can ask for, at this juncture.

I didn't disagree that Sony will remain ahead of MS. I was just stating, as you say, that MS can remain competative, and barring some major upset in corporate structure, will put everything they can into making the X1 the success the 360 was.

Overall, Sony didn't lose much in overall sales this gen. They were down less than 10% on units sold, and made up the deficit of consoles sold compared to the 360 due to having the clout they gained in the PS2 days.

Sony started off rough, but they came through because they realized what made them so popular in the first place. They took that to a whole new level with the PS4 reveal and the months leading up to release. They also show no signs of slowing down in this mentality any time soon. You see their people talking and communicating with the community constantly talking about games and upcoming features. Doing things that endear us to them.

MS OTOH, has spent more time trying to get rid of the negative stigma it created at the reveal, or worse, outright ignored it. I feel they've gotten better at communicating, but they still come across just as arrogant as Sony was at the PS3 reveal.

The worst part for the X1 right now is that unlike the 360, it's not the only next-gen console with the market to itself for an entire year. That boost is what helped propel MS into the lead for much of last gen.

I think both consoles will do well overall though.

Regardless what anyone thinks when Titanfall launches it is going to be a huge boost in sales for MS. Probably see custom bundles and a huge marketing push, that gap won't be as big as you think.

Titanfall is no big deal when you have Infamous Second Son, Driveclub and games like Watch Dogs coming. PS4 has many f2p games like Backlight Retribution, Warframe and then remember Destiny.

Just enjoy your XB1. It should not matter what PS4 does in terms of sales.

Just my opinion. PS4 is shipping like crazy right now and the demand is massive. More than the XB1.

The PS4 does not need a system seller because the system IS selling.

But the XB1 does need a system seller. I guess we shall be hearing Halo & Gears mentioned soon just to try and boost the sales.

But the only people interested in Titanfall will most probably have a XB1 already. I can't see the attraction on a wider scale. A price drop and a Kinnect-less SKU will help out more than any one game.

Watchdogs is multiplatform, and Microsoft has its own upcoming exclusives like titanfall, quantum break, project spark, black tusk game, and of course halo 5. Just like the previous console generation, there will be reasons to buy each console for some time...

As long as the supply was there he is probably right. Consoles frequently sell over a million in November. The Wii was cresting close to 2.5 million at its peak.

I'll say that I've seen both consoles sitting on the shelves quite a bit in the last week. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Sony sold in 32 countries it only done 2.1 million last i heard.

Microsoft sold only in 13 countries and sold 1.2 on the first day.

Estimates are now 1.5 million.

If you look at it objectively. Sony didn't sell amazing at all outside the United States

30 countries 1.1 million isn't a lot.

Vgchartz is not bad when I come to numbers. Microsoft in two weeks did 780 thousand week one then 480 week 2. Sony did 1.1m week one then 190 thousand week two. Believe me Sony doesn't stand a chance in the US. Wait till the x1 get subsidies. Verizon, Cable, Time Warner and others. Only time will tell but marketing is Microsofts strong point. This Gen just isn't going to be about which console sells the most. Its going to be about how large the beating is.

Sony has the best exclusives every gen and that will continue. The PS4 is 100 bucks cheaper and more powerful. Everything isn't behind a pay wall if you don't have PS+. Its for "The Gamers" first and foremost while the competitor tries to advertise theirs as a "entertainment/ TV devise". You get an amazing controller. And Sony owns some of the top studios like Naughty God,Santa Monica,and Media Molecule to name a few and there is many many others. What's not to like ?

Here is the slight problem with ms pinning it's hopes on titanfall to shift alot of xbox ones, it is also on 360 and pc.

So that kinda kills it status as a system seller, and what little i have seen on it doesn't exactly scream next gen fps game to me.

It basically looks like cod with mechs, that might be doing the game a disservice, i think destiny will sell better. Simply because it isn't just a competitive online fps game, but has a campaign mode(which is online only thanks blizzard) and coop gameplay.

Taking a hundred dollars off the price and ms fixing their chip yield issues will sell alot more xbox ones, than titanfall could hope to.

Nvm Didn't know tf's release date was in march, i still don't see it being a system seller, but it could be the 4th or 5th game for some that makes them jump in.

What's funny is that this numbers sold are exactly equal to the number shipped, and people are using it as some measure of performance.

This makes no sense. Until both companies reach a point when supply is greater than demand, we won't get a real picture of how they are performing. I suspect Sony's device is in significantly higher demand, but MS's supply chain in the US, may have already closed the initial .5mil gap.

That's only if they sell all the consoles that they supply. Reports indicate that isn't the case for the Xbox One. Heck I just passed by game and they still have loads of Xbox Ones on sale but they dont have any PS4s.
