Sony Santa Monica to All-Stars Fans – “We Are Absolutely Not Giving Up”

PlayStation Euphoria: Scheduled for this Fall, a new patch is set to fix what fans have complained about for a long time. However, the crew at Sony Santa Monica, made fans worry as a previous update that was supposed to be shared a few weeks ago with the community was postponed. While no news has been shared on what this patch covers yet, Tank has reassured fans of the game that they “are absolutely not giving up.”

well thats great and all but….. it's a bit to late now.

Deadpoolio3783d ago

Um it still has a pretty descent little community

TomShoe3783d ago

Kind of late, but at least I got it for a good deal for Cyber Monday.

$20 for both PS3 and Vita versions. Still a fun game to play if you're tired of all the AAA games and want to play something a little different than Smash.

LiQuiZoN3783d ago

I love this game, I will play it again when patch drops! I hope for an allstars2 for ps4!!! New kill mechanics please.

araman3783d ago

"descent"

Never was there a more fitting typo.

ShinMaster3782d ago (Edited 3782d ago )

I kinda want a MvC3 / Tatsunoko vs Capcom style PS All Stars fighting game.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. On one hand it seems positive spin but it is a bit wee too late.

sinncross3783d ago

I dunno...

new balance patch... add Knack, iota (Teraway),finish Dart and some other character, and give the game a PS4 release (plus lower PSN price for all 3 versions) and I think something could work out.

community might be small, but I am surprised how quickly I can get into games at times.

Good, because All-Stars is a really fun game with friends. People were just mad that it wasn't a Smash Bros. clone, or were mad that it 'was' a clone (those that never actually played it). It had its own style, and was really fun when you got into it. It's a shame people didn't give it much time to grown on them.

Here's hoping for an All-Stars 2, or at least some new characters as DLC.

PSN-JeRzYzFyNeSt3783d ago (Edited 3783d ago )

i never played the first one bc of no stage knockouts. but i hope they announce a number 2 with stage knockouts..

and I'm hoping for a Modnation Racers 2 real fun with friends

_FantasmA_3783d ago

It doesn't need stage knockouts because its not Smash Bros. Does it need killstreaks and perks too?

Nicaragua3783d ago

If you want smash bros go buy smash bros. To have written off this game because its not identical to another game is completely dumb.

On a separate note i never played Modnation Racers because it didn't have pikmin.

Inception3783d ago

"People were just mad that it wasn't a Smash Bros. clone, or were mad that it 'was' a clone (those that never actually played it)."

It proves that devs can't satisfied both camp. Some people like it (or hate it) because it different from Smash Bros. But some people hate it (especially the Nintendo fanboys) because it tried to follow Smash Bros concept for cross over fighting games. When in fact, Smash Bros IS NOT the pioneer of cross-over fighting games.

Snookies123783d ago

Yeah, it's unfortunate that they couldn't please everyone. It wasn't close enough to Smash Bros. to please those people, and it wasn't different enough to pull in people who didn't like Smash Bros. It was stuck in the middle, and it pushed people away unfortunately. :\

Regardless, I really enjoy the game. It's a lot of crazy fun, especially when you can get into 4x overtime with friends. So fun, and so stressful lol.

guitarded773783d ago

I pre-ordered, and have had fun with it, but All-Stars NEEDS more game modes. It has a good roster, it has good (dynamic) maps, but it's missing the depth of a Smash Bros. Not saying to clone it, but it's pretty thin on game modes. My only complaint.

Veneno3781d ago

Good comment. They could have easily added a "King of the Hill" mode where the 4 players comepete to stand in a specific "territory" for the longest time to win a match. There's so many ideas like this that they could have come up with but didn't.

SpiralTear3783d ago

I personally was very impressed that Superbot didn't just make a clone of Smash Bros. and actually tried something different instead.

I wasn't a fan, however, of the unbalanced roster and constant overtimes, just because the fighting system was one bigger rubber-band effect.

trenso13782d ago (Edited 3782d ago )

i have to agree with you i played the game at events, and the sony store in the city and didn't like it cause it wasnt a smash bros clone. I would often lose track of my character and it felt unresponsive at times. I was playing a sly. I also didnt like there style of winning the game, (i didnt like super smash in brawl) and it was like there whole system of winning was based on a version of that. If they had ab HP mode i would have probably bought the game.

Now actually copy smash brother instead of reinventing the wheel and everyone will be happy...

Hicken3783d ago

No, everyone would NOT be. I enjoy SSB, but I don't want All Stars to be the same. I like that it was different, and I want it to stay that way.

If you want SSB, there's one coming for the Wii U sometime next year.

SkippyPaccino3783d ago

Well you might of liked it but... The sells weren't exactly positive... Everyone complaints were that it tried to be ssb but didn't quite do it...The more Sony exclusives the better... As long as the quality is there. :-)

Hicken3782d ago

Sales were decent. Not blockbuster, but then they were never expected to be so. And the quality was present, as well, though perhaps the game was a little low on content.

That aside, there were just as many people who complained that the game was TOO MUCH like SSB. People took both approaches to the game- too much like SSB, and not enough like SSB- and criticized it for both these things.

Therefore, while you may decrease the number of those who say it wasn't enough of an SSB clone, you'll increase the number of people who say it's too much of an SSB clone.

There was no desire or attempt to reinvent the wheel, as you say, but there WAS the intent to make the game unique. Making it more like the competition would take away from that. And I think most people would prefer that didn't happen.

Gabenbrah3783d ago

This time do it right by allowing stage knockouts

Mr_Writer853783d ago

Stage knockouts are cheap and only those who can't play fighting games want them.

Gabenbrah3783d ago

But allowing 1 hit kill moves is more skilful... *Logic*

Mr_Writer853783d ago

Where did I say that?

Please point it out as I can't see it and I sure don't remember writing it...

Thanks.

Gabenbrah3783d ago

In order to get a kill in All Stars, you need to build your meter to use a 1 hit auto kill move... Did you even play All Stars?

Mr_Writer853783d ago (Edited 3783d ago )

Yes I did

But I'm asking you where did I say 1 hit kills was more skillfull?

I didn't as you are making stuff up, because I never claimed it was more skillful you are just trying to deflect from the fact that I am right and stage knockouts are cheap.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69511d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop511d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard511d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi511d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin511d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus518d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer517d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
