While Sony (SNE) is pushing its new PlayStation 4 hardware this fall, the PS4 won't be getting Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 6. Sony is focusing on the 80 million PlayStation 3 global gamers for its newest internally developed racing simulation, which drives into worldwide retailers on December 6.
The franchise is celebrating its 15th anniversary with sales of more than 70 million copies around the globe. This year, Gran Turismo 5 surpassed 10 million units sold for PS3 since its November 2010 launch, making it one of the best-selling PS3 franchises ever. The critically acclaimed racing game has grossed over $2.5 billion for Sony, and video game analyst Peter Warman of research firm Newzoo believes GT6 will drive strong sales this fall and beyond.
Sony has recruited Bungie's head of revenue Jaremy Rich to head up its live-service gaming division, Rich has announced on social media.
Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.
I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.
Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.
How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
Sony has patented to add multiple dialogue modes to let players switch between how many conversations with NPCs they want in the game.
Sony is like the only ones outta the 3 that has atuff like like this pop up changing thing in ways.
Genuine Enabling Technology was seeking damages, claiming the tech allowing PlayStation consoles and controllers to communicate infringes its rights.
Sounds like patent trolling they tried the same thing against Nintendo with the same pattern.
Motion and control input traversing over higher and lower frequencies seperate from each other allowing the controller to do both
So to recoup the money Genuine is going to take on Nintendo or Microsoft next. I hate patent lawyers they are some of the worst bottom feeders out there.
What Polyphony is doing with car manufacturers and designing supercars for the game is more impressive than anything Turn 10 has done.
Everyone knows Forza is the king of car racing... Sorry PS dudes
I enjoyed GT5 but I don't see any reason why I should buy this one. Don't get me wrong, it seems to be a good game but there is no enough incentive for me to get it now.
I can turn my attention to DriveClub
2.5 BILLION and Sony cannot help them buy a microphone to record engine sounds! My Dyson sounds meaner than the GT super cars.
I love GT, but come Kaz put some time into 7 and give us a PROPER next gen release. No more crap damage modeling, and vacuum sounding cars. Give him praise, but keep him grounded in reality. GT needs some polish for next gen.
Also give us some damn proper Euro cars. See Driveclub.
There considering redoing sounds via a patch to make them bigger I guess but really ive been near a lot of sports cars they have a growl but there not that loud
