PSN Accounts Being Hacked, FIFA 14 Trading Cards Apparently Compromising Users

It's more of a problem with Fifa than it is with PSN or Xbox Live.
Unless of course Both PSN and Xbox Live got hacked recently and everyone kept quiet about it which I seriously doubt.

The issue is that you need to create your own account with Origin within PSN or Xbox Live.
Even if Origin gets hacked, they have your email and user ID and info, and if you use the same password on both, then chances are your PSN or XGL account can get compromised.

PSN will send you yearly password resets to make sure you don't always have the same password for security measures. You should do the same with all of your emails and passwords, keep them refreshed.
The best security system in the world changes password every day.

Exactly after the first hack, that's how I do it (PSN cards). When i'm forced to enter CC information for plus/netflix etc. I put it in and then delete it ASAP. Those who are hacked in the future and have their CC info on their account deserve it lOl.

This exactly what I do, PSN cards only. Again that's because of the month plus downtime and millions of jeopardized accounts a two years or so ago on the PSN.

Now to say you deserve to have your CC info taken if it's on a account is absurd. They are a legitimate company. If they give you a service that allows them to hold your CC then they are responsible.

It's just not that big of a deal for me to go buy the codes off of Amazon whenever I need them. That also ensures that I won't have a payment applied automatically without me realizing it, like for example the renewal of PS+.

Just to note, you can add money via PayPal on the SEN Web site. That's how I do it. Since it requires an outside login to paypal to access the funds, it's a double wall of security.

Most people don't have an issue with this though. Perhaps I'm playing a dangerous game but between the number of PS users, being able to blame Sony or a company like EA for any compromises, and having CC protection, I'm not that worried at all.

It seems many of you are still under the impression that what happened with PSN was actually a hack, and millions of people had their info (including CC info) stolen.

It wasn't actually a hack. What happened was the keys to PSN were "stolen" and an unauthorized user logged in with developer credentials. Once discovered, that individual was locked out. The month long downtime was to acquire new servers with new security measures and to move them to a new location.

Absolutely no one's CC information was stolen as that information is encrytped.

Though removing your CC information is definitely the safest way to keep your information out of unwanted hands, it's also a tad paranoid to do so.

I have 0 liability for credit card fraud. I've had bogus charges on credit cards before and it's never been because of using them online. I just call and tell the credit card company, or sometimes they call me because they see unusual activity. They just send me a new card and it's never cost me a dime.

I have an extra visa card with only a $5000 limit that I use only for online purchases and it's the one card that has never been compromised.

I use my card for everything. Not just shopping online but ordering take out or going to the store for a drink. I should be able to use it here.

You do have a point there, but psn cards are everywhere now. There's amazon for us customers, and then there's pcgamesupply.com and Maximus cards for international customers. There are also some other sites for specific regions, but pcgamesupply is the best. All of these sites deliver your psn card code thru email within a maximum of 10-15 minutes, if it's your first time though it'll take 12 hrs or a day for some sites. I've used pcgamesupply and Maximus cards, and the code is received in my mailbox within 2 minutes. Never had issues with it. But I understand your point.

Also since 2010 I never use my CC for buying online anymore. My bank has this thing where they issue you an online only CC, and once it reaches 0 you can't go use it unless you refill it with cash,so I have to go refill it with cash from the nearest branch, which is right next to my apartment, so it doesn't bother me much. It's really way better than using your original cc, as you only refill the amount you want to use, so even if somehow the card gets hacked, they can only take the amount that's on the card at that time, can't go beyond 0 like with your original cc. I just don't trust online shopping anymore. Am pretty sure most banks do this.

I worked for EA support until recently, and I can tell you right now, this has been an issue on both PS3 and Xbox360 as well. Most cases go directly to team that supports the game developers to investigate account activity to solve these issues.

xbox 360 and xbox one users should enable 2 factor authentication on your xbox live account. It doesn't matter than If your password is compromised because the hacker/thief will need that second factor which can be sent to your cell phone or secondary e-mail account or using an authenticator app for your cell phone. You can disable the 2nd factor for your xbox once you initially sign on, so you don't have to do it everytime. If EA is the problem and they have your info and are the ones billing then you are still probably screwed, but overall you should be safer.

Okay, everybody take a breath. Since you can log in to your PSN account (or XBOX live account) online then your password can be subject to brute force attacks.

It is fairly easy to setup some code to brute force passwords on almost any site. I have read articles on different sites about common terms and brute force hacking and how sophisticated it has become. There are also supposedly sites that explain how to do it and provide you with brute force hacking databases.

In summary, if you have an account that is accessible anywhere online it can be hacked - period. I generally use a lengthy password of more than 12 characters including numbers and special characters in all my passwords. I also only ever pay by points or PSN bucks or use a reloadable CC.

Let's not pretend you can login to someone else's PSN account and magically buy things on their card shall we, logging in to someones account from a different machine results in being prompted to enter the associated cards security information, and if you do not know this information, you cannot use the card, the only other way to successfully login without this information is to let it remove the billing information.

Reality is a lot easier to understand when you have perspective.

As for the password reset, i recall reading that ALL accounts with passwords older than a year would have their passwords reset by force every 12 months specifically for security reasons.

So I bought/downloaded "premium" yesterday, on BF4, (EA)

Tonight I tried to log in, and psn said I needed to change my password. first time, ever. (I have a feeling it was because I bought premium yesterday.

to test this, I have a second account I use for COD (reason being, some of my BF friends would de-friend me, if they knew I played cod). That account signed in with no problems, no prompts.
