PS4 Vita Remote Play: it just works, and it’s just brilliant

PlayStation 4′s Remote Play feature and a war in the Murder House living room inspired Brenna to dust off her long-neglected Vita, with compelling results.

Remote play is looking great, Rivals is awesome on the Vira, perfect when the girlfiend wants to watch The Kardashians!!

abzdine3795d ago

let's hope that they keep promoting it

WeAreLegion3795d ago

The Vita or the Kardashians?

johndoe112113795d ago

I actually only bought a vita because of the integration of the ps4. I never cared to own a vita before that. I had no idea what I was missing out on.

The vita is a great stand alone device but when paired with the ps4 it really takes it to another level. I would recommend anyone who can afford it to get a vita if you own a ps4.

Bigkurz853795d ago

Agreed. People can rip Vita all they want but that fact is: Everyone that HAS a Vita loves it. The attach rate is crazy high. It's a great system. I loved it BEFORE Remote Play but now I'm just astounded by it.

Studio-YaMi3795d ago

Only thing I wish they could work on is remote playing in 60fps,they probably won't/can't but wish they would. :(

Everything else about it is just GREAT! :D

kratos_TheGoat3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

i can't see my self dropping 200 for a vita where the memory card is trash and expensive

Sheikah3795d ago

I'd defo say go for it.

Buy the old versions, get one used - they have the OLED screen, which is better. You can probs snatch a used one for 100 tops, with a 4gb at least.

Enjoy the Ps+ freebies - or if you only wanna use it for remote-play: fuck the mem cards altogether and don't spendt a dime on them.

kratos_TheGoat3795d ago

ps vita with 100gb for $200/250 is a great price

Elda3795d ago

Don't knock it till you try it!

XxGOWxX3795d ago

"its just works" Thats cool that it works lol Nice to see that in a product these days..

Features that work. Now theres an angle all brands could use.

CyrusLemont3795d ago

Unfortunately for me, my Vita is having way too many issues with this. Definitely needs some patches to iron out the bugs. Mine never connects, even though on the PS4 I have it set to directly connect. It works maybe the first time I turn on the PS4, but when I disconnect and then reconnect with the Vita, it doesn't work. I'm like 2 metres away from the console as well lol. Would have helped alot for my hard playthrough on Knack.

a08andan3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

That sounds like a network problem rather than hardware. How old is your router? :)

edit: And is your ps4 on a wired or wireless connection to the internet?

CyrusLemont3795d ago

I thought that might be the case! I wasn't entirely sure if the Vita connects over the modem or actually directly to the Playstation. We just got a Netgear DGND3700 V2 (Mouthful!). None of the computers or the PS4 (Which is wirelessly connected to it btw) have issues with it though. My ping is only around 25ms over wireless as well and my Vita has full reception in the same room as the PS4. So I'm a little confused, I have no idea how to troubleshoot something like this to get it working smoothly.

a08andan3795d ago (Edited 3795d ago )

Well if the ps4 is wirelessly connected to your network it could potentially interfere with the wireless transmission to your ps Vita depending on your network environment. If you can, try connecting your ps4 with a wire. If it works better after that then that is your problem. :)

And the solution to that problem is to have the ps4 on a wired connection OR get a router that supports dual-band connections and connect your ps4 to the 2,4Ghz band (I read somewhere that the ps4 is not compatible with the 5Ghz band) and your Vita to the 5Ghz band. That way their signals won't interfere.

CyrusLemont3795d ago

Well a cable would just be messy in the house because of the position where the modem is but our modem does support dual band connections so I'm going to try that and see what happens! Thanks :)

Barely works for me also. Tried through the net, at home local connection, away from home exc but only AC4 works and that's due to slow gameplay. Anything fast like KZ and Resogun is unplayable and laggy. I have amazing Internet and an amazing router. Its just not a great feature right now. It needs patches for sure and it should've had the same connection as a WiiU. That works perfectly without lag while remote play loses connections, freezes, is laggy, and just doesn't work.

If they can iron out the bugs it will be awesome. Playing AC4 was great although I would never use it at home anyways, a 5in screen for a ps4 game is too small. More of a cool gimmick and something to advertise like move or the camera. If it worked as well as the wiiu locally and they had a bigger vita it would be a selling feature of the vita. I'd love a vita with hdmi out and a 7in screen. I love my vita to death anyways I just don't like remote play, it was overhyped and under delivered like usual.

CyrusLemont3795d ago

Maybe try what @a08andan, could work for you as well! I would imagine over online streaming, it would be more unstable, have you tried the directly connect feature?

When I did have it working it was awesome and holds a lot of potential for future titles. But I agree, I don't think it's meant to be used as a full fledged replacement but I believe that was Sony's intention anyway. It's more complimentary and if you have friends over, I imagine the second screen function would be awesome. I was trying to figure out how to get Knack on the Vita under a second account and have the main account on the DS4, but every time the Vita connects, it signs the main account into the Vita. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure it out cause I can't get the damn thing to work! haha

johndoe112113795d ago

Definitely sounds like a network problem. Try connecting your ps4 to the router with a wired connection.

My only issue with remote play is I cannot get it to connect via internet, if I'm in my house I can direct connect(ad hoc whatever you wanna call it) but no internet, I've change all the appropriate setting in the ps4 but no dice, probably my router

Lowsnamebrand3795d ago

about a year and a half old

a08andan3795d ago

Is ur ps4 connected with a wire or wireless? :)

Liamabob3795d ago

I find that mine is all-too-often playing catchup with the video streaming. I'm still trying to figure out if the PS4's wi-fi performance is really bad, or if it's just teething problems around launch. My download speeds are mostly horrific and it occasionally drops off the network. It's sat in the same location as my PS3 was, but the signal strength is saying that it's 10-20% lower at times.

MasterCornholio3795d ago

I live in Spain and I have a 100MB internet connection. The first day I had issues with the network but now everything is running smoothly for me. I've been playing DC Universe a lot and I never noticed any lag during gameplay. If anything changes I'll let you know.

a08andan3795d ago

See my reply to CyrusLemont above.. I'm now out of bubbles :(

amm2033795d ago

If you have Direct Connection turned on on your PS4 it will not allow you to connect outside of your PS4's wireless network. That is all direct connect is. The PS4 has it's own router built in that creates a wireless network your Vita connects to. When the PS4 is in this mode it will not allow you to connect remotely via internet. Unfortunately you must turn off Direct Connect. You may have already done this considering what you said about changing the settings. Other than that it could be an NAT issue. My router is set for NAT 2 and connects just fine for reference.
