The Survivor 2299; Nuclear winter has come

TechRaptor - Ever since the website went live, Fallout fans worldwide have been sitting on the website for god knows how long translating morse code, reporting HTML tweaks, sifting through various behind the scenes changes, and of course mashing the living day lights out of their F5 keys. Not only has the new website ruined some perfectly good keyboards, but it has also acted as a fine layer of plasma slime that has brought some key FO communities together. The Bethesda forums experienced a huge posting surge, the official Fallout subreddit has become a huge hub of information, even the more mainstream gaming communites are into it. Recently however, we hit an official milestone in the buzz surrounding the website.

Personally I think this is a hoax more and more as time goes by. Honestly from a marketing standpoint it doesnt make sense because only a small group of people on the internet know or even care about the website vs the world. On top of that even fewer people know morse code and can decipher these messages. Its really a missed opportunity to hit the masses and that is why I think its a hoax.+

TechRaptor3791d ago

It could very well be a well-done hoax. We plan on updating with every change of the site, and hopefully Zenimax will actually comment soon.

Indo3791d ago

They could easily claim the site is a hoax, but dont. Douche move.

NukaCola3791d ago

It's happening. Bethesda is letting the internet have a mad moment over this, but in the end, it will reveal snd launch next FALL 14 and we will be happy

MAJ0R3790d ago (Edited 3790d ago )

The website seems too in depth to be hoax, especially after watching this video:

irepbtown3790d ago

Usually when it's a hoax the relevant company quickly squashes it.

So I highly doubt this is a hoax as many others are as well.

I've never been to the website or rarely do go to teaser/countdown sites but I get the sense a lot of people think this is fake from most comments I have read. I agree with you too, Fallout is way too big for a teaser to go mostly unnoticed and Bethesda/Zenimax know marketing well enough to announce it in a grand way and tease it enough to leave people guessing but enough sense to know it's not fake...

Never been a huge Fallout fan (really enjoyed 3 but vegas was awful and 1,2 weren't my cup of tea) but I'm looking forward to what they will do with Fallout 4

pivotplease3791d ago

Yeah, but they expect certain fans and gaming sites to decipher that and spread the news around. I've seen more abstract marketing.

Linsolv3791d ago

It's actually really standard viral marketing technique.

ARGs are one of the old school methods since the early 2000s.

MONOLITHICIDE3791d ago

At the moment if its not a hoax they're teasing the hardcore fans I believe. When they have a world premier is when they get the word out to the world. Just my take.

curtis923791d ago

I think the exact reasons you gave are why it IS legitimate. It's there for the smart ones and the ones who really care to figure out and get pumped out before they inevitably announce it to the masses soon.

orakle443790d ago

I think it's not a hoax, you know how inexpensive it is to keep that site up? For a company like Bethesda it's peanuts, and it causes quite a stir amongst the internets.

LaraTheOnigiri3790d ago

In regards to "codes" and "missed opportunity", am I the only one who remembers the way Portal 2 was originally announced? Kinda seems similar to me, obviously without the official update and such.
I also find it odd that Bethesda has refused to commend on this possible hoax. Usually they deny actual rumors very quickly, but this time...

ZodTheRipper3790d ago

I'm pretty sure this is not a hoax.

GroundZeroesBob3790d ago (Edited 3790d ago )

I would love a winter based Fallout game.

This is exciting lol.

Abdou0233790d ago

if it was a missed opportunity to hit the masses you wouldn't be commenting on it right now.

TacticAce3790d ago

I'm a journalist this is literally what I do.

Abdou0233790d ago

@TacticAce

Other people on gaming sites aren't...

overrated443791d ago

My biggest problem with the site is that after it got some attention it went on to then put up ANOTHER countdown (which ended today) that didn't explain anything. It was literally a countdown within a countdown that lead to a puzzle that was deciphered only to reveal another very cryptic message. If this were an actual ARG it could be done far more elegantly than it is.

psman0123791d ago

http://who.godaddy.com/whoi...

I mean, it said the Domain is registered/owned by Zenimax of Rockville, Maryland, their headqarters...so it seems legit. That's what I'm hoping!!

lashes2ashes3791d ago

Zinimax has never used go daddy for web hosting. And it's registered in Poland lol. It's a hoax.

KingOfArcadia3791d ago

I thought I read somewhere that it was registered through GoDaddy by a marketing company out of Poland... which was the same company that had done previous work for them on Fallout 3. To me, the fact that Bethesda hasn't flat out denied a hand in it is telling.

JasonXS123791d ago

Even though Bethesda has never registered using GoDaddy it doesn't place the website down as a hoax because Blizzard also registered both Catacylsm and Warlords of Draenor using GoDaddy.

Plagasx3791d ago (Edited 3791d ago )

If it is a hoax, why doesn't just Bethesda just come out and say it has nothing to do with Fallout? or it isn't from them?

overrated443791d ago

I believe their "official statement" when asked was "we don't comment on rumors or speculation".

MattyG3791d ago

Which is different to what they normally have said on this kind of stuff which is just a flat out "no". Kind of weird that they won't confirm or deny when they usually flat out deny.

Qrphe3791d ago

Is Bethesda forced to acknowledge every single claim they hear about?

No

Heisenburger3791d ago

How many have there been this year?

That's what I thought.
Do you even lift bro?

Viking_Socrates3791d ago

I just love watching different sites reaction to this site, ranging from "it's happening" to "not happening, damn polack"

It's entirely fascinating watching this.

Fallout 4 London mod delayed indefinitely because of Fallout next-gen update

If you were excited about the Fallout 4 London mod, we have some bad news for you. The mod has been delayed indefinitely thanks to Fallout 4 next-gen update.

Not a bad thing. They've even shown excitement at what the update could bring to making things better for them. More work? Yeah. But, still a good thing overall.

-Foxtrot2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I think this looks pretty great so they should take as much time as they need.

It’s kind of shame however we’ll probably never get to see an official Fallout London game or anything set in the UK now because of the mod.

Andrew3362d ago

Why not? It's only gonna be available on PC and is not backed by Bethesda at all

-Foxtrot1d 23h ago

Because Bethesda might think "Meh, London has already been done with that Mod, they've taken the shine away from it and if we do it now they might think we're copying"

Something along those lines.

FPS_D3TH2d ago

While I’d love to see more world building lore in Fallout, I’d be surprised if Fallout ever ventured beyond a United States setting. Maybe a dlc to a main game though. Always wondered what other places would look like, if they too had the 50s culture with futuristic tech.

Richhard12d ago

No point on the update, you can get 60fps anyway with mods.

Fonsecap2d ago

The update will break much more then it will fix... At least on PC.

Fallout Anthology Edition Looks Pretty S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

The Fallout Anthology Edition is coming to PC very soon, and is packaged with some very S.P.E.C.I.A.L. bonuses.

-Foxtrot6d ago

It’s an awful downgrade to the last one they did

They included physical disc back then

ocelot075d ago

Forgot I ordered this until I got the dispatch email.

FPS_D3TH5d ago

I want the first two games to come to iPhone/android

Friendlygamer4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I bet they feel pretty stupid not allowing someone else, possibly Obsidian to do a Fallout game because they could have released it this year near the TV show to capitalise on it.

RaidenBlack7d ago

ironic, given the fact what the TV show did to New Vegas, lol

-Foxtrot7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

You know what the funny thing is...literally 10 MINUTES after making that comment I've just seen what they've done.

I mean it was a chalk board and it still feels a bit ambiguous in places but they didn't actually just do that...right?

FPS_D3TH6d ago

What exactly did the show do to New Vegas?

Wretchedstain6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

@ -Foxtrot. Based on a lot that I've read of your comments, i though we were on the same page (physical media etc non digital at nauseam...) . As Canon, I thought they did pretty well (I'm a hardcore fan), they delved into a pretty decent tie in to expand on for season 2, let alone fan service with nods to certain gameplay aspects along the way. I hope you've watched it to appreciate it 'for what it is', It's good. (Loved seeing Red Rocket station in Ep 7, goosebumps galore throughout the 8 Eps they did let alone that)

Sciurus_vulgaris7d ago

Obsidian has been working on two RPGs (Avowed and the Outer Worlds 2) for the past few years. TV shows and films can be produced much faster than video games.

-Foxtrot7d ago

I meant it as in if they just let Obsidian do this years ago before The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed was in production. This could have been their next game instead.

ED-E7d ago

Eh depends, development hell can take many years in movies and tv series. Fallout tv series was announced 4 years ago, which was also the main development time of Fallout 4.

But yeah Bethesda was already in full production of Starfield and working on Elders Scrolls on the side. Obsidian was already with Microsoft (while Beth was not) and busy with Grounded and Pentiment. So minor updates/dlcs for their latest games was probably the best they could do.

I would have outsourced a remaster/remake of Fallout 3 to align with the release tv series.

MrBaskerville6d ago

@-Foxtrot
From what I gather they'd rather do Avowed and Outer worlds at this point. Doesn't sound like the current Obsidian really desires to go back to New Vegas at this time.

Obscure_Observer7d ago

"I bet they feel pretty stupid not allowing someone else, possibly Obsidian to do a Fallout game because they could have released it this year near the TV show to capitalise on it."

They´ll certainly take advantage of the next gen upgrade, coming to Xbox Series, PS5 and PC.

raWfodog6d ago

“They´ll certainly take advantage of the next gen upgrade, coming to Xbox Series, PS5 and PC.”

You mean ‘current’ gen, right? ;)

Obscure_Observer6d ago

@raWfodog

"You mean ‘current’ gen, right? ;)"

Precisely. Thanks ;)

Chard6d ago

Bethesda probably resents that Obsidian made the best Fallout game

Wretchedstain6d ago

Then why end the show in that fashion?

mastershredder7d ago

If you thought '76 made Fallout feel mainstream, now we have a TV show that looks like a cosplay convention. The clean duds and Garbage Kid- Looking power suits (Head scale) are killing me. I think that it's nice that there's something for tv viewers to glimpse at why people like Fallout, but they are only getting a filterd down, made for series-seasonal tv (ew), passanger's flattened persfective with no risk based upon actions or consequese or social/non-social stangings that are experienced in the game.

The series represent's itself as a Fallout the tv show for people that need that kind of pacing (again ew), not the Fallout the game. Some people will dig this. I can see them having reason to, considering everying the show is borrowing to make it something Falloutish. It not for me, and I'm cool with that.

Wretchedstain6d ago

I am a MASSIVE fallout fan, I have a computer desk shine THAT IS FALLOUT and no other. The show was amazing to me, and bias had nothing to do with that, my trepidation was ultimate. The tie in to 'something' New Vegas, had me cheering like a sports fan at the end there (I have the collectors edition, and covet its mint condition highly) and I hate sports. I love a lot of other gaming, movie and TV show things, what they have done its pretty damn cool to me.

marioJP876d ago

Checking out the show possibly tonight or tomorrow for sure. Hope it’s as good as everyone says.

anast6d ago

I have to watch it. Hopefully it's better than the recent Fallouts.
