PS4 Black Friday Bundle Outsells Xbox One Equivalent Soundly at GameStop; Ranked 2nd and 7th

It’s doubtless that Black Friday is a strategic date for shopping in the United States, so it’s not surprising that leading retailer GameStop decided to provide a rich bundle for both the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Turns out the PS4 Bundle is outselling the Xbox One equivalent rather soundly.

To be completely honest, I don't think Xbox One can beat PS4 on Black Friday. Its because Black Friday is the day where people search for the lowest price. Had Gamestop built similarly priced bundles, there may have been less discrepancy. Price is one of Sony's main advantages that the Xbox 360 used to have over the PS3.

I am not predicting either way. There is a good chance this could be a indicator of how the sales will end up.

I would caution though that this is GameStop Online.
1) Most people don't shop online for Black Friday.
2) GameStop online is not a popular site for most console buyers to shop. Amazon is actually the place the eBay is where most people buy online.

So I will advice waiting a few days to here real numbers.

PS4 came out Friday, it is now 12:30pm Saturday here in Australia. Just went to these stores in my area:

JB Hi Fi
EB Games
Target
Big W
K Mart
Dick Smith Electronics
Harvey Norman

All 7 have Xbox One's available from day one
All 7 are sold out of PS4's
Only JB Hi Fi have places available for the second shipment which should be between 20th and 24th of December. The other 6 are sold out of their second shipment and should have stock in January

The best numbers comparison will be next year when both consoles are readily available but at this point PS4 should easily be 3 or 4 to 1

not really, I went to 2 gamestops in my area and both had at least 2 xbones in stock at 2pm on friday, when I asked about PS4 the kid said they were long gone....I believe PS4 demand is higher

i am a sony fanboy at heart, but i do think xbox have made a great console no question, but where they have gone wrong is making kinect mandatory. if they had not done this the console could have been about £100 cheaper which would have put the console about the £329 mark £20 cheaper than sony maybe if microsoft have a tuff start i think they may revert to this. to me this does seem like a very silly mistake i think any kind of marketing would of suggested this, they should of known this. another oversight in my book was not having halo as a launch title this one game alone would have sold 2 or 3 million day 1 consoles

I think you've entirely missed the point. USA sales mean nothing on their own for either company, America is not the world. PS4 isn't just banking on the states, it is giving the competition a sound thrashing the world over... so in this case, sales do matter. As for launch reviews, they matter much less than sales. More sales=more dev engagement=great games to come. Poor launch titles just mean a mediocre start, little else.

There are a lot of great deals out there for PS3 this black friday. I was quite impressed. I think the PS3 and 360 will be pretty popular this season just because of the promoting it's going to get in place of the more expensive consoles which are mostly unavailable. Which is usually what happens the holiday after a new system launches.

As much as i love what sony as a company stand for with their playstation brand never count the competition out.

Healthy competition is always welcome because it will always make Sony up their game even more so then they already are and that means as gamers we win even more.

Im not saying go buy an xbox but there is always the uninformed, people who like gimmicky features and/or their ip's which will probably be few in numbers in the long term but will definetly help the competition.

I truly hope that over time, the xbox one's overall plan will play out. I for one did not mind the higher price, and planning to buy both made choosing which one to get first much easier. But for the general public, especially moms/dads, there isnt much reason to buy the more expensive console. It's crazy to see how badly MS misjudged the market with xbox one. I thought that going into this generation, we would see a hard fought battle. But ever since e3, it has been quite clear that xbox one simply cannot hold its own.

I think the x1 will continue to sell very well, and once halo drops there will be a big boost in sales. But i feel it is safe to say that MS will play runner up for this generation. maybe the gap will close a bit, but the next time MS will get a chance to take the top spot will be 6-8 years from now when new consoles come around again.

Until then, i for one am really loving my xbox one, and cant wait to nab a ps4 this spring.

No surprise here. What people also have to take into consideration is that the people who are buying the next-gen consoles right now are mostly hardcore gamers. And what do most hardcore gamers prefer right now, the PS4.

So it makes sense that the PS4 is outselling the X1 by a good margin. However, once the casual gamer begins getting into the mix, that's when the X1 should begin to gain some ground. How much ground? That is to be seen. But overall, as long as both consoles don't flop like the WiiU, then there is no real reason to give a crap about the numbers.
