"The PS4 and Xbox One are now available for all and sundry to experience - unless you don't count that the PS4 has yet to launch in Europe. Just about every developer out there has a stake in the next-generation, including Frozenbyte who is releasing Trine 2: Complete Story for the PS4."
Frozenbyte marketing manager Kai Tuovinen believes the Xbox Series S' less powerful hardware can be an issue for
With all AAA devs I know, it's the one thing they hate having to work around. It just creates more unnecessary work for them when they'd rather focus more time on bugs and the like.
Its not like they aren't already designing for PCs with similar or even lower end specs than the Series S for the Minimum Recommended options.
Of course its more work and they need to go around the limitations of the hardware, but they were going to do it anyway
***Its not like they aren't already designing for PCs with similar or even lower end specs than the Series S for the Minimum Recommended options. ***
I mean, they still say they hate having to work around it. It's easy for you to think "Oh, it must be just like PC" but for them to point that out specifically seems to say otherwise, or at least something notable in their day-to-day job. I could go on about my guesses as to the hows and whys, but I don't do what they do, so I just accept what they say and move on. Perhaps armchair devs should do the same?
Xbox fan here but I always hated the idea of the Series S, of course it's a bottleneck for devs and I knew since day 1 Microsoft should have went all in on the Series X.
"bu, bu S is more affordable next gen" Yeah, yeah but is it worth the headache?...pffft if you can't afford to go next gen, Im sorry, how about wait until you can.
They were literally asked about the Series S … of course they specifically talked about it
***They were literally asked about the Series S … of course they specifically talked about it ***
Read my first comment above again. This isn't about the article, it's about people I know.
You know.... not to nitpick, but does a 'marketing director' really count as a "developer"? I get that they work for the developer but they [themselves] are not a developer. Maybe he was... but now he is part of the marketing team who's job it is to promote their product.
So in essence he is just sharing his opinion, and rightfully so. We all have opinions on the Series S and where it fits in the grand scheme of things.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's why it's easy on Square Enix to keep FF16 console wise on PS
The work to get around the Series S because everything has to be about parity
Imagine spending time trying to dumb your games down when you could be making it better or working on a new game altogether
Remember when Albert Penello claimed that the Series S would outperform the PS5?
https://wccftech.com/penell...
I remember the other engineer did the same thing defending the XB1 bottlenecks back in 2013. Not once but twice do they eat those words now lol.
The comments on that link are so truly classic fandom..... Talk about eating crow.
Damn lazy developers can’t slide down the light dimmer switch and blame little Microsoft for their laziness/SARCASM
PS5 is garbage!
I'm testing to see how long before I get flagged as inappropriate versus the original comment...
If you mean features like ray tracing and having quality / performance modes... the S certainly doesn't have those in every game where the X does.
when street fighter 6 runs better oblast gen xbox and ps4, you know you' gon' dun' fuk'd up
It's not though. It has to do with split screen coop. Something halo cancelled as well...a first party studio. It just dosnt work on series s like it should
ummmm duh. Gamers have said this from the beginning. MS claimed it would affect the series x.
The good guys at Microsoft are always doing what is best for the consumer, so no surprise there Mr Trine 5 developer.
It is best for the consumer to launch a console without any exclusives for 3 years?
I can actually predict all those games they supposedly developing taking longer than they think.
They will release a new console despite what some say as no one but south Korea has internet fast enough for cloud streaming with no lag.
I can definitely see the headline "we have taken the difficult decision to delay * insert game * to next gen. We want a quality product and value our customers"
Thus leaving the series consoles with
Even less . Which is a hard task
"It is best for the consumer to launch a console without any exclusives for 3 years?"
Yes! That's why for the good of gamers everywhere, good guy Microsoft bought Activision and Bethesda to take away games from the competition so that they can buy what they couldn't make after 3 years; Exclusives! I hope EA and Take 2 is next on Microsoft's lists! Gaming has never been better since they've started taking buying up multiplats that already release games on their platform seriously!
@outsidethebox it’s funny they only bought them because of the competition kept trying to buy timed exclusives from them .. after already securing 2 and went for a 3rd and having paid for marketing rights for the other .. talking about MS BUYING studios , when Sony been buying up times exclusive rights from third party companies for years fool lol
You have to root for them as they are the underdog. They only own all of pc gaming and doesn't even get to own consoles as well. It's unfair that a small company like MS can't even dominate the entire gaming space. But hopefully they'll get there when they own all of it.
sS isn’t a complete waste of a sku like the OG Xbone + Kinect, but it is a continuation of why I’ve moved from Xbox until they get back in track:
When Xbox fails to continue outputting top tier Mature games like Halo and Gears, they opt to appeal to younger audiences instead of improving their delivery of games to their original target market (gamers with hands large enough to manage to original Xbox Duke controller).
Where are the shooters, Xbox…
“Where are the shooters, Xbox”
Fortnite, PUBG, Overwatch 2, etc. are all the shooters on Xbox. Welcome to the future of gaming.
I got those on ps5 with better video capture and better controller.
What shooters would only exist on Xbox?
Redfail?
Don't they own all the companies making big budget shooters? Aside from Epic and Bungie.
“…the Series S does pose some limitations that can potentially lead to development issues.”
I bought up basically this same fact a little while ago about how the Series S would cause future development issues as games became more graphically intensive.
“More powerful hardware is always better from a developer perspective,” Touvinen said. “I think for more graphically intensive games the Series S can become a bottleneck as supporting it is required.”
MS’s parity clause for the X and S to have the same features is already causing Xbox owners to have a delayed release of Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s only going to continue to happen more as time goes on.
My friend let me borrow his for a long bus ride to New York and it was cool to have but man It’s hard to get into Xbox sometimes
F the Series S, get rid of that sh1t! Its just more work and a bottleneck for devs for this generation. Just focus on getting the best performance out of the two big dogs!
Well it is what it is. It's a console designed for cheap people which just happens to be the whole Xbox demographic now.
We got our S when the X wasn’t readily available. Used it to test drive Game Pass etc, having skipped the XB1. Have since bought an X and moved the S to the kid’s room. It’s done well in there.
Buying an Series S would be best suited for kids or adults that are cheap & don't really care about resolution including using physical media such as discs. Adults that like more for their money when it comes to tech the Series X is the way to go.
Series S is like that little brother your parents want you to take along with your friends outside and babysit as a teenager.
Jesus if the Trine developers are being bottlenecksd can’t imagine what it’s like for the bigger studios.
Why does giving more options to consumers = something bad because some bad devs won't be able to optimize their game in the end? Even the dev mentioned that it could "POTENTIALLY become a “bottleneck", especially for the more TECHNICALLY DEMANDING games",
How many more demanding games have been produced so far on PS5 or Serie X versus the current thousands of available games?
Also how come the majority of devs who complained so far about Serie S had trouble running their games on high-end PC? Or better yet how come they can create their game for PC with an RTX 3060 (1080P) vs RTX 3080 (4k) surely they would run into the same exact issues they are complaining about yet no issue there.
And last just a reminder that TRINE5 will run 60frames/4k on SerieX and 60 frames/1440p on series S
call me crazy but I'm pretty sure that's what Serie S is supposed to deliver.
The GPU in the Series S is closer to an RX 6500XT. That's the bare minimum for AAA games released today (i.e., 720p Low 30FPS on PC). You can easily picture how hard it is to run games at 1440p/60FPS on such a GPU without compromising a ton and a half. Even 1080p/60FPS is asking too much.
Knew it was a Gamingbolt article right away. "Bleh bleh bleh semi-controversial statement, obscure dev says."
Yes, everyone knows it's a bottleneck.
Obviously lazy developers. They simply have to put the series x build into the series s coding machine and then use the sliders to simply lower the settings. ITS THAT SIMPLES!!!!
/s
We wS lied to. They said series s is just the same apart from targetting 1440p instead of 2k if it was just that and a 1440p console it would be easily best Co sole to buy
Microsoft missed the memo when it came to the new XBox. Sony got it right same machine same specs only thing missing is the disc drive. All the Series S is nothing more then a XB1X on steroids. If you want an Xbox badly save the money and at least buy the Series X the up side is it plays all your old Xbox discs and it has a 4k blu ray player. Where I live the S is always sitting in stores, it comes up used a lot on for sale sites, and I find it for sale a lot more in pawnshops and Gamestop.
No shit?! Also just in; water is wet. Get your popcorn ready for the Starfield Series S breakdown, it’s gonna be a doozy. Frame drops into the low 20’s expected.
Let this be a lesson for next-gen (although I would have thought the lesson would have been learned last-gen with the parity issues of the Pro and X1X with their respective base platforms) to stick with one console and keep the parity across the whole gen.
I wish more developers would simply tell Microsoft, either lose the parity policy, or lose our business.
No it’s not a bottleneck but it forces developers to do their work and would even make the xbox version better as it has to be optimised for the S. So no lazy mess. Do your work and stop complaining. PC is the high end and well as low end.
"Meanwhile, on Switch, it will run at 1080p/30 FPS when docked and 720p/30 FPS when undocked."
???
This is *literally* the quintessential scenario MS has brought up about Series S since day one
My guess is the physics, Bayoneta does not rely on physics much outside the character controller. Trine is practically built around physics, tons of rigid bodies, Ragdolls, and destruction
It was an alright game, played co-op with friends with Trine 2, and then they cheaped out and removed co-op on Trine 3, which me and my friends found out AFTER paying for it. Then we never got to try 4, and now the 5th one is out.
Trine 4 was rather good actually! They had a bundle for all 4 on Switch. Pretty sure its available on other plarfrorms as well.
As I played them all together starting with 1, I agree that 3 was by far the worst.
Trine 4 was really good shadow theme and spiced things up.
finished all 4 but solo. Still good games (3 deviated a lot from the formula however). I took some great screenshots while playing them on switch. Superb looking 2d game and great physics system
“Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is looking excellent so I sat down with Kai Tuovinen from Frozenbyte to ask all about what fans can expect when it comes to gameplay, puzzles, co-op mechanics, bosses, and much more. Let's get to it!” - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums.
That Power can catch you off guard sometimes http://youtu.be/Gbn_9-BwrVQ
Yep, a lot of developers are praising the PS4's raw power. Kudos to Sony for making a powerful console. Getting mine next year when Infamous releases.
This game is amazing in 3D.
Im impressed with the quantity of games that are running in 1080P on the PS4.
P.S I just got my first PS4 game today yey. However i have to wait until friday to play AC4. :(
I gotta wait till tax time.
