Some Xbox One Owners Reporting a ‘Green Screen of Death’

The most serious issue, which most people are screaming about on the official Xbox Support forums, is being dubbed the Green Screen of Death where the Xbox One simply will not boot past the initial green logo screen. Micrsoft has not responded to that thread at all, although the mods have no problem censoring customer’s posts.

I have gotten both and I'm lucky I've had no problem with either.

However, it takes FOREVER for Xbox One games to install!!

Right now I'd have to give the upper hand to PS4. It's just a lot more accessible, as Xbox One's interface isn't easy to navigate.

I had it as well and was worried for a bit. It did take expecially long to switch out of the green screen but it was just booting up and installing stuff. After the first long reboot, the thing is fast as hell. Good luck to everyone but just be patient with the update process.

Not getting a xbone yet but I read somewhere patience is the key on this green screen, sometimes it's best to wait, been tempted before with MS Windows updates to turn laptop off, remember leaving it on once and went to bed and it sill hadn't done it lol

Me too, they should mention that on screen because I was almost ready to hard shut it. The little devil told me restart it but the little angel told me to wait. I should start listening to the little angel. Anyway, it's installing the update and it takes about 10 minutes.

I don't think this actually a problem. It just hangs the first time u turn it on. I thought mine was bricked or some shit to and turned it off. I cut it right back on and just waited this time. It goes through

I agree with this, I never turned it off but I was afraid I had a bricked console. The green screen is just up for a long time. People need to be patient, especially when initially setting up their new consoles.

Best looking game i've ever played. The combats like Batman Arkham Asylum and the story is all about roman history which is something im personally interested in. So for me its an amazing game.

Im with you omi. After reading the reviews I almost didnt buy it but I thought id at least give it a go and im glad I did. Visually its amazing and im liking the combat. Chaining together attacks and stuff is great. Very similar to batman.

My buddy just called because his is having the DVD drive not working problem. He called the store and asked if they had any other problems.. he said they've had six people return them so far.

AND! Yes, MS will send you a new console. BUT you have to let them hold on to $600USD first before they send you one. So if you don't have a credit card then you are up the creek without a paddle.

ALSO- THEY ARE NOT SENDING YOU A NEW CONSOLE!! They are sending you a loaner until they fix yours and return it to you. Then you have to ship the one you've been using back to them.

Thank God I have my PS4 and waited on the X1.

That's ridiculous and not necessarily legal. They send you a broken machine - at no point should you have to pay for a second even temporarily.

Exactly the same thing with mine, initial startup took a fair while, sat on the green screen for what SEEMED like a long time, i though it had actually froze, but left it going an d eventually it started up.

So this may just be people not giving it enough time and thinking its not working.

Again lots of posts about suspect xbox's on front page, far far more than we ever saw regarding the faults for the PS4

What issue? Read the forums you will see people correcting the issue by just leaving on the screen. Apparently from what the forums are stating is the intial install of the update takes longer times for some then others. Once the install is complete, it boots up. It doesn't appear to be a hardware issue. If that's the case, you think they would have shown a progress bar with the update.

I have now encountered a PS4 problem, albiet a minor one (for now).

My two USB ports do not work anymore.
I can't charge the controller, or sync them, via PS4 USB ports.

I can charge the one controller I can already sync'd, by charing via PC USB port. But I can not sync my new second controller, nor enter Safe Mode.

I bought the PSN $60 warranty, and I plan to go into a Sony store to see what they can to.

As of right now, it's just an inconvenience not being able to use my second controller. But it will become more annoying over time.

I did use the USB ports to set up my first controller, as well as install the 1.50 patch (now have 1.51 from downloading)

while in an Ideal world, you would want that to be the case, but every production for consumer products will have a bad batch no matter what product it is.

So the very fact that will always be the case, the only thing you can do, to avoid excessive #'s of defective is try to make it as best you can, and keep up on the process to produce the product with as much quality control as you can. No way for it to be 100% all the time to be perfect, human error, always plays a role in such production, on any day of the week, month or year.

So far, there seems to be no indication its going to be such a wide production problem as it was for the xbox360. both the PS4 and the xboxone seem to be well within normal fault % numbers.

that could change, but sofar there really is no key indications of such failure rates as there was for the xbox360.

Didn't have any issues with my X1. I was surprised that the box isn't as large as reported and the high build quality. Controller is very nice and love how quick the UI is. Much better than the old 360. The only issue I have is I can't party chat. Not sure if it's a user problem or there is a glitch that needs to be ironed out.

When you tried party chat what was it doing to you. My friend and I went into it and couldn't hear each other until I seen the options below and one said turn chat on or something then my friend had to do the same before we could hear each other

i figured it out. Actually a friend told me I had to turn on NAT on the router. I had previously done it for the 360 but forgot about it. Also something about PnP if you have that in your router? Anyways it's all working now... except there is no chat between your friends on 360 and no voice messages. Hopefully they will make that possible. The good news is the included skype allows you to make calls to landline across north america for free.

Everything went smoother than I expected actually, especially the ability to set up the cable guide, and full system on and off...not to mention the Kinect (esp voice control) is A TON better than I expected it to be. Sorry to anyone that has issues, it's somewhat expected with launch systems, but at least this time around it seems very minimal for all the consoles so far

I'm having some issues with using kinect as a universal remote. I set it up to turn on everything and to turn off everything It works the first time but then when I tell it to turn off and then tell it to turn on a second time there is no video signal. There is sound though. I was worried that something broke either on my tv, xbox, or just the HDMI cable but then it happened to the other two xbox ones s in my house.
To get the video signal back I had to do a power cycle. Just unplug the brick from both ends. Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. So far no more problems. But that scared the cr@p out of me.

Other than that, no problems. It's a little confusing with all the tv features, snapping, multiple apps running but I'm getting used to it. The download from disc times are not that bad (30 min. For BF4). The digital download times suck. I have a 5MBPS connection but it still takes 4-8 hours. Wired connection is quicker but my other consoles are on wifi so they take a lot longer.
I'm hoping for new releases, like Titanfall, they will let us pre-load.

The Xbox One has two power options for boot up. Slow and Fast. Slow takes about two mins, (energy efficient). Fast, power hungry, 13 seconds.

After altering setting in setting. (Change your console name for example. The console will reset, and hang on the Green Xbox One logo for several mins, before doing anything).

This could account for people and issues, have some patience.

I had the green screen after the update for over 5 minutes and thought my system was broken. I then hit the middle dashboard button getting impatient and heard sound through speakers. It still was froze. Then I decided what the hell ill try popping in a game. To my surprise it actually fixed it ! My system has worked perfectly fine since then. I don't know if this is due to a bug of some sort where after it patches it doesn't go to main screen but if your having this issue I would recommend waiting 5-10 minutes on green screen and then putting a game in the system. I might of got lucky but worth a try!

Feel bad for anyone with bricked/defective consoles. Mine was delivered yesterday afternoon. After an initial green screen scare.. it took about 3-4mins to get past that green, it has been smooth sailing. Loving the new ui n its so quiet. Controller is sexy.

This happened to me during the update. I think it has something to do with the controller shutting off during reboot. Try turning your controller back on. Worked for me.

Didn't have any issue with mine BUT in the initial set up the green screen was up for quite a while before anything happened, and by a while, MAYBE a minute and a half. This was probably as the X1 was installing its OS or what not, therefor, someone who is impatient and forces a power down, presses buttons etc may screw something up. If you get one, let the green screen be while it does what it does.
