Hideki Kamiya Confirms Ability to Port Bayonetta to Wii U in Time Before Bayonetta 2

A-list game designer, Hideki Kamiya, took to twitter today respond a fans concern about whether or not Platinum Games would be able to port and release the first entry to the Bayonetta franchise in time before the launch of Bayonetta 2.

Still, Nintendo and Sega have a really good relationship as of now, so Nintendo getting in the equation for Bayo1 on Wii U is not so unthinkable.. Maybe that's why I tought of them in the first place.

It's not Sega's IP. The fact that Nintendo is publishing Bayo 2, and not Sega, shows this.

Sega may or may not own the rights for the first game (this I don't know for sure), but they definitely don't own the IP.

@deafdani - actually SEGA still retains the rights to the IP. They are merely serving as advisors on the game should the need arise.

They do still own it though.

I would love to see that happen because I am purchasing Bayo 2 without a doubt but I haven't played the first one.

This would be a great opportunity for me to familiarize myself with the Bayonetta universe before jumping into the second one.

This is all fine and dandy provided they can meet two requirements.

1. That they actually improve the original in terms of framerates and possibly resolution
2. That they release the first one at a COMPETITIVE price point. If this is going to end up just being a straight port, I don't want to be paying $60 for it.

Don't you have a PS3 or 360? Bayonetta 1 is dirt cheap on those consoles now, I think.

I do have a 360 deafdani, but like the below poster said, if there's enhancements to the game for the Wii U version, I would rather have that. 1080p/60fps original would be ideal.

I really want to see a demo for Bayo2 pop up on the eShop. I'd take exactly the same one that was seen at various events like E3. I want a chance to play it too.

The port would be super easy... the system run xbox code just fine and with nintendo a stones throw way they should be able to ask for sdk tweaks if needed.

at least make an eshop version with a discount once we get the new one.

Platinum want to exclusively develop for WiiU/3DS so hopefully Nintendo basically makes them 2nd party like moonlith and let them go crazy on a FPS or something....

Yeah, Sega still owns Bayonetta IP. Nintendo only secured exclusive publishing rights to Bayonetta 2 by licensing the IP from Sega to financially develop and market the game, but Sega is apparently serving as a consultant on the project. As part of the publishing contract, Sega can't release the game on PlayStation or Xbox consoles.

Anyway, if Hideo Kamiya says his a port of Bayonetta 1 can be done in time before Bayonetta 2's development, then it looks like Bayonetta 2 obviously won't be coming out in the first half of 2014 since the minimal time for porting a game to another platform is 6 months.

To be fair im not sure anyone was expecting bayonetta 2 or X before holiday 2014. I expect dk:tf in jan/feb with smash bros and mario kart shortly after. Maybe Yarn Yoshi midway through the year and a ridiculous plethora of titles from all 3 next gen at christmas.

OT unless Kamiya is trolling, you would think and hope hed spoken to the right people to make this happen already.

I remember kamiya saying he is aiming for the first half of 2014 for Bayonetta 2
