IGN - Mario Party: Island Tour Review

IGN:Mario Party: Island Tour’s single-player campaign is laughably bad, and the ambitious, content-rich multiplayer options and unique game boards are ultimately dragged down by mostly boring minigames and unfortunate system-jerking motion control. A group of friends might only have fleeting good times with this collection.

Why would I want to play Mario Party on a handheld? Just like Smash Bros. they should have kept the franchise on home consoles.

Not to mention the fact they said the handheld version of SSB could hold back the console version.

I mean we've only had one Smash Bros game per gen, why do TWO games together where one can hold the other back. You should make sure the console version is the best you can make it since we only get one per gen.

Do the handheld version a year or two after when people are craving more Smash Bros goodness.

You know they spend way much time on the 3DS, one time they didn't spend enough on it and now you can't seem to get them off it.

NihonjinChick3806d ago

I don't think they wanted to leave the 3DS out. It's extremely popular and has tons of potential customers.

-Foxtrot3806d ago

But the point is they could of done it after Smash Bros Wii U

It's not like they couldn't do it later...

pwnsause_returns3806d ago

its just ninty doing stupid decisions..

yes i know the 3DS is printing money, but the Wii U needs all of the exclusives it could get.

Blastoise3806d ago

Because it makes money. Doesn't matter if it got 1/10 it will probably sell.

It's the same reason they keep making those really bad Pokemon spin-offs

MoveTheGlow3806d ago (Edited 3806d ago )

I don't get it either. The utility of it makes slightly more sense in Japan, where everyone's packed in on the Shinkansen with systems, but if 8-4 Play's anything to go by, the days of portable gaming systems everywhere is dissolving even there - Japan's moving quickly toward iPhones, especially Puzzle and Dragons. With the every-so-often Monster Hunter exception, of course. The money just isn't the same with that franchise, especially on handheld.

It feels like a command from some higher-up that knows it will sell systems... or knew it would in 2005, and thinks it still will... so hardly any talent was thrown at the project.

NihonjinChick3806d ago (Edited 3806d ago )

Nintendo 3DS games still sell in Japan. Games like Luigi's Mansion 2 did incredibly well. The 3DS is also still moving at incredible numbers. So portable gaming systems aren't really dying as much as you claim.

How many Mario games does the world need?

kB03806d ago

we still don't have enough!

NihonjinChick3806d ago

As many as they can make until people stop buying them.

Acquiescence3806d ago

give it a goddamn rest with the Mario games. There's milking an IP, and then there's draining a slab of meat for every last drop of bodily fluid that you can possibly squeeze out of the carcass.

OMNlPOTENT3806d ago

well Nintendo can only win some :D 2/3 must buy games in one day is good for me. Bring a Mario Party to the Wii U and I'll think about it.

Nintendo Selects Range on 3DS Has a Handsome Price Point in Europe

NL:
Unlike Nintendo of America, the European subsidiary of the company - for various legal and retail reasons we won't get into here - doesn't announce firm prices for products. When NoA says a game will be out for $60, those of us in Europe have the alternative of shopping around for the best deals.

So, when major 3DS games were announced for a Nintendo Selects range in Europe, we were curious as to what the pricing would be. Well, it turns out that the cost of these games is pretty decent.
