Tomb Raider Sequel is ‘Next chapter of Lara’s development’

Earlier this year Square Enix launched the critically acclaimed reboot of the Lara Croft story, Tomb Raider. The first chapter in a new series, it’s no surprise that work has already begun on the sequel, though it seems as though development is moving at a swifter pace than some may be expecting.

Can't wait to see Lara Croft on PS4

Aery3803d ago

Me too. I like the "new" Lara and I hope they will add more exploration this time!

SaturdayNightBeaver3803d ago

They should add more enemies and some cover shooting too imo.

Ares84HU3803d ago

According to some reports, you can see her in January because the latest TR game will be released as an ultimate edition or something.

Crazay3803d ago

based on how it looked on 360 I can't wait to see how she looks on Next Gen. That's going to be something truly gorgeous.

AnotherProGamer3802d ago

wish they would make it like the old games with more focus on platforming and puzzle solving than action. also I wish they bring back the supernatural creatures like Dinosaurs and mummys instead on fighting generic human/soliders

Good but I hope they make it seem like a Tomb Raider this time

I really don't know why for an origin story they didn't just go with Lara's actual origin story from the PS1 days...where her plane goes down in the Himalayas which kills her parents and her fiancée and she has to survive the harsh weather conditions, the animal predators, human hunters and explore ancient lost caves deep inside the Himalaya mountains....that would of been a better prequel in my eyes. They need to add health packs pack in the sequel though as a way to heal, the regeneration thing is so over used these days especially when this game was supposed to be about survival

Hopefully they'll change the voice actor for Lara in the next game, her voice was terrible in the first one.

I'm a little worried though after Square Enix made it out like the sales for Tomb Raider were disappointing when they weren't.....I'm scared they are going to add stuff in the sequel which doesn't belong their, something to expand the audience for more money/sales and usually when that happens it's never a good sign.

I don't mind much, Tomb Raider 2013 was like Uncharted on Steroids for me. The combat was just very nice. All the little tools you gain during the game, along with the great level design(rappelling around seas stacks etc).

The difference between Uncharted and TR story wise was TR had a better plot and more serious tone. But the execution, pacing and characters were very poor compared to Uncharted. However even so, the combat and stealth elements along with gameplay mechanics in general were better.

Edit - Thats fine if you want a proper TR game Foxtrot, but for **** sake, judge a game based on it's own merits, not on it's name. A good game is a good game. This is the same as all the people looking at FFXV and saying it's wrong, when in reality it'll probably end up the best FF to date. Be disappointed that it isn't like the old ones. But please be open minded enough not to slate a quality game just because of this.

-Foxtrot3803d ago

That's the problem though it was like Uncharted, not Tomb Raider.

Lara stepping into all those near death experiences/QTE were like what happens to Drake when your playing Uncharted.

I want it to be more like Tomb Raider - a puzzle like game with TPS elements rather then Uncharted - a TPS game with puzzle elements

-Foxtrot3803d ago

A good game is a good game Irish but it's not going to be that good if it's not what the franchise is about

For example

RE5 was a GOOD game

RE5 was a TERRIBLE Resident Evil game

Max Payne 3 was a fantastic game

Max Payne 3 was a pretty lousy Max Payne game compared to the first 2.

I could go on...I want them and other developers to stop changing franchises into things which don't resemble the franchise at all because they may aswell make a new IP

Irishguy953803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

Sorry but did you just forget about re4? A good game is a good game. RE5 was average. 4 was amazing. That's the difference between them. Re4 was never slated for being different. Sure it was called out, however it was one of the best games of it's times. So no one cared.

Again, a good game is a good game. If you want to slate a game because of what it isn't. Instead of what the game fails at, then go ahead. I'll enjoy games regardless of their name. Or should we all ditch FF15 because it's not a turn based game anymore? Or should Super mario 64 have been ditched because it wasn't a side scroller?

Changes to a game are normally called out as something bad, when it goes wrong. And the game is of poor quality. However when it's done right then why care? Tomb Raider 2013 was a fantastic game. Yes, I wish they could make a good old Tomb Raider, but the truth is they didn't. They gave us a different game which was epic on it's own merit.

I agree. I hope Tomb Raider goes back to Tomb Raiding, rather than being an uncharted clone. With that said, congrats for the series getting another game. I thought it would have been grim for those 3 games that didn't make bajillions in sales, just because Square thought they would, thus they should have.

‘Next chapter of Lara’s development’= bigger tits

MadLad3803d ago

Really, really enjoyed the reboot.
One of my favorite games of this year and I am very happy to see it get a sequel.

Double_O_Revan3802d ago

Me 2. Cant wait. Just hope for some more in depth Tombs. The recent ones were cool, just too short.

Unlimax3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

Wai- .. Square Enix How about Rebooting Parasite Eve franchise at the moment , your giving Lara Croft so much attention and i appreciate that but what about Aya Brea , this is one of your biggest Survival Heroes .. She's tough , she's talented , just Like Lara !

Why not give her a chance ?

Anyway , i'm a fan of both characters <3

MadLad3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

Honestly, don't really think Square is in any shape to be taking much risks at the moment.
They are arguing that even their established franchises - good sales across the board - didn't hit sales needed to be profitable (which is insane).
I would rather them get back into a proper state before taking on series that, let's face it, aren't really known titles anymore.
We are talking games going back all the way to the original Playstation. Little brand recognition, outside of the hardcore gamers.
I don't have much love for Square anymore, but I really do appreciate Eidos' brands and would rather not see them go to lesser publishers over Square going under.

Just my two cents.
I just feel something like that is not a smart thing to visit at the moment.

Unlimax3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

I agree , i think its too late for Aya to Return considering how much they lose from marketing their own titles since 2009 .. i love Eidos as much as you love them but sometimes publishers shouldn't put their expectations to one product and then stick on it , they should put their own money on the right product just like what they did with Tomb raider they treats it respectfully , they should think beyond their expectation and they might get what they want if they treats Aya like what they did with Lara .

We are not sure yet .. Aya might return any time :]

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9554d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro54d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot54d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist53d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx54d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188154d ago (Edited 54d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9554d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist54d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp54d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg54d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion54d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
