Lets see if there's really a noticeable difference. I thought the game already looked pretty good.

sigfredod3804d ago

Obiously will look a little better from 900p to 1080p, but the big improvement will be the aliasing, with more pixels the straight line will have less jaggies and will be more crisp since there will be no upscaling

abzdine3804d ago

1080p is the future, i just remember some of the PS3 native 1080p games and how amazing they look.
i remember playing WipEout HD on a 720p TV when the game came out and when i ugraded to 1080p TV the game felt like WipEout HD 2 cause it was just too smooth and felt faster.

dantesparda3804d ago

So is the game 60fps in the MP mode? And how many frames on the SP mode? 30? Just curious

Boody-Bandit3804d ago

This is great news.
I've been waiting for this patch before playing the game. Time to rip the wrapper off and have some fun.

Silly Mammo3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Does anyone know if there is a way to check to see what your game's current update version is? I got a notice about an update, but when I look at the download history is just has 1.01 and 1.02. I think it updated but just wanted to make sure.

PeaSFor3804d ago

the patch is 1.02 and it include the 1080p update.

Silly Mammo3803d ago

@PeaSfor- Thanks. Any reason why its patch 1.03 if its really update 1.02?

There is a difference, and it will be much more noticeable when you play on a 1080P TV.

bjmartynhak3804d ago

More noticeable than I thought it would be!

Ratty3804d ago

That's a good difference. It already looked pretty good all weekend.

kneon3804d ago

I'll have to go see for myself tonight, I wasn't very impressed with the initial graphics quality.

I received the game last night and I wasn't impressed with the graphics. I had been playing Killzone the last few days and ACIV looks only to be a slight improvement from ps3. I think the biggest difference is when a game is running at 60fps, i.e. Killzone multiplayer.

Phene3803d ago

Exactly! I feel ac4 could've been a really good ps3 game. I mean uncharted was pulling off some comparable visuals and it's way older. I think the ocean looks amazing in ac4 and the clothing too, but the characters look waxy and overall it just didn't impress me as much as say battlefield 4.

going from 720p to 1080p is like going from being a blind man to a 20/20 vision sight. 720p makes me disgusted. its god awful, a absolute horrible disgrace.

Corpser3804d ago

Yeah games like TLOU and GTA5 on ps3 are aweful and disgusting to you

AgitatedOcelot3804d ago

They kind of are. Those were amazing games gameplay wise, but the jaggy upscaled mess of sub 720p resolution may die the horrible death it deserves.

SaffronCurse3804d ago

Oh my god..Imagine TLOU at true 1080p??

Moncole3804d ago

Than dont game on consoles.

MasterCornholio3804d ago

He said 720P.

Which console has 720P games?

boing13804d ago

I hope you're not suggesting PC. If you are, than you have no idea why people choose consoles in the first place.

Ratty3804d ago

I think he's being sarcastic guys.

user74029313804d ago

sad people don't get sarcasm

Playstationologist3804d ago

I actually feel this way for 3 reasons:

1. I went from a 720P screen to 1080P
2. shortly after I saw what a gaming PC looks like on that 1080P screen (even with a multiplatform game like fallout NV)
3. both of these things made 720P ps3/360 look terrible :(

But now I have PS4 and I'm living the dream

Ol_G3803d ago (Edited 3803d ago )

That's really a sad dream i'd rather be rich

Kennytaur3804d ago

I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 @ 480p right now. It's awesome.

RobbyGrob3804d ago

It would have been more awesome at 1080p.

Oh would you look at that there is a *noticable* difference ----> http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

And the above is a heavily compressed picture.

My lord and the gaming media has been trying to convince us that isn't a *noticeable* difference. Yh right.....

MasterCornholio3804d ago

Looks like the overall blur vanishes after the patch. And is it just me or is the aliasing better?

MegaMohsi3804d ago

The patch added native 1080 support and better anti aliasing method

Let's challenge n4gamers: Which is 720p and 1080p?

Edit: 900p not 720p. lol

fossilfern3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Left is 1080 and Right is 720.

Edit: Sorry I meant to say the first link is 1080 and the second is 720

waltyftm3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Top 1080p, bottom pic is 900p, look at the ropes, i wonder what 720p looks like.

strigoi8143804d ago

at 720p those ropes will look like band aids

raWfodog3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

To me, the first one https://pbs.twimg.com/media... appears to be a higher resolution than the second https://pbs.twimg.com/media...

Zoom in on the pictures and notice there is more detail in the first picture (i.e. rope on the cannon, words and characters more detailed).

Mr Logic3804d ago

Both are super compressed and s#!++y looking, but the second is 720.

MasterCornholio3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Judging by the sharpness of the text i would say the first one.

But wait there´s something funny about the image. After inspecting it more closely i realize that they are both 1080P images.

WTF

P.S I did this via inspect element in chrome

P.S.S Im guessing that the Xbox One is running at a lower resolution since they didn't even confirm the resolution for the game on that console. I wonder if its 900P or 720P?

raWfodog3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

If they are both originally 1080p then something was clearly done to the second image to make it less crisp than the other. Trickery I tell you.

Mr Logic3804d ago

Not important. I can put a 500x500 image on my computer and take a screenshot. BOOM 1080p

duplissi3804d ago

Its called upscaled. The 900p image is upscaled to 1080 so when the screenshot was taken it was of the upscaled image.

g4me_he4d3804d ago

The first image is 1080p because it has more detail. The second is a bit blurry and not as clear which signifies that it is operating at a resolution lower than the first image.

Kayant3804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

I wonder do you know yourself considering you got it from here --> http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

But am going with what fossilfern said.

MRMagoo1233804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

Pfffffft you can easily tell what is what.

theXtReMe13804d ago (Edited 3804d ago )

There was quite a difference between 720 and 1080 with Call Of Duty Ghosts. Most of the jaggies went away and the picture became clearer, brighter and more colorful. I imagine the same will be true with Assassins Creed.

Journalists that don't want you to believe that there's a difference, obviously have some sort of bias one way or the other. I'm not sure why it would matter so much to them, but obviously they have their reasons.

I think I'm more interested in the new anti-aliasing technique that they are using for the game, to get rid of the jaggies on the ropes and some of the thinner objects in the game. It's amazing that a developer would work past the release date to do something like this, especially those associated with such a huge publisher like Ubisoft. Great stuff.

jessupj3804d ago

Yeah, it is very nice that the developers are allowed to continue to improve the game in the form of a free patch.

But this seems to be happening with a lot of games. Is this just because they're under a very strict time schedule because they need to release in time for the launch of the console, or is something else going on behind the scenes?

It wouldn't matter if it was just one game, but it seems to be a growing trend. Just seems a little off to me. I don't know, maybe it's just MSs and certain other media outlets behaviour in the last few months has caused me to be extra paranoid.

Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag vs Skull and Bones Video Comparison Is an Eye-Opener

Ubisoft has just released Skull and Bones on PC and consoles. And, from the looks of it, the game wasn’t received well by some gamers. Not only that but it appears that Skull and Bones can be worse than Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a game that came out a decade ago.

I wanted a Black Flag sequel so bad. It's still my favorite AC entry. The fact that they ignored everything that we loved about that game in this "spiritual successor" is making me enjoy watching this game crash and burn quite a bit. Either do it right or don't do it at all. (I understand the legal binding they got themselves into with the Singapore government to release this game at all costs)

/grabs popcorn

isarai62d ago

My thing is, if the Singapore govt was forcing you to do it at all cost, why not make what people wanted? How did ubi delay it for 5yrs, then again for 1yr and not just make a similar experience to black flag? How do you spend so much time and make so little?

Chocoburger61d ago

Ubisoft did make a sequel, Assassin's Creed: Rogue. It has a short campaign, and its packed with filler side quests for upgrades, but it's still a decent time.

It released on the same day as Assassin's Creed: Unity, so it was mostly forgotten.

porkChop61d ago

11 years of development. Multiple restarts. All the while people have been saying they don't want some pirate game where you can't even get off your ship. 11 years of people telling Ubisoft all they want is a pirate game that's basically Black Flag without any of the assassin or animus stuff. Yet they still served up this trash that no one wanted, charged $70 for it, and had the balls to call it AAAA.

The Guillemot family honestly needs to be forced out of Ubisoft. They've doubled down on everything players don't like about their games, they want AI to create "rough drafts" of their stories rather than letting their writers do their jobs, and they literally do not give a shit what their playerbase actually wants. 5-6 years ago their stock was worth more than 4x what it's currently worth. The company is dying.

Jin_Sakai61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

What has happened to developers? How can you possible make a worse looking game 11 years later? It’s honestly mind boggling.

darksky61d ago

It's because the older developers were better at it. The new generation pass most of their exams by copying code from around the web so are not nearly as good at understanding what they are developing.

LucasRuinedChildhood61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

No, here's the truth:
https://www.channelnewsasia...
This was made in Singapore and it's the first game of this scale to be made there. Ubisoft would probably cancel it normally since it clearly wasn't shaping up well but they were getting government grants to try build up the industry there.

Do you really think game developers are radically different than just 10 years ago? And this game has been development since Black Flag released.

Using one crap game to trash a whole industry of developers is stupid. It's like saying "Alien Colonial Marines proves that game developers suck now."

yeahokwhatever61d ago

i know this to be at least part of the puzzle from experience.

senorfartcushion60d ago

It's the multiplayer aspect of the world. MP games look worse than single player games, period. Every comparison we keep seeing are for games like Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad and Skull and Bones. They all have multiplayer focusses.

SyntheticForm61d ago

God, I'd love a remake of Black Flag.

Yi-Long61d ago

Enough has been said about this game already. The gaming world shrugged when it was announced so many years ago, and instead of listening to all the criticisms from the community back then, Ubi just sailed on and kept making a game nobody really wanted. What a waste of money and effort.
