Killer Instinct - Xbox One Review | GamesBeat

Killer Instinct arguably picks up the slack this year as one of the most exciting fighting game revivals yet. Not only does it stick to its roots by going all-in on the ridiculous, testosterone-laden ultraviolence that it had in the ’90s, but it also improves on some its basic gameplay mechanics that just didn’t work back in the day.

It definitely is. I had the game to myself for about 20 minutes and was practicing combos. The fighting system is so easy to pick up and play but is deep at the same time.

Nice. Are the controls very responsive? Sometimes when you play a fighting game and you're doing a combo, it's like you have to press the button multiple times to get the timing correct for one hit. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

The game looks fun.

@solid

The controls are VERY responsive. The game instills a lot of confidence in you right from the start about pulling off combos.

It feels very natural and beat em up veterans and newbies will get accustomed to it straight away.

Not much of a KIller Instinct fan (I remember it more for its cabinet art than the actual gameplay), but I'll give this a try

I think you get Jago character for Free...it cant hurt your pockets that bad. If you like it pay $20 for all 8 characters.

I mean $20 with more content to come is great price.

Its a fighting game, GAMEPLAY trumps.

double helix did a fantastic job considering their past record and time constraints it seems that its low scores are from a lack of content which is fair even though in a year from now this will be a thing of the past. For $20 though this is a steal cant wait to pick it up... good job DH and Ms!

This is going to be fun and very nostalgic.

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion141d ago (Edited 141d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,

There isn't going to be any chance of this being played at tournaments unless it appears on all platforms like all fighting games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH145d ago

SF5 didn’t appear on all consoles and was still played at Tournaments. I’ve seen KI tournaments recently so I don’t think your opinion is accurate.

Killer Instinct: Worth Another Look at 10 Years Old

A free-to-play fighting game? This was unheard of at the time, but Killer Instinct has proven it's not only doable, but enjoyable!
